Most likely if the Zelda ports are real I’m thinking that they will have Ray Tracing to offer something new graphically rather than just being a direct port of the Wii U version

do you think Nintendo Need to Announce the Upcoming Switch 6 months before the release since it is considered almost a next Gen now or is it enough to Announce the console 2-3 months before the release like what they did with Switch Lite/OLED .

and the last Nintendo Direct showing first party titles was in early February 2022 , did Nintendo do that before , almost 6 months or more between 2 main directs ?

do you think delaying the direct that much " if we can call it a delay" has anything to do with the new switch announcement ? i mean maybe they need to show some 1st party games but they are waiting for the right time to show the new system 1st before showing them ?
Although the illegal Nvidia leaks suggests the performance improvements of the SoC in Nintendo's new hardware are more in line with a successor than a mid-gen refresh, I think that's hard to say with certainty since nobody knows how Nintendo's going to initially market the new hardware.

High volume manufacturing (HVM) of Samsung's 3GAP process node being delayed from End of Year (EoY) 2023 to EoY 2024 is definitely not confidence inducing.

The CPU and GPU might be able to handle that fine. But I don’t think this has sufficient memory bandwidth to do that. Mind you, it’ll have to cut back on settings if it is gonna alternate between docked and portable mode anyway.

The problem with all those games on the PS4 was mostly CPU related, the CPU part shouldn’t be an issue for Drake if going against that system.

And while GPU it should be more than fine, the memory bandwidth is lower. Of course, it’s more efficient than the PS4, but still. Then again, Ampere vs GCN is really hard to compare… bandwidth wise.

In my uneducated, I-am-not-a-game-dev eye, I think for RDR2, it can do 720-900p with 40-60FPS and require more optimization done to it to work at a locked number than what the Steam Deck has which is 0.

But also, look at the Steam deck do it:

Here’s Witcher 3:

AC Unity is worse ish:

AC Origins:

As you can see, if the Steam Deck which is @ PS4 in GPU perf does that. You can probably get an idea what an actual console like Drake would get. Give or take.

AC Unity is one of the worst AAA PC ports ever :p Steam Deck runs most PS4/XBO games at 720p/~40-50fps with balanced visual settings. If the games are GPU limited (which I think most are) then they should be able to hit 60fps on Drake imo if they have a decent porting budget and utilize DLSS.

Nothing new to add other than reiterating a few points

1) I still find it strange they launch this thing with no firm software pipeline. I don't know how this idea keeps creeping up in discussions but they've been burned by this before why would they intentionally do it again. And I don't really buy that this is like the new 3DS. The equivalent should have launched in 2019 and 2020 if we really want to do the 1 to 1 comparison and I'm still not convinced this new management team will behave like the old one.

2) given the time gap and known SoC power jump of 5 to 6x would be expected how they get there with what SM count and clocks are imho details

isn't that game bloated with multiple layers of DRM? Which is why it's so slow.

I think that's due to the paradigm shift in software's relation to hardware. there will be a headliner for Drake, but it'll also be on Switch. we still see this with PS5 and Series and it has yet to put a damper in their sales. Drake exclusives (from nintendo) will come in due time

This theory has come up before, which is absolutely wild to me. To make something abundantly clear in case anyone else is thinking similar things.

* NVN is the name of Nintendo’s graphics API for Switch. It was built by Nvidia for Nintendo. No one else will use it (or a descendent)

* NVN2 was in the Lapsus hack of Nvidia which NV confirmed is legit

* It is much the same as NVN except for extensions for RT and DLSS, and being implemented for new hardware, Drake

* Nintendo cannot abandon NVN without losing software backwards compat with the switch

* Nintendo cannot abandon Nvidia as hardware partner without losing hardware back compat

* Cancelling a long in dev hardware project with a trusted partner because of a hack is obviously very different from cancelling an early days TV adaptation with an untrusted media partner over a leak
Since EVERYONE is here: "Please take what I have said or say without prejudice, and without any certainty".

I will clarify the following points:

The NVN thing, I mentioned it as many abbreviations mean different things for each context, i.e. the fact that a supposed leak will mention that (NVN2), does not indicate that it is real information and that it is linked to a successor.

Actually the situation could be this, the factory is asked to design or sell a processor with certain characteristics, such as technology, size, power consumption, etc; and from there, the purchasing company would be in charge of designing all the SOFTWARE for their products, that includes the APIs. Of course, it would turn to NVIDIA for consultation on how to implement certain parts of the code, in case it gets stuck.

Apparently Tegra X1 will remain dormant, if everything goes the way Nintendo has been working publicly, hopefully we will have a cloud service for compute support, I wouldn't expect a new console, maybe some silent change. (By the way, NVIDIA published information about a learning based technology to decrease power consumption in their chips).

Before the NS Oled, a more powerful version was viable, but since they introduced the NS Oled, not anymore. I explain it, if a major change was given under the same brand, the way to present it was using WHITE color, it is the most accurate choice to eclipse products. So isn't it an indication that the way is another one? There is a detailed public information on scaling technology that Nintendo is registering, it mentions certain NVIDIA technologies that can help the process, but the surprising thing is that they mention textually the Tegra X1 and how to exploit its technology with the support in the cloud.

"could be" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here

I think it would be helpful to be less cryptic.

For the Fans:
  • Zelda Manual: "The Legend of the Picori": Long, long ago, evil spirits descended on the land of Hyrule. Just when it seemed that the world was to be cast into the darkest of shadows, the tiny Picori appeared from the skies and bestowed on a courageous human a shining golden light and a single sword. This bravest of men used his wisdom and courage, his golden light, and his sword to fight off the demons and restore peace to the world.
  • Analyzing: "evil spirits", wouldn't that be another way of saying demons, did you know that the Kanji used to write demon is also used to write the words GHOST and ALIEN. Will this be part of the new encounters?

For Nintendo:
  • "Content Development Device" - will it be that every Legend of Zelda game always do innovative things, improve the integration of teamwork, priceless. CONGRATULATIONS: Is it possible to conclude with that that they only worked on one version of Botw2? (bye-bye again new version of hybrid hardware)
  • Avoid bad localizations, like Demise's(終焉の者) dialogue at the end of Zelda SS, especially for the western version, this had already happened in Zelda OOT (ガノンドロフ). No foul language directed at the protagonist is necessary. Are the latest campaigns being ambiguous?

Personal expectations and advice for BOTW2:
  • Eliminate the use of actions given by pressing the Sticks ("L3/R3"), it turned out that they were constantly triggered, frustrating the experience in the first game.
  • Better cleaning of the RAM memory, to avoid so many BUGS. Maybe a concept like ROM/RAM memory blocks will help to improve loading times. There will already be something like the double RAM, mirror RAM or twin RAM concept.
  • Improve the reward system in the game, it was wrong the reward for completing 100% botw, especially the kolog seeds, so far finding chests has been a self imposed challenge with no satisfying reward, rupees are overkill, one of the most satisfying things was in Zelda WW the trophies.
  • Final version without popping or clipping. A well polished game keeps its magic.
  • New control (hardware), to avoid illegal simulation of the game.
  • To provide us with the first Multilegend with multiple endings and a double character. Without guides, and with secret events that are downloadable, when completing certain missions or finding certain secret locations, this would keep alive the exploration of the map, since nowadays the first thing they do is data mining (clean the code to avoid leaks).

... Essentially more cloud versions and trying to reduce power draw to increase battery life?

Come on. I cant belive that. There is no point in that, except if its a case of "if you have an old X1 switch you get a cloud version, buy a drake for a native version".

What

Since EVERYONE is here: "Please take what I have said or say without prejudice, and without any certainty".
This isn't the issue, much if what you say simply is not a real thing that exists in this world, what you are doing is trying to use literary and linguistic concepts, a linguistically logical sounding story, in place of hardware and software based facts.
I will clarify the following points:

The NVN thing, I mentioned it as many abbreviations mean different things for each context, i.e. the fact that a supposed leak will mention that (NVN2), does not indicate that it is real information and that it is linked to a successor.
Yes, it is real information, that was stolen from Nvidia, and confirmed by Nvidia, to be legitimate.

There is exactly one graphics API that is NVN and it is the NVidia Nintendo API. NVN2 is the second generation of the Nvidia Nintendo graphics API. That's itm end of story, there are no alternative facts, and finding completely unrelated things like breakfast combos that share the letters of the acronym mean nothing.

Factories don't do this, this is entirely backwards. Factories take orders from their customers, and then produce what their customers order, not the other way around.

Apparently Tegra X1 will remain dormant, if everything goes the way Nintendo has been working publicly, hopefully we will have a cloud service for compute support, I wouldn't expect a new console, maybe some silent change.
This is so removed from reality I don't even know where to start trying to figure out what you are talking about.

(By the way, NVIDIA published information about a learning based technology to decrease power consumption in their chips).
Of course they did. They've done hundreds of these, Nvidias use of machine learning is one of their leading edges in the industry, and has seen successful implementation everywhere from using Nvidia gpu's in automobiles, to tensor cores and RTX cores, to the delta color compression in the current switch.

Of course they did, the X1, Maxwell, was the original contemporary machine learning launching point, the foundation of where Nvidia is now, the architecture, that succeeded keppler.

It was NOT designed to be a gaming GPU, but an automotive/service gpu. These things you are finding, are not unknown, like you said they are very public, so it is strange that you treat them like some unknown secret you discovered that changes everything with a paradigm shift. They are not some secret that everyone has overlooked, nor are they specifically for gaming, they were for a range of services from automotive, to medical imaging, retail ai, customer service ai.

What Nvidia made specifically for gaming with the x1, was the shield, and the switch. The specific proprietary graphics library technology Nvidia wrote for the x1, for their partner/customer Nintendo, is NVN. NVN2, is for Drake. This is quite literally the only hard information we have that is indisputable fact.

There is no room for speculation or alternative facts here, it's already locked down.

People who put faith in the cloud think too highly of today's network infrastructure or think what they have in their backyard is just as accessible to everyone else. Reality paints a different picture.

As a sidenote, I'd like to believe the reason the Zelda series was cancelled wasn't due to a leak but was said to be the reason because Netflix is blind to its creative bankruptcy when it comes to adaptations.

NVIDIA is far more a trustworthy asset than Netflix so I doubt Drake would get axed over a hack seeing how Switch and a few of its games continue to make stacks.

The word "NVN2" didn't leak - the entire implementation did. Anyone capable of reading code knows what it is and what it is for, and there are many of them in this thread.

More to the point - iNess just got back from a temporary ban, and I think one of the reasons they're so effective in derailing the thread is because 1) they genuinely believe the stuff they spin and 2) they are genuinely incapable of understanding the discussion we're having.

This makes them unconvincable and absolutely determined. I recommend folks simple don't respond.

....I know this is a speculation thread but this is reading like a badly translated fanfiction.

From non-issues (the L3 was only used for sneak mode and unless your controller is deficient, doesn't "constantly trigger") to non-sequitur (new control/hardware to avoid....I'm gonna guess emulation? The game's coming out on OG Switch, it's getting emulated for sure), that rebutting/discussing each point will just drain my energy, so sure. The aliens from Majora's Mask will be returning in BOTW 2. You heard it here first, folks!

Honestly I think announcing it in late 2022 to have it released in 2023 makes little sense, they will definitely want to maximize sales of the current model during the holiday season... with all the titles coming out it makes sense.

This is what I am getting as well. Although, since I feel this behavior is coming from a place of excitement and want for inclusion and sharing, and not malice or trolling, I will attempt to respond as long as my patience lasts, and attempt to stop responding, before it runs out.

Their determination and singular self conviction may make them unconvincable directly, immediately, but I often find, after a long windy road and many dead ends, after trial and error, if that determination lasts, it often does lead to learning the correct information. Lay down the correct data, odds are (I hope) the mere fact that it is the truth, that said determination, will, eventually, bubble sort it to the top.

Of course, that's a tall ask, I'm not asking it of anyone else. Just where I'm at.

The only way I could see it being announced this year for release next year is if the current models got a decent price cut over Christmas to help drive sales.

I’m not trying to create a discrepancy, I’m just commenting on information based on public data, that Nintendo takes that path, you only know if it announces it, hence a lot of information circulating may not be reliable, under my concept of analysis. It’s just another point of view. Always try to contrast the information.

Not that I disagree with the principle of always trying to weigh and check the information you have on hand, I'm just not sure what you're saying in this case at all. It all seems to be a hell of a stretch based on linguistic quirks in codenames that are then extrapolated to some really far fetched conclusions, but with no actual backing? Also, random Zelda fanfic

$490USD? lol
That's cheap for a consultant.

This guy consults on the Japanese games scene, mostly for Western investors and developers. While he might have some info, he's going to hold interesting data to his chest for private consults. Being an oracle that keeps vague about insider info vs speculation is the key to his business. I wouldn't assume that there is anything here of value to a gamer, and that this seminar is just an attempt to diversify his revenue streams.

Wish I could get people to pay me to talk to them. I probably know various interesting tidbits about all sorts of things.

I'm learning a lot from the responses to iNess's textwall. Cunningham's Law is working overtime on this page. 👍

It wasn’t just a leak but a big brain move by Netflix to pressure Nintendo through the public to agree to the deal; when everything so far had been back room talks. Creative bankruptcy may have played a part but when you could trace the leak to people that were in the room. Why would I even trust to you on the first place.

It was a hack, not a leak, and Nvidia confirmed it was real information. Since NVN2 is refered as an API for a GPU, it's fair to assume it's related to the successor GPU. Lastly, with this mega hack, if there wasn't any reference to any Switch successor, wouldn't that mean it doesn't exist at Nvidia? That'd mean either AMD is making it or it simply hasn't started development, plus there is no reference to any die shrink for Mariko anywhere, so it'd stay as is. I don't see Nintendo implementing ANY cloud compute support due to latency and I doubt the Switch is capable of using it anyway. That would mean:

a) The successor is being made at AMD, to be released in 6 months to 2 years time, as consistent with Nintendo console life cycles.

b) No successor is being worked on by anyone at the time being, thus the Switch will be Nintendo's console for the next 5-6 years, as starting a successor from scratch is a lengthy process.

c) The NVN2 leak, which is associated with the Drake GPU (previously thought to be called Dane, because The Black Knight association), is the successor's GPU and it's specs and API are, or were, near finalized at the time the hack occured.

Do you have any other options to add? Which one do you think is most likely?

WARNING Devil's Advocate approaching WARNING

Just because a die shrunk Mariko or another chip was not in the Nvidia hack doesn't mean it can't exist at Nvidia. The hack was not fully exhaustive of all of their development files.

DEVIL'S ADVOCATE WITHDRAWING

But yeah it's silly at this point to believe NVN2 isn't for their next Nintendo product.

It'd be in the Switch's FW as other revisions were, is't that how we learned about Mariko in the first place?

Hey hey what’s going there ???
I will host a webinar soon .. cost : 600 € and we will have a special guest : the one and only WINKMAN ….
Secondly:
New switch doesn’t exist ?
We will discuss it around some French bakery for free 😉

Designing and/or selling chips, as well as designing software, such as APIs, is 100% Nvidia's responsibility. Factories are 100% responsible for mass production, which has nothing to do with designing and/or selling chips, and designing software.

Any news on this?

There must be someone in the world who has paid that much haha
