Rumour Alanah Pearce - Nintendo Direct date is June 29th (corroborated by NateDrake)

Alanah Pearce, former game journalist and current game writer, hosted a live-stream today to share her thoughts on the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. After she was done talking about that event, she made quick mention of other events coming up. This is when Alanah noted that a Nintendo Direct is coming on June 29th, 2022.

This mention caught some people in her Twitch chat off guard, and they asked for clarification. Pearce went so far as to double-check her calendar to reconfirm the June 29th date. She also noted that she didn’t get this information from Nintendo themselves, but with Alanah’s many years spent in the game industry on both the press/dev sides, it’s easy to guess that an inside source shared it with her.

Just to be clear, Alanah doesn’t seem to present this information as speculation. She comes off extremely confident in this Nintendo Direct happening, and I’d say she’s quite a trustworthy source.

Well shit, that's pretty straightforward. Lol

I'm surprised they would do it then considering Sunbreak would already be out in Japan, especially if they do treehouse

On the first day of work after my vacation lol sorry everyone, i should have taken my vacation sooner so we wouldn't have to wait so long

Y’all know me and how I don’t like pro speculation

But why is this date giving new hardware reveal vibes

Like somethings up. It’s so odd

I don't doubt it, but it seems kind of bizarre. Would think it'd be a week or two earlier.
The one good thing about E3 was that it largely "forced" Nintendo to comply with having a presentation ready by that time frame.

That much being removed just meant we'd be at their mercy, because they have no reason to adhere to the old style of dating things this year.

Yeah that fits, I was expecting the last week of June since Nate deconfirmed this week

But yeah wow that's a very Direct leak

Can’t for for them to release a pro for a year later everyone start asking for a Pro 2!

Why the end of the month. Why is Nintendo like this.

They see everyone else doing their stuff now and go “oh, that’s neat. Let’s make these fuckers wait a few more weeks”

I like how she simply came out and said the date. Now we can move onto the fun part of Direct speculation, the games.

clearly they're waiting for Three Hopes to come out so they can shamelessly advertise their next Fire Emblem game, like Echoes of the Binding Blade or something. Look, it's not a complete Direct experience if I don't disappoint myself for a Fire Emblem announcement, please understand.

But that's fine, honestly. If the Direct is the 29th, it'd be nice if they communicated that there'll be a direct late this month before fans go in meltdown mode, but what you can you do? And there's sense in keeping everything away from the bulk of announcements happening this week.

It's late and rather unexpected especially without E3 dating their summer direct in my opinion.

In this scenario you would expect a summer direct to be at the end of May/beginning of June (so earlier) even as that would be the most logically spaced out timeframe from either the February or the September Direct. If it is on the 29th, then that's very close to the usual September Direct which we all assume will happen.

Maybe the fall Direct this year is later than usual, though, which would make this timeslot make more sense.

It's also rather unusual how it is in the same week as their shareholders meeting - I said it in another thread already, but I don't remember this ever happening.

Unironically though, I wouldn't be surprised if that was at least part of the reason a Direct is so late. We've already heard rumors that a new mainline FE is all but finished so it would make sense to announce it at a Direct soon. So putting this Direct after the release of Three Hopes means you're not awkwardly announcing a mainline title right before a spinoff launches

Yeah. Like I said they knew everyone was going around this time so they probably wanted to separate themselves from the rest and not share media coverage

Yeah that feels most right to me at this point. We are down to five dates left (I ruled out the 30th due to Persona port news) and putting it out Fire Emblem week, alongside so many other releases, would have just screwed those games over. Monster Hunter will be fine.

Seems most likely we get a direct announcement either next Wednesday, 6/22, for a week in advance with Treehouse, or Tuesday the 28th w/ no Treehouse. There could be a weird two-day lead on Monday, 6/27 where Treehouse could still be pre-announced, but I'm really expecting one of the former two dates.

I think we get the 21 or 22 announcement with Treehouse for 6/29

that's a long wait but I'm just glad to have a date

Guess I should figure out what to play between now and AITSF2's release
