While I won't assume it'll even hit Switch, let alone be announced at this Direct, I'm thinking about the Final Fantasy IX remake more often. Something along the lines of Trials of Mana that DOES come to Switch would probably make me cry tbh. Deep down FFIX is still my all-time favorite game.
I really want the Final Fantasy 9 remake announcement. It’s probably my favorite final Fantasy ever. I just don’t know when it’ll be announced. We got 16 and remake 2 coming.

It's very easy to predict what this direct will be like
A normal direct, not a mini because there's too much to talk about
Not a lot of brand new titles because they're waiting until very close to the direct to announce it, and already have so much to show
Most likely a Zelda port (WWHD or TPHD) to fill the yearly Zelda slot
The often leaked Donkey Kong probably showing up
Updates for Mario Party/Switch Sports/Mario Strikers
Probably some Wii U or 3DS port like Woolly World or Tomodachi Life

take out zelda(doesn't exist) and put in FE and remove the wii U port for some random game that hasn't leaked and I'd agree

True, but I don't think anyone reasonable expects a FFIX remake to be on the level of those two games. At most something like Trials of Mana but with a slightly bigger budget. Definitely the kind of thing that wouldn't eat into either of those games.

If I see anyone else post "concern" or "fear" of a Mini/Partner... I'll will such a presentation into existence for next week.
Sounds like a fun time. Reactions would absolutely be worth the (Ostensibly) lack of announcements.

(Even though this is never happening)

I'm not going to be salty about it when there's no WWHD + TPHD but when it does show up I'd like an apology from everyone who is 100% certain those ports don't exist. :p

Jeff Grubb just said on his podcast that he also still expects more Nintendo stuff next week but thinks it can go either of two ways: Either they don't want to take up too much time with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in their big Direct next week or they're doing Xenoblade Chronicles 3 now and having a smaller, Partner showcase styled Direct next week.
Not too much different from what we're thinking in that case!

Cannot stand people who keep saying partner showcase

Is this sarcasm?

Me neither, more or less. Nothing personal against the person who posted, but just a general confusion at why this idea remains when we’re out of the context of a global pandemic and uncertain development schedules.

Every direct since 2021 has passed 2 million views. The last partner showcase still hasn't hit 500k. Partner Showcases aren't just hated among enthusiasts, they don't get games in front of as many eyes as normal directs. I'd be absolutely, positively blown away if somehow Nintendo decided it was a good idea to do another one.

Also, as far as a treehouse goes, I honestly think they could announce a direct with a treehouse the day before. They immediately followed the September 2019 direct with a Sakurai Presents that was announced during the direct.

I mean besides the former being pretty obvious, this is a very nothing statement and it's disingenuous to put so much worth on his statements about what is coming from Nintendo in the next week or so because he has admitted that he doesn't know for sure and that a lot of what he is saying is speculation.

I don't understand why a detailed look at a game coming out in July means anything for games Nintendo wants to release in the five months of the year after that, which currently only has 2 dated games.

Here is the deal. (Yes, an actual serious post from me, for once.)

Partner Showcases are dead. Like previous posts have stated, they were a means of fulfilling third-party “Direct”-revealed obligations. The world was crazy with the beginning of the COVID era, and Nintendo (quite understandably) was not functioning as they normally had.

They probably didn’t have (a) the games ready to reveal thanks to the pandemic, or even (b) access to the studio and set where Directs are filmed. Hence the Mini in March 2020, which only had a narrator and no set.

Partner Showcases performed terribly. While there were a couple gems scattered about, they were few and far between. Fans became less and less excited for each installment, to the point where the initial July Partner Showcase received 3.2M views on YouTube and the final October installment received 425K. I can even testify that I, Switchum, never even watched the October one, and maybe not even the September installment because I plain and simply didn’t care. And I’m the biggest Direct hype beast that I know (in real life of course)!

Why would Nintendo bring back this infamous series, only to get dwindling views, poor reception, and whilst there is no brand-new global emergency as per 2020?

Partner Showcases are dead. The Mini series (non-Partner) I could certainly see returning, but the “Partner Directs” will never come back- not unless there is a new global crisis affecting development and filming.

I mean stop posting what Jeff says then? People keep posting his stuff intentionally to use as inside information. When it comes to Nintendo he’s not the best. If it’s speculation then say it’s speculation. Because when it comes to Jeff people keep posting stuff he says in podcasts as if it’s inside info, yet it’s taken out of context or just speculation

I feel like mini directs are just gone entirely.
Over the course of the switch's life Nintendo has been hiring a lot more people and spending more on outsourcing production (to companies like bamco). There's always going to be too much software to talk about to justify a mini direct. It's getting hard for them to fit all the games in their 3 big directs a year as is, which is why they're now doing a Xenoblade specific direct and will probably do a Splatoon and Zelda specific direct later this year.

Yep. Nintendo had to do it. Guess what every company was in discombobulation. They can’t coordinate a big direct when every company has so many issues and nobody was on the same wavelength. Nintendo saw who they could gather up third party wise and put out small directs at a time. During this time Nintendo is figuring out themselves and their own games.

I mean we do know Prime HD remaster exists and that they were working on a cancelled IP, that's already more than what we know about EPD 9 ever
I think i meant in general, epd 9 is not a team in the sense retro is.

Prme hd was indeed a leak, but the cancelled ip was quite an obvious conclusion imo

Mr. Aonuma said:
“Actually, Nintendo has been telling me to bring back an old IP. But then, they’re also telling me to make more Zelda games.

I can’t really share much; I’m not sure I’m allowed to say anything. But I really like the idea of a game where I can punch someone into a manhole. That’s all I’ll say.”
WOAH

I feel like at this point a good number of folks are convinced that much of the Direct will be announced and leaked titles (FE, Zelda ports). But I'm not sure that has ever been the case. Apart from the Direct and Switch Presentation that were fully leaked, and excluding Nintendo leaking their own products, I think most every General Direct has had several unannounced and not-leaked titles (across first and third party). Basing this on about 9 years of Directs, but just from memory so maybe I'm looking back with rose-colored glasses.

Jeff knows plenty. He also makes it very clear when he’s saying something he knows vs something he’s speculating on.
Sorry I don’t agree with Nintendo. Definitely not to the extent as others. And this isn’t some attack on him. It’s the people who keep posting what he says when all he’s doing is speculating.

I'd say NLG is even more secretive than Retro (and probably the most secretive of all Nintendo studios), they really are the Canadian EPD. Do we even have had any important leak from them?

Nate didnt say micro PANIC!!!!

nobody would care about xenoblade if it was benoblade
I would.

I don't think a Treehouse stream is a no go either. I mean, we got one for the last not-E3 in 2021. We even got some sort of lockdown Treehouse in summer 2020 or do I memory fail me? I recall it wasn't a very good one, with a bunch of people speaking through Skype or something like that.

And a Wednesday Direct without something for Thursday and Friday wouldn't make much sense. According to the holy patterns it should rather be a Direct alone at the end of the week then, or not?

Yeap, I agree. If the direct is happening Wednesday then a treehouse later that day an Thursday makes sense to me.

While it is unprecedented for there to not be significant new reveals, it's also unprecedented to have so many already announced titles. And on top of that we have a few big leaked games, particularly Donkey Kong, Fire Emblem, WWHD and Metroid Prime HD. With those 4 games and the existing lineup, it's just hard to find much space for any other big games.
