News Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase announced for June 28th

Said it before but if Mario + Rabbids releases in (let’s say October), then I doubt we have any more surprises for this year in regards to first party. Nintendo probably views Splatoon 3 (sept), Mario + Rabbids (Oct) and Pokémon (nov) as a rock solid fal line up. Toss Advanced Wars out in December and Nintendo is set (from their point of view).
While I do feel they will have something else they haven't announced yet for this year, what you put is a pretty solid line-up for the rest of the year from a single publisher.

Okay I'm gonna say it.

I finally got to the point where I'm feeling a hardware reveal.

All the talk about the July hardware reveal pattern, plus the fact that we're getting a Partner Direct, leads me to believe there's a chance the first-party stuff could have been held back to show off with the new hardware in July.

Not expecting it, just saying. Maybe.

Well if people are so upset about downgraded ports I think it's time Nintendo breaks that emergency glass and reveals the Switch Pro in the next 24 hours so that devs can finally show the good stuff tomorrow

All I wanted was Scrimblo Bimblo but instead Nintendo is giving us Portie McPortface

That would be amazing. But I refuse to get my hopes up lol

Exactly what I expected. 3rd party ports from 4-6 years ago (with worse framerate for sure) lol. I feel bad for people that actually uses switch as their main console for 3rd party games, which i expect isn't a lot. And is why so many people aren't interested in these 3rd party directs lol
That is so ignorant and condescending. Plenty of people have Switch as their main by choice for a wide variety of reasons.

Okay, I haven't been on any gaming forums in a few days, and when I left I was fully expecting Nintendo to have an E3-style general direct.

To come back to news of only a mini partner direct is.... kinda shocking. Surely this means they're saving things for new hardware? They never just dip on a summer showcase otherwise, right? Are there any rumours that they're still going to do one?

I will say that I'm not too heartbroken as I feel pretty much done with the Switch hardware by now. I'm not gonna be buying too many more games before the next console. XC3 might be the last.

Nate: "The Direct is actually a Partner Showcase now y'all"

Everyone: "Hey look Nate was right!"

Nate: "It'll still be pretty exciting though, some of this stuff could be in a general Direct"

Everyone: "THIS THING IS GONNA SUCK"

I really don't get why some people think BotW2 is gonna be "held for Switch Pro/Successor". Nintendo has held back Zelda twice, on the GC (their second biggest major console flop) and the WiiU (their biggest major console flop). They could have very easily held back Skyward Sword for WiiU, or Majora's Mask for GC, and they didn't. Feels like a whole lotta hopium that BotW 2 will have a day 1 version on stronger hardware then any kind of realistic prediction.

Ready for the disappointment when Nintendo ends the Partner Direct by saying "Look forward to more Partner Directs over the course of the year"

Best case scenario:

Persona 3/4/5
Batman Arkham Collection
Nier Automata
Portal Collection shadowdrop
FF pixel remasters
Tactics Ogre/FF Tactics
Silksong
Crisis Core
An exclusive third-party game

That would be an awesome presentation, if you ask me...
I would literally buy every single one of the games mentioned. That would be REALLY good lol.

The initial post you responded to was me implying it could be here because it's not a Nintendo IP so it's actually this exact discussion lol

Publishing and owning an intellectual property are two very different subjects.
No, I was only clarifying the point about it being a first party game or not, which it is according to Nintendo. They clearly differentiate it from stuff like Live A Live which they only licensed for publishing outside of Japan. You're mixing up IP ownership and game ownership. Nintendo isn't "just" publishing the game.

I don't think anybody should feel bad for other people having different gaming preferences or valuing portability or the option to catch up on older games they missed in a convenient format.

I get it, your post isn't malicious; but it trends into a discourse where anybody who does get excited by the older titles coming into Switch deserves pity or scorn or is a source of bafflement. I've never got around to Nier Automata and Switch is my primary system. Why should that be a problem for another person?
Count on MisterSpo being this level-headed in the face of posts coming across as ... well, not that well articulated, to put it charitably. Cheers!

Expected. I'm mostly curious what's gonna be happening with Fire Emblem then. I would expect a Summer (July or August) Direct at some point because of it. Otherwise there are four possibilities, all of which I would have said are very very unlikely a couple weeks ago:

-The Fire Emblem leaks were real and it is treated as a part of this because it's developed in collaboration with KT and Gust. I'm a huge doubter on this one. Three Houses was treated like an internal first-party title despite all the help KT provided. We didn't even know KT provided that much help until the game released and someone looked through the credits iirc.

-The Fire Emblem leaks were real but they're giving it maximum three months time of marketing between September and December. Idk, that just seems like an extremely short range of time. It's not unprecedented, but I thought they usually like to do four for a release that significant. It would mean they'd give it less than Three Hopes.

-The Fire Emblem leaks were real, but the part about it hitting 2022 was not. I guess this wouldn't be that unusual at all, stuff gets moved around a lot. It would mean that either the FE4 remake was also moved, or they're giving us two mainline games in one year (which they have done before for US release schedules in 2005 with Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance, but that was a long time ago when games had more condensed release schedules and Nintendo also seemed less concerned with games cannibalizing each other).

-Fire Emblem leaks, both from the Discord server and NateDrake, were all wrong. There is no FE. There never was. KT and Gust were busy with other projects. Intelligent Systems put all their resources towards Paper Mario. The screenshots were doctored or taken from some mobile knock-off. Nate got his wires crossed somewhere. This is the most unlikely, the most outlandish of them all. If this were true then the fake screenshots would be legendary. I cannot stress just how unlikely this possibility is. I might as well not list it. The only reason I did is because it is still technically a possibility with the knowledge we have.

Not yet, but yeah I'd probably play it on Deck anyways

Having a Steam Deck does take some of the excitement out of late Switch ports I suppose

It's true, though

Zelda is their best hardware mover at launch. If BotW 2 is not launching with the new hard ware switch 2 will go a very long time with out a new Zelda to push it.

With how long it takes to develop Zelda games its logical to line up with hardware. I would also argue that they should have held back both Majora's mask and Skyward Sword.

I guess Sony fans are the same since many of them don’t like third party only focused State of Plays until this last one.
Playstation doesn't have to deal with the (admittedly thoroughly debunked) stigma that third party games don't sell on their consoles. And if the takeaway from this showcase is a bunch of fans getty grumpy on Twitter demanding more Mario and Zelda, well, doesn't exactly do much to prove those sceptics wrong.

And the recent State of Play was really good and defied expectations, so maybe we should wait and see what Nintendo have planned before raising merry hell. I do think companies are wising up to exactly how these showcases work best (lots of meaty announcements coming thick and fast in one chunk, as opposed to spread thin) so hopefully Nintendo learn from how they have done these showcases previously.

I know I have said it before, but to me, any third party is better on switch, even with a downgrade. My life style has accommodated to the hybrid nature of the console, so every third party port they announce has much greater value to me than the PS/Xbox versions, even if I have all the consoles.

Also, I have always thought that we should be seeing a much greater third party support during 2022/2023 (and it's not that it has been bad until now) due to the development timing after studies checked that porting a game to the switch can be profitable in most cases.

Because all of this, tomorrow's direct has a great value to me, and I'm really excited. I think we can see a lot of good things. Looking forward to it.

Seems like they are probably just as reliable as Samushunter which is to say they aren't.

There a bunch of correct info on his profile but for all I know they could simply be deleting the wrong guesses, that’s why I am asking.

This screams to me Nintendo originally wanted to release new Hardware this year but changed their minds to next year, so they delayed some first party titles originally planned for this year, and put together this throw away presentation due to contractual obligations

there's no new First party game to be revealed for this year, I think that's the safest assumption at this point

Also, I know not many people care about third parties, and yes, God of War sad sad games are not usually what we like for many of us here, but remember, we’ve gotten some really great their party offerings that pretty much either become Nintendo mainstays like SMT or Monster Hunter or for some reason, become defacto first party titles like Bayonetta or Mario x Rabbids through a strong exclusive partnership.

I think Nintendo fans will buy third party games, but not many will be excited about late downports.

What fans want are high quality on time games made with the Switch in mind. Like Monster Hunter Rise.
And Monster Hunter Rise was revealed for the first time in a mini partner showcase. So they have had those kind of calibre of announcements before and there may be some here too.

People said the same about June, so it's not even worth expecting that anymore lol.
The June Direct has always been tied to E3. There was no E3 June 2020 so we didn't get one then either. The September Direct is tied to the Tokyo Game Show. TGS is happening this year so no reason for the September Direct to be cancelled. If E3 is back next year June General is back on for sure.

I actually didn't realize that. But you're arguing something entirely different from what I was proposing initially. It's not a first party developed game so it isn't automatically exempt from a Partner's Direct.

Back in 2020 pretty much everyone agreed that Partner Directs came to be because of contractual obligations with third parties that couldn't go unfulfilled despite Nintendo either not having enough to show themselves. What are the odds 50% of the presentation was going to be BotW 2 like in 2018 with Ultimate and plans changed now that it got pushed back?

Count me as one of those surprised to see the Partner branding return in 2022. I have to imagine DQ Treasures and Tactics Ogre will be here. Hopefully Persona as well.
