Had to stop posting on Famiboards to play Xenoblade 3 and then I had to stop playing Xenoblade 3 to have dinner with my friends. Some Nintendo fan I am.
Disgusting! To the Famidungeon with you.
Remember how people were convinced that if we got any version of P5 on Switch it would be the original version and not P5R? What was up with that? Anyway, just under 3 months till we have P5R on Switch! I’m more excited for that than Soul Hackers 2 and I already played P5R on PS5.
I only managed to play a few hours of P5 on the PS3 before eventually dropping it due to lack of time and with the death of Sony's handhelds I pretty much had given up on portable Persona. So I'm excited that it is coming to the Switch where I'll finally have a chance to finish it like Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

As for Soul Hackers 2 I have a feeling it'll come to the Switch eventually so I'm content ignoring it in favor of what is on the system now and what will be coming later this year.

Big oof, as someone who grew up in a rural area where deer were a clear and present danger when on the road that's always a terrible experience.

And this is terrible, but now I just have the beatnik rosalina drumming gif in my head

Probably came from the fact that P5 was a cross-gen release while P5R wasn't. And everyone knows you can't port PS4 titles to Switch and have them run acceptably 🙄

I still think SH2 hits Switch within 18 months of launch on the other platforms
I think the team didn't have the resources to do a switch version.

Like starting with one game and ending up with another, huh?
Pretty much!
At first I read this as XC3 and was going to be VERY impressed with your speed. Although that’s not small in 2, either. Mmm Chapter 6-7 is when so much good stuff starts to happen
In addition to, well, playing all day, I've been kinda just beelining the main plot because I want to play XC3. I've also adjusted the difficulty to make it as easy as possible. Still having a blast though.

That seems like a big mistake given how Nintendo has done a very good job of setting up the Switch with one of the best JRPG libraries on the market. But maybe that team wanted to swing for the fences with a multiplatform project after TMS 🤷‍♂️

Enjoy. It's a great watch with some incredible episodes, very ahead of it's time compared to a lot of it's television contemporaries. Once you finish it and if you want more, watch the first 6 Star Trek films. Definitely go with the Directors edition for The Motion Picture (first movie). Also the directors cut for Star Trek II.
Dumb question but these should all be on paramount plus right?

I hope the new Saints Row is good. I really enjoyed my time with the third game. SR4 just went a little too far with the superpowers and everything IMO.

I like the super powers, I’m just upset they took out the Latina voice I’d been using since SR2. Maybe I’ll just make a new character instead.

Even though my partner is all about religious artifacts and stuff, I wouldn't buy any of that sorta stuff. Except this:

That's what I'm thinking. They'd need to customize the game more for switch. I think MS help pay for development as well, no sources on that though.

Started playing Xeno2 a few days ago. Still don’t like the character designs but the game is a ton of fun.

Also, it looks like shit undocked.

I mean, from a business perspective they probably should've developed for Switch first and then ported it everywhere else

But I can understand why they might not have wanted to

I feel like this should be the case for a lot of games but for some baffling reason it rarely is. Like, this should have absolutely been the case for Sonic Colors: Ultimate, for example, given that the original was a Wii exclusive and that Sonic games always sell best on Nintendo systems. Then we’d actually have a good, well-optimized (and likely 60 fps) version of the game on Switch instead of the disappointing down-port that we got.

Whoa whoa whoa wait

I was under the impression that Royal was the same game with a bunch of extra content, meaning the base of it would still essentially be a PS3 game. Is this not the case? Did they overhaul the game for Royal?

I don't follow Persona closely so sorry if this is a "duh" thing to most people 😅

No not really. Still the same core game albeit with some major story branching in the end

Much of the game is the same, but Royal didn't come out on PS3, it was PS4-only. For most things that doesn't make much difference since so much of the game is a PS3 game roughly speaking, but there are definitely a few areas in Royal that seem to be a bit beefier and PS4-only. It's not, like, a massive difference or anything, but it's there.

We would've gotten a good, well-optimized 60fps version for Switch if Sega had actually just ported the game and upped the resolution and framerate, and maybe added HD textures and smoothed out the character models. Like normal.

But instead they farmed it out to an outside dev who used some AI solution to automatically increase the polygon counts of all the background and stage assets as well, which ballooned the hell out of the game and made it run like crap. The only reason it runs okay on XB/PS is because they have the horsepower to brute-force the rendering of the thoroughly unoptimized models.

And then one of Sega's reps went on Twitter talking about how "Switch has a hard time with third party games so maybe Sega should go back to making totally different, Nintendo-only versions like during the Wii days."

And yes, I know I've ranted about this before. It still bothers me. 😅

Woke up and saw Pokimane blessed every fighting game with an upcoming rollback or crossplay patch at EVO thank you queen.

Edit: lmao only seen half the gif before posting so I changed it lol

Indeed, this has been the case for many third-party ports. Switch is powerful enough to run them but not powerful enough to brute force an unoptimized port. I sympathize with the difficulties of developing for multiple platforms but when I look at a game like Bloodstained, that absolutely should have been better on Switch, a home to uncountable indie Metroidvanias. One wouldn't believe that Ritual of the Night and Metroid Dread are on the same console.

Sonic Colors Ultimate felt like a last minute decision honestly. "Oh shit anniversary is ending, we didn't do anything to cash in!" panic then dig up the 3D game with the highest metacritic score to remaster it the cheapest way possible.

Their general reluctance on remastering 3D titles infuriates me. Hundreds of titles are still stuck in 90's and early 2000's and they're doing nothing the fix this.

What sucks about this is Colors deserved a good HD port. One of the best 3D Sonic games and it was stuck on the Wii with no access from a modern system. The execution was just unfortunate.

What's weird is it seems like they're leaning hard on the backwards compatibility of Xbox (and maybe PS too but I dunno if PS3 games are playable on PS4) instead of rereleasing. I watch the Sonic streams pretty regularly and they constantly tout the availability of basically the whole catalog on PS, XB, and PC. They recently even upgraded Generations and Unleashed to run at 60fps on Xbone X and Series S/X and they were very vocal about that. So it's like they look at that availability and think "there's no need to need to rerelease these, they're already playable on modern consoles." And the 60fps upgrades are imo as good a "remaster" as any of those games need.

But then it sucks for Nintendo owners because that backwards-compatible availability is all over PC, Xbox, PS, but not Nintendo. Switch owners need rereleases/remasters to even have the games available at all on our systems.

Slightly related: what I was describing about how the whole series from Xbox all the way through to XBone is all still available through the XB store and playable on the modern systems, that is what I hope hope hope Nintendo is finally starting to set up with their current store and library. If I have to re-buy any of the games I have on Switch on whatever the next or next-next system is, I'm gonna be relatively irritable.

After putting it off out of fear of it consuming my life I've got Fallout 76 installing. I think I've played through Fallout 4 about half a dozen times and have sunk around 500 hours into it.

God, Starfield is going to ruin me.

Hit another one of those goddamn field skill checks in XC2. Please, I just want to play this game at a reasonable pace.

Fortunately I checked and it seems like I just have to go salvaging a bit and I should be good.

I wouldn't really say a ton of Sonic games are readily available on PS4. In terms of native games it has Mania, Forces, Colors Ultimate and Origins, just like Switch. Not sure which of the PS3 games are available on PS Now streaming but that doesn't really count frankly. Mainly it's PC and Xbox that are feasting in old Sonics.

Same. They're making the right noises to shareholders about maintaining their current users and about making the transition to new hardware easy as part of that. I also suspect that's why we're seeing what we see in the subscription: the emulated games being rented rather than sold means Nintendo can't resell them again but they can keep charging for continued access.

Anyone know how it plays, after all the patches? It's one of the two 3D Sonic games I'd like to play (Generations being the other).

If the next Nintendo console isn't backwards compatible it deserves a backlash so bad it makes the Xbox One launch look like child's play.
Yeah, I might just stick with the Switch and get an Xbox bc of Gamepass, if that happens.

Nintendo has implied that it would be, with their focus on a unified account system and services.

I see no reason to believe it won't be, and would happily bet my account on it.

I fully-expect this to be a non-issue moving forward, and will chalk Nintendo's lack of future-proofing to Iwata's vision.

It's great, it even was good before the patches. All the glitches originated from a playthrough on an emulator on PC. That doesn't change the fact that it's a cheap re-release though Switch should have run this at full 60 fps.

I'm back from having been out of town for the weekend, and I didn't bring my Switch and I swear, every second I wasn't preoccupied, I was thinking constantly about Xenoblade. The game has consumed me totally. I kept running through my favroite scenes in my head, thinking and dreaming up new strategies, thinking longingly of coming home and play more sidequests..

I'll see how many hours I'll end up putting into it. I could see it easily being over 120. Aside from digging into optional content like there's no tomorrow, I think this'll be a game where I level up to 99 just because I can. I love it so much.

So I came up with a fantastic idea for my game from Octonauts of all things-

Hidden content is only available for registered users. Sharing it outside of Famiboards is subject to moderation.

I will not call it "leaning hard" until some key Xbox titles like Crazy Taxi 3 or Jet Set Radio Future are made available. Still lackluster job on Sega's front.
True true, yes, I probably wasn't clear but I was talking about the Sonic series, not Sega overall. But I agree more older 3D Sega games should be made available *coughskiesofarcadiacough*

Fingers hella crossed

Nintendo consoles last forever, that's why they are usually not backwards compatible. :p
*looks at his recently-broken Wii U with some of his favorite games on it*

*a single tear rolls down his cheek*

Please God Howard let it play great on the steam deck

So I just had a weird idea

Yall know the story of how Tetsuya Takahashi came up with the idea for Xenoblade 1 when he was daydreaming about two massive Titans duking it out?

Then he said Xenoblade 2 came from him wanting to make a story like the shounen anime/manga he grew up on?

I wonder if after those two were done he went on social media and saw the hateful, adversarial discord between the XB1 fans and XB2 fans and went "aha"

I'd kill for an Xbox handheld with the power of a Series S in the future. I really like my Steam Deck but I'd prefer something a bit more walled garden-ish with the guarantee that all games work.
Same. Just gotta hope it plays decent on it
