News Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase announced for June 28th

So are we thinking a general early September? Or earlier?

I suppose some games don't need one - Bayo 3 release date could be a Twitter drop (I think that will be the October game) what else are we expecting MP remaster? New N64 games? New tracks for MK? I wonder if all of these could be Twitter drops and then we get a general in early September with BOTW2 blowout.

I really believe that BotW 2 is tied to newer hardware. Until they can show off the new hardware we will not see anything more than a tease from the game.

Just my theory on the weird marketing this game is having.
I completely agree, and COVID has likely thrown their intended scheduling out of whack, but the end result - speaking as someone for whom BotW was finally the next step for Zelda after OoT and who considers it a top 5 GOAT - is trying at times :p . My son was 3 when I played BotW. He'll be 9 in "Spring 2023".

"yes mistertheman that's how time works" i know breh but 6 years is a loooong time to wait for the sequel to the game that got me back into the medium

Wouldn't this annoy some partners who are expecting to attract the eyeballs of folks tuning in for the first party stuff? For what purpose would they want to split up 3rd and 1st party Directs?

There's zero chance we have to wait until September for any further first-party news.
I made a big and deliberately obnoxious stink about this last week (sorry about that), but I thoroughly agree. Even if there's no need for first-party news right now, they simply don't wait that long without announcing things for fall. I think we'll have a very clear picture of their strategy by the end of July

Find it super weird and almost offensive to the developers that people treat Mario+Rabbids as if it wasn't a SRPG of the year contender on basically every site. It was a high quality, beautiful game with very good gameplay.
Ubisoft.
if they’re gonna waste time on the TERF game (Hogwarts), I’m def waiting for a summary/individual trailers and skipping it, I don’t wanna see that bullshit
Thankfully Sony has exclusive marketing rights for it so we will not see it.

Of course. Tomorrow Nintendo is going to announce they’re finally going third-party, then reveal Pikmin 4, F-Zero, and StarTropics 3. Nintendo are wily ones; always one step ahead of us.

I also think its as easy as new stuff not being ready to show. Given that we had such a big gameplay blow out for breath of the wild the summer before it launched though, does have me worried that maybe they arent super confident in that spring 2023 time slot
That's definitely possible, few of their other projects could be behind. BOTW2 despite it already being behind schedule thanks to the pandemic it's following the same long dev cycle with one good delay (Spring 2023) so they'll crank it up when they're ready.

I would hope to see more Ace Attorney announcements here from Capcom: AA4-6 Collection, Investigations Collection, or even a new game.

Are you thinking new hardware? I do buy the fact that Botw 2 might be linked to new hardware.

Disappointed Nintendo doesn't have any updates on their own projects but there's way too much third party potential on Switch that I'm excited for this.
I hope we get a strong Square Enix showing, some more info on DQ3, Live a Live, Front Mission (I'm still amazed this is getting a remake)
Finally announce Tactics Ogre Rebirth. SRPG fans be eating lately!

I can see Hollow Knight Silksong trailer, but doubt it'll be much more that what we've already seen at the Microsoft showcase.
I can also see Klonoa getting another trailer/ spotlight with a demo available after the show (since it's up in Japan/ Asia)
I wonder if Capcom has anything else to show? Megaman? Ace Attorney? Seems unlikely.

I don't see what the big deal is whether or not this is livestreamed; all Directs are pre-recorded anyway so who cares.
I guess the thought is people just skip to the end and spoil themselves in the “one more thing” type announcement. But I agree, that only is a problem for people that are impatient (or go looking on Twitter right around that time).

I'm leaning a couple different ways. We could just get Twitter updates for a few games here and there the next couple of months, and then a September Direct with all the bells and whistles. Or......

Nintendo has a big July presentation with first party games and the Switch Pro.

In the end, only Nate correctly "predicted" the date.
Damn I remember when we would talk about what Nate said a month ago. People would be like “why we keep only talk about Nate. Let’s talk about Apple presentation to use for when a direct can happen”

Naw. I’ll stick to the most direct person with the best info. I don’t care to extrapolate what Apple or Samsung are doing to predict when Nintendo will do something.

Honestly, if the overwhelming Direct turns out to be ports of classic games with a few new ones/updates about already announced stuff, I'd be cool with that. I'm a simple person.

Also seems like it would’ve been easy to throw in just like 2-3 first party things and have a general, no?
Given the 40 to 50 minute length for generals in the last few years, yeah, it'd be pretty easy to bump into that range without trying too hard:

  • Bayonetta 3 trailer and release date
  • Advance Wars trailer and release date
  • Metroid Prime HD announcement for 2022
  • 1-2 Switch sequel announcement
  • Mario Kart 8 Wave 2 DLC
  • N64 NSO next wave of titles
  • New eShop title(s) from Nintendo
  • new Fire Emblem for 2023

You don't even need to go particularly big on first party stuff to get there.

I don't know if they'd want to announce something new this close to Live A Live but I'd welcome a look at whatever Asano has coming up next
Live A Live itself was announced right before Triangle Strategy released, right? I'm not sure they really view these things in that way, anymore than any other "AA" Square Enix JRPG interferes with other "AA" Square Enix JRPGs.

There's zero chance we have to wait until September for any further first-party news. Not trying to be pessimistic, but we already saw Nintendo use trailer drops to date Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. They could go down the same route for Bayonetta 3 and Advance Wars. A 1-2 Switch sequel is potentially the kind of thing that gets announced outside a Direct anyway. NSO updates and Kart DLC can also easily be trailer drops.

Equally, you could end up with a regular Mini by the middle of July which collects that news and announces something like Prime HD. It's just difficult to fathom why they brought back such a reviled branding. Maybe they want to promote third party games more regularly (they do get paid to feature them in Directs) but they don't want to have to include their first-party stuff. Maybe they're experimenting with how they can drive engagement. Again, I'm interested to see what Grubb says about this.

I agree that there could be a Mini before September, but i doubt there will be any more presentations before Xenoblade 3 is out

Unless we know pretty much what Nintendo have planned for the rest of this year. Q3 is covered with Xenoblade 3 and Splatoon 3, andn they have Pokemon for November. If Mario + Rabbids 2 and Bayonetta 3 are coming this year they can slot into either October or December. That's a big game per month.

Maybe this Partner is to fill in the gaps for 2022, then in September we see what they've got planned for early 2023 and beyond.

I think the movie got delayed to 2023 so unlikely we'll see a trailer now.

We could see actual partner games, like co-developed games using Nintendo's IP, that we don't know about yet and or Switch exclusives that are going to be announced.

I can't wait for the unironic complainiong that Mother 3 wasn't announced or we didn't see any of Nintendo's major IPs. You know someone is going to type that post.
It was delayed to april 2023. I think there will be at least a teaser this year. Maybe even at the Game Awards.

Nintendo announcing Metroid Prime 1 HD Remaster in September for a December release isn't farfetched at all really.

Wouldn't this annoy some partners who are expecting to attract the eyeballs of folks tuning in for the first party stuff? For what purpose would they want to split up 3rd and 1st party Directs?
Yeah, despite me liking the single game directs they've done a few times now (and being indifferent on pure Partner ones, honestly) the marketing power of a Direct is: you come because you're a doofus who's still actively anticipating BotW2, and you end up seeing a lot of games you otherwise wouldn't have.

repeat this for september 2019, februari 2020, march 2020, februari 2021, september 2021 & februari 2022 :')

Mario and Rabbids news tomorrow, or even a Twitter drop on Wednesday with trailer/release date would be a great way to end this month for me personally

It is funny how a few months ago we were all thinking just how stacked Nintendo’s June Direct could be……

I am hoping this is good but the last few Partner’s they did just did not interest me. Hoping for some cool new stuff but I have a feeling the big reveal at this will be Persona.

So I guess no reveal of big third party exclusives given the format.
Even if we only have already announced games or new ports/remasters announcements, it could be a solid show, since a lot of exciting stuff could be there (please at least persona 5, Dragon Quest Treasures and FF pixel remasters)

I’m a fan of Monster Hunter Rise, and am going to buy Sunbreak day 1. I do not need to see any more information on it, please Nintendo

If you combined them all together, it would have been a good show. I'm hoping that is what we have here considering the length.

Triangle Strategy was announced a week or two before Bravely Default 2 released, if I remember rightly.
Both fair and accurate points

Hopefully we do see the next Asano title here then, at this point it's basically a pattern

Games are games I don't care under what name they get revealed, so I'm hyped!!
Hope there's gonna be some good stuff announced!

And even if that's not the case for me personally, I've been eating good jrpg games this year anyways so I'll live. XD

Jokes apart, my thoughts

- Nintendo having the chance to present a "decent" (with decent I mean: something partners involved will be satisfied with, being some sort of paid promotion as we know) event during the "E3 time", based ONLY on third parties surely signs the change of "support pace" compared to the Wii U + (last days of) 3DS era

- The actual contents will be telling about what to expect about the second/last part of the Switch lifecycle from both JP and Western third parties, now that the "nextgen" is not "new" anymore; a good chunck of games could make us expecting the support last until the end of its life cycle despite a possible bigger gap in terms of raw power (compared to PS4/One), maybe even due to nextgen stock issues (that MAYBE are slowing down a little also the "only-nextgen" projects by third parties)

- I'm curious to see the actual contents in terms of games with sales potential, especially to understand if third parties have moved on from "old gen ports", at least into the "actual gen ports", if not into the "new projects" territory

- I was under the impression (posted here on Famiboard) of a Nintendo/Switch more focused on first party and less on third party compared to 2022/21, and I was wondering if this was due to a partial answer to my previous bullet points here (third parties moved away into the pure next-gen territory); many posted a good amount of announced/rumored third party games (listed below); in my eyes, these still would be slightly disappointing projects, if not sustained at least by another couple of big games coming (at least ALSO) to Switch in the next 18 months

Persona 5
Goldeneye 007 (leak xbox)
Geshin impact
Dragon Quest 10 offline (pal)
Dragon Quest III 2DHD
DAI
Tattics ogre (leak)
Batman Arkham Trilogy (rumor)
Timesplitters Trilogy (Nvidia leak)
Alan Wake
ace attorney 7 (leak capcom)
megaman rush (leak capcom)
Metal slug tactics (maybe is more "indie world"?)
Sonic Frontier
FF VII CC
Silksong
Portal collection
LOTR: Gollum
Hogwarts Legacy
Marvel's Midnight Suns
XCOM Chimera Squad (rumor)
Outer Wilds
NMS

Thoughts?

Bizarre marketing decision but whatever.

25 minutes of third parties is beefy. Which makes the decision even weirder when if they added stuff that we already largely know is coming, like trailers for Splatoon 3, Live A Live, the next Mario Kart DLC, the next wave of NSO retro games, Advance Wars, and like one Spring 2023 reveal you’d have had an E3 general.

Bizarre.

It's really weird to me how people talk about a second half with Xenoblade, Splatoon, and Pokemon as though it's nothing... Like, those are three fairly high profile releases for Switch. The gaps in August, October and December can easily be filled by any cool third party stuff and 2022's overall lineup will be really impressive.

That's why, even if I wanted more 1st party news, I sorta get why they're not going out of their way to advertise past 2022 rn for their main lineup

Why do they need to? If things aren't ready things aren't ready. I don't get why this NEEDS to be a general.
Because general Directs are both better received and they receive more views/attention. If you throw in some crumbs for the first party fans it gets all those third party games more eyeballs on them.

I'm going to reiterate what I said in the speculation thread about this being a Partner Showcase. The fact that they brought it back after reverting to regular Directs in 2021 indicates to me that something is going on that we are not privy to. Nintendo must be aware that the branding is pretty toxic. So the few explanations I can come up with, from most to least copium:
  1. There's something cooking that they will show in early-to-mid July. The most plausible reason why they would do this is new hardware during their usual spot which they want to show off with with certain enhanced games.
  2. They don't have any unannounced 2022 software that they deem "big enough" to justify a regular June Direct reveal so whatever is unannounced for the rest of the year is going to be Twitter drops.
  3. They ran into development troubles again and everything is holding up new reveals.

I have a feeling there is more to the Live A Live remake then what we currently see. Maybe they'll pull a Chrono Trigger DS and include an additional scenario.

Hoping for some cool indies or something, can’t really think of any 3rd party AAA stuff that I’d care to play, especially after SGF

if they’re gonna waste time on the TERF game (Hogwarts), I’m def waiting for a summary/individual trailers and skipping it, I don’t wanna see that bullshit

hoping I can ignore the inevitable hype thread for it too :/
There was a discussion thread on that game when the State of Play happened. Most people who participated do not want a thread about it made, me included. I can’t imagine one would be allowed.

Nope, Alanah said it would be on the 29th

Nate is to my knowledge the only person who said the 28th
He also talked about how it could be the 29th in some time zones several times. I don’t think that can be held against the other people if it could’ve easily went the other way.

Nintendo doesn’t really need to do a summer showcase. We’re pretty much guaranteed to get a Splatoon direct, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we get a Zelda direct that shows off BotW2 and WWHD + TPHD.

It’s clear that Nintendo’s 2022 is mostly complete at this point. There’s room for maybe 1-2 more things, but otherwise the only purpose a summer direct would serve is to get s head start on 2023 stuff, which can be saved for September.
