StarTopic NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition |ST| Kant, Nietzsche and Auguste, with a slice of katanas

I have no idea if there’s a gyro aim feature but for now, shaking the controller seems to dodge

Is this some sort of disturbing, existential joke to you?

Oh, I don't really consider Ending Y to be a joke ending personally, since it has some significant story beats to it.

(Ending Y spoiler)

Even if it "ends" the same as every joke ending.

Confessing something here: I actually prefer 30FPS in games like these, even though it takes some time getting used to in the action sequences. I think things looks weightier and more cinematic.
I'm glad glad someone other than me feels this way, I was starting to think I was crazy. 😅
With the exception of a few things (like racing games or other speedy things) I totally agree. Like, I don't want 60fps Zelda, even though Skyward Sword showed it's coming. I'm hoping Drake has a toggle for prioritizing high resolution vs fps so we can choose (even though I'm also not a 4k fan, I just prefer to have a choice).

Always go for joke endings along the way!

Aside from trying to nail the game without auto-dodge this playthrough, I'm seriously considering going for ending Y along the way. We'll see if my sanity is tagging along with me.

(For those unfamiliar with the game, it's an absolute pain ending that involves so much material grinding that it's not funny on any level)
I actually woulda gone for Y if it weren't for the material grinding part. I hate that I just looked it up to see what it was so I could go "that's neat" and know. But there was no way I coulda stuck with that. 😅

These are good attributes for sidequests, really.
Oh yeah, absolutely! I just meant I tend to like to follow the main narrative because sometimes leaving that behind to do sidequests (like Xenoblade 2 and 3 kinda require) can break the story immersion for me. Not that I don't want or appreciate when sidequests have good, meaty lore/worldbuilding bits.

You've got to get ending W. It's the most amazing of them all, I swear!
I am a proud Ending K stan (because that's how I found out about the joke endings and the shock was petrifying (and then hilarious))

Anyone else getting an endless “connecting to network” message when trying to turn on network features?

Reading the Babylon's Fall thread made me think of that interview when Kamiya said about Yoko Taro that "we can't thank him enough", since Automata's success sort of saved the company, after all the money they lost on the Scalebound cancellation.

Awesome, added to OP!

My game has been shipped, no idea if I'll get it tomorrow, I'm actually so excited for this, moreso than Persona 5 lmao.

The impressions from handheld got me really inpatient.

I really wanted to like this game on PS4, I was into the setting/story, but the gameplay loop just felt so simplistic, I got tired of fighting trash mobs. I might give it another chance on Switch, but if I do I think I’ll wait for a deep discount.

Sad to see that it's not in the eShop top 30 over here in Germany!
Yikes, it's not in top 30 in the US either. I hoped that a reasonably priced Platinum game could do a difference...

But love to see indie games dominating the list. Both Monkey Island and Tunic are doing really nice.

It looks really good on my Oled Switch. Really clean looking, sharp, stable so far. The reviews were pretty much on point, I'd say.

It was no. 30 when I checked

I checked just now and it’s still no. 30 on my side

Wait, Canadian and American eShops don't have shared lists? To my surprise.

Alright, after today's binge, I'm reaching the home stretch of Route A.

So ready for this.

Emotions.

Did experience some significant, but brief, dips in docked on one of the final boss battles of Route A.

Big ball outside of the Resistance camp with all of the machines following you and electrocuting waves everywhere.

Wow. I’m taking it slow this time. I think I finished it in like 30 hours last time ignoring a lot of the side quests.

Sometimes I regret not getting an OLED lol. But I just want to save that money for an actual Switch upgrade. Hopefully it comes with an OLED screen.

I earmark my sidequesting and stuff to Route B, Route A just always has me so hooked on the story, so I just go full speed ahead. Took me 8 hours this time.

Got my copy! Not sure if I’ll fire it up this weekend as Xenoblade takes higher precedence

Is the framerate stable on Switch?

Playing on base PS4 and it is very unstable for me. Not a deal breaker by any means though.

Thank God there's an autobattle feature. No way in hell am I doing these bullet hell segments. Played on normal for about ten minutes, ran out of healing items, and decided I'd had enough of that

Okay so now I've ventured a lot further, while it's not perfect, (pop-in is very noticeable in the open world segments, though this was already an issue on PS4 to a lesser degree) this is an eerily good port at times, like in most situations its astonishing how sharp image quality remains, and the framerate holds up remarkably so far even with giant bosses, numerous enemies and projectiles, or a ton of particles fill the screen. Load times are quite reasonable as well.

This is one to rank alongside the likes of Dying Light, Alien Isolation, Dragon Quest 11, Bright Memory Infinite, Sniper Elite 4, and Zombie Army 4 in the Switch ports hall of fame.
There are some compromises, it's physically impossible for there not to be, but its incredibly impressive for the hardware and most importantly feels intact.

Welp, going into this game pretty much blind, and after almost two hours I finished the tutorial and was able to save the game...

...I've already found two endings lmao. W and T.

I didn't have the guts to try the trigger for ending T 😅

Man this really is just NieR Automata on Switch. For some reason it’s not one of the ports I was itching for back when it came out. That was always Persona for me. I played through this game just fine on PS4 and even bought it on Xbox to try the 4K version. The Switch version is going to be my long and thorough playthrough though, at least the first time through.

Hopefully they’ll do Replicant later on. I did just finish a 100% quest playthrough of it on Xbox though, and got Ending E for the first time. My original playthrough of Automata was preceded by Gestalt played over the course of 3 days.

As far as I'm concerned, they may as well use the same display used in the Oled Switch for Drake. To me it's pretty much the perfect sweetspot in terms of sharpness/resolution, colours, size, ...
Hard to imagine there being much more room for improvement, honestly. Maybe in terms of brightness, but other than that, I would not know what to change/boost.

Automata definitely looks crisp on a screen like this. Maybe I'll try it on my OG day 1 Switch as well.

Never change, Yoko Taro, you beautiful, brilliant shitpost of a man

"Is it true that you have a snack in the back of your mask?"

I've experienced two instances of noticeable dips in docked mode, but otherwise I find it stable, both docked and undocked.

Hm. Im currently torn.

More bulethell then expected? Good.

Battle kinda hacknslack and chaotic... Not so good.
Worlds behind stuff like bayonetta.

World: slow traversal, reminds me of SMT5 but the traversal in that game fellt better.

Still really early (dessert area).
Maybe some of those aspects will change.

Fps: feels stable.
Resolution: top
Texture resolution and amount of stuff on screen: eh
But im 100% ok with it, great port.

Edit:
Other points that i thought off, movement can be finiky (geting to the right side of a chest one some stairs...), jumps feel floaty.
Story so faar is rather on the nose (probably meant to be)

I like the characterisation of 2B and 9S.

My huge HLD vibes where correct, felells partially how i would have imagined Solar Ash to be.

Ost is great so far, but the map is rather confusing
