It's crazy that so many of you know individual EPD teams, who works on them, and what they have made in the past. People keep asking about what EPD 8's next title could be and I'm like...

8 would be the easiest to remember if people just called them Tokyo

I feel roughly the same. For a long time, I was like "uuuuh, the people who make Mario and Zelda" but then I found out that there's multiple divisions.

How many Mario games have you beaten? I've beaten Yoshi's Island, Super Mario 64, Super Mario World, and Yoshi's Story.
Going by the official Japanese list, all of them but one - the single player mode of Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS. Which is mainline in Japan but not in America, for some reason? But the US list doesn't feature Lost Levels or Mario 35 either, so whatever. Out of the games I've beaten, the only ones I have not seen to 100% completion are Lost Levels (never played A-D, since I was playing on the original FDS version I gotta beat the game eight times to reach them) and Super Mario Run (haven't finished Remix 30, haven't gotten all the coin sets in every main level).

There is a thread to help you out.

you know it’s a wedding when your glasses break and Facebook decides you’re too sus for a name change

Yeah, I'll just stick with "Zelda team", "Mario team", "Sports shit team", etc.

these days that might be effective, but production groups have historically been a bit more varied. EPD 10, for example, is descended from an EAD group that led NSMB, Pikmin 3, and Big Brain Academy. EPD 5 produces both Animal Crossing and Splatoon, and EPD 9 is descended from both Mario Kart and Nintendogs

also, EPD 4 isn't so much Sports shit as it is random shit: Miitopia, 1-2 Switch, Labo, Ring Fit, Switch Sports

EPD 4 is such an odd team. 1-2 Switch sort of went the odd way. But Labo <3

Simple. While that team is makin Animal Crossing team and while they are making Splatoon, they are the Splatoon team. EPD 4 can be called Sports shit and Mii shit team.

Jesus christ, I knew Yuji Naka had become insufferable in modern times, but he’s been a total asshole since day one. Baffles the mind how someone like that can stay in power for so long…. well i don’t really expect any better from the world nowadays but it’s still awful

but that's still inaccurate lol

and the teams aren't actually teams, either. there's only marginal overlap between splatoon and animal crossing

production groups are just producers and a handful of planners, with some artists on reserve

the rest comes from the ocean of staff that makes up epd

that's why a lot of epd games from different groups look similar

as an in-practice example, I have reason to suspect that switch sports development precedes game builder garage: the in-game "cafe buttons" was established in 2020

I finally wanna see the 1-2 Switch sequel for reals. It's the most bizarre and curious thing coming out of Nintendo that we know of.
Shinya Takahashi: Okay, the next game will be our last announcement, please take a look. Proceed to show 1-2 Switch sequel. This is what I want. It will be even better than a Mario cast reveal.

Right? There has to be something unique about it to warrant a sequel, even if insiders have said not to expect much.

Didn’t someone give a hint of what it’s focus would be a couple months back?

I'm sticking with Mario team, Zelda, Sports shit team, etc. because it's easier to remember. I don't need specific project/team code numbers as if I was a Nintendo employee filling out my weekly timesheet. For the average consumer, it's just simpler to say the people that make the Zelda games and the people that work on the Splatoon games.

Or easier yet, we can just say Miyamoto makes every Nintendo game by himself.

Dread is the only Metroid game where the power suit design is my favourite suit.
Isn't the EPD team that made Galaxy (EPD Tokyo?) the same ones that made Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat?
Yes, though at the time it was still EAD (Entertainment, Analysis and Development), prior to the 2015/16 (?) merger with SPD, which is how EPD came about.

Nintendo should brand the different EPD divisions with something other than a number. Give them names like uhh… Amusement Vision. Or Smilebit. Or uhhh… Mario Team.

This is a Sega joke

this is a good mindset to have, but don't pay attention to producers because this

the people that work on the Splatoon games.

isn't the same as the people who work on Animal Crossing

They should put Mario Teaches Typing on NSO but it only unlocks if you have a USB keyboard connected to your console

The individual EPD teams should be called the Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas, Green Monkeys, Orange Iguanas, Purple Parrots, and the Silver Snakes.

Agreed. People like to complicate.

We should add the subsidiaries to this shit. Next Level is EPD11, NDCube is EPD12, Monolith is EPD13, Retro is EPD14
