The emotional roller coaster ride on this thread is giving me anxiety
I'm right now putting drops of flower essence (Bach) under my tongue for anxiety

It could be as simple as them wanting to show a lot of Xenoblade 3 but having no space for it in a regular Direct. I don't think there has to be some deeper meaning here.
Also zero pressure to hold an event early in the month without E3; no real reason to share advertising space with other publishers who stuck to that early June window; late June means Nintendo can market stuff after Strikers and Three Hopes have launched.

There are multiple simple reasons for a late June Direct in plain view.

thinking about what Grubb said, and I wonder if it's somehow right. maybe we will have a Mini next week focused on third party and already released games update, then the week after a "Metroid Direct/ shadowdrop" with MP1 remake trailer and deep dive, then the week after the same thing with Bayonetta 3, Pokémon, Splatoon 3 etc.

this is of course a gigantic stretch, but may be a way to focus on 2022 schedule through the summer until September, where finally Nintendo should be able to focus on 2023 and provide updates for major releases like Botw2 and announce brand new games like FE18.

we shall wait and see.

iirc late in the month isn't ideal for news visibility but don't quote me on that

I don't get how some think that in General Direct there would be 20 minutes of Xeno 3, seems like you never watched a Direct before since not a since game had a 20 minute spotlight there imao.

If it's a Nintendo Direct I doubt the timing of the month matters. People want it to happen and will tune in - Nintendo are one of the biggest publishers in the industry, even if part of the industry likes to pretend that's not the case.

I think it's important right now not to take anything for granted, but equally that's why I find this panic and pessimism about a Partner Showcase that people have convinced themselves of so absolutely bizarre. It was a means of advertising Nintendo dropped as soon as they could, and it was a format which generated less and less engagement each time Nintendo released one. It very clearly wasn't their preferred method of marketing and why on earth they'd return to it when it resulted in declining engagement I don't know (and let's not go with "lol unpredictable whimsical Nintendo", folks - they're a ruthless multi-billion dollar corporation, not a lemonade stand).

Part of the panic and guessing right now (not here, but online by folks like Andy Robinson) seems motivated by this assumption that Nintendo must do something weird and strange and off-putting and that somehow a Xenoblade Direct confirms that. Right now things are continuing as if Nintendo are clearing the decks for bigger news: we've had Strikers demo and release, we've had Three Hopes demo and release with the review embargo lifting the day before a Xenoblade Direct; before all this we had a Pokemon trailer; even the last confirmed N64 release is dated. "Bigger news" from Nintendo in the Switch era is almost always a general presentation, and there is almost always one in June.

For me, a regular Direct is likeliest, with a Mini being possible. I don't see them returning to Partner Showcases.

DK, Donkey Kong, the thrilla gorilla himself, has apparently "gone gold," and EPD Tokyo is sitting on it as we speak
Doesn't "gone gold" normally mean that the game has been completed and put onto discs/cartridges for retail release? Lmao

I love how he phrased this. No matter the outcome he can say they are still sitting on it and are waiting for the right launch window.

Yeah, I know that's really not the same. Smash is a bigger system seller, not sure how 20 minutes of Xeno3 in a Direct would turned out.
There's no chance of a game like Xenoblade having that much time in a direct, I was just saying 20 minutes for a single game in a direct has happened before.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 got a dedicated Direct and somehow the next new entry in the series also getting a dedicated Direct leads to speculative tweets that Nintendo must be doing something unusual and then pages of meltdown here is just not a healthy chain of events.

People in this very thread predicted Xenoblade 3 getting a Direct. It's not some wacky or chaotic curveball. Part of this feels like Western journalists still recoiling at Nintendo putting focus on Xenoblade as a franchise. "A Xenoblade Direct? So strange. A partner showcase must be coming."

I am a Donkey Kong stan and I wanna believe but Zippo is just an absolute clown not worthy of the attention he seeks so I am torn.

My heart wants to believe but my head says nah

I just want to say that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 looks ridiculously awesome. A lot of people were so pissed off at this game because Nintendo announced a Direct for it instead of a mainline Direct but man this game looks like something truly special. Of course I do hope we get a mainline Direct next week. Right into my veins! lol.

I absolutely believe there is a DK game in development at EPD Tokyo, there was just too much smoke around it. But as for Zippo? Yeah, am with you on this. Also am not sure, but not many insiders have a news about EPD in general, yes sometimes there are few things here and there but absolutely not as specific as "it has gone gold".

ngl I think they will reveal EPD Tokyos next game either way so it really doesn't matter what they will show. They always deliver.

So I'm seeing Zippo get brought up again and I thought I'd mention this.

General disclaimer: If anything ever comes up with Zippo, I wouldn't trust it. The TL;DR from what I recall is that they often don't have actual sources and often "pretend" the information they do have that's legit, when reality is they likely took it as random rumors and passed it off as legit sources. The information that is accurate is often taken from people who did have sources and tried to pass it off as their own (or they just got lucky with a rumor).

Do not trust ANYTHING that Zippo says.

DK going gold without being announced yet is the most outlandish rumor they've ever started. No way DK is coming out before September. It's bullshit.
