Thanks to all who have posted in the first week of my ST. Pretty shocked we got to 40 pages in a week.
Should get quite a bit of chatter this week too! And in general, May usually builds up as it goes and we move toward E3 time. Pokemon Presents may be happening late in the month as well.

Wow, this looks awesome lol. Doesn't even have to be Silent Hill, just a new AAA horror game from a Japanese dev that looks like this and is set in an abandoned station could be amazing if done right. What little footage this video provides definitely gave me the creeps!
I don't want a horror game to look quite that real. I'm not trying to literally give myself a heart attack you know.

Maybe a Luigi's Mansion 5: Train of Terror or something.

It’s rather amusing to think I’ve skipped the infamous titles for a lot of Nintendo games and not because of poor reception from fans. Just because I saw gameplay and trailers, myself just going “I don’t think I will like this”.

-Sticker Star
-Other M
-Wii released Skyward Sword (seems to be more fondly remember nowadays)
-Shadow Dragon DS (played it years later on Wii U after reading impressions and whatnot)
-Star Fox Zero
-Federation Force.

And some of these titles are arguably pretty decent to good. Just something that didn’t look appealing to me and probably to a lot of other fans of these series. Which might be a bigger blunder if you can get the hardcore fans on your side first.

Late to the "positive hot takes" discussion due to irl stuff but here's my contribution; the original Starfox on the SNES is an amazing and underappreciated game.

Epic boss fights, a spectacular soundtrack, strong atmosphere, high stakes, and immense replay value.

I still play through it every so often, and just as Ocarina of Time feels like the Lord of the Rings of gaming, Starfox feels like gaming's equivalent of Star Wars: A New Hope; a sweeping space opera with a wonderful sense of adventure.

I’ve never played the SNES games.

I’ve got a whole week of covid isolation so maybe when I’m done with Mario Golf I’ll give it a go.

Positive hot take: Twilight Princess actually has a gorgeous aesthetic that becomes lost in the discussion between BotW and Wind Waker. I just love the rustic authenticity of it. Seeing it in HD, whether on Dolphin or TPHD, really elevates it. I adore the hazy bloom that plays in when there's beige colors, which gives me SotC vibes.

I'm not sure when Reggie thought Other M would be a "defining, killer moment" but I remember it being quite a commonly held belief when the game was first revealed. It looked like a massive leap forward for non-Prime Metroid and also a return to some more traditional designs. It wasn't until we started digging deeper into it and actually got to play it that its controversial nature became more apparent. But the first showing was pretty positive.

I'm not a fan of the bloom (it made it painful to play the game on the Wii because I couldn't see anything, I'm glad they got rid of it on the HD version) but I agree in the art.

It's very quirky and unique, maybe a bit too much for a game that's supposed to be mass appealing, but it's really good. It's kind of OoT/MM's artstyle but fully realized. A lot of models from those games were already super weird, and would be even weirder if they had more polygons and had more details. TP is just that natural progression.

I dislike a lot of the character designs.

I never finished Twilight Princess back on the Wii. I played up to the Water Temple, not sure how far into the game that is. I have it on Wii U and I really need to start it one of these days.

I also really need to go back and start A Link Between Worlds again. Never finished that either.

It just really reminds me of PT, without ripping off PT like we saw a lot of games did.

Will we ever see this?

We know that this was patented back in 2014, but Nintendo recently let it go public, so they might have shelved the idea.

Maybe they're working on something else.

Nice find, I didn't find it anywhere, it looks like they probably abandoded the idea which is kinda shame.

How many Mario games have you beaten? I've beaten Yoshi's Island, Super Mario 64, Super Mario World, and Yoshi's Story.
Strictly mainline Mario platformers, all of them 100%. Including Yoshi, DK, Wario etc I’m only missing a few.

I wish I could motivate myself to just own one video game console. I waste so much money on shit I never play by owning all three.

The only “mainline” Mario games I haven’t beaten are Super Mario Bros 2 (USA) and The Lost Levels. If I were to list them out, I guess it would go like this

  • Super Mario Bros
  • Super Mario Bros 3
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Mario Land
  • Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins
  • Super Mario 64
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2
  • New Super Mario Bros
  • New Super Mario Bros Wii
  • New Super Mario Bros 2
  • New Super Mario Bros U
  • Super Mario 3D Land
  • Super Mario 3D World (and Bowser’s Fury)
  • Super Mario Odyssey
Then of course there’s tons of Yoshi games, Wario games, DK games, sports games, Mario Karts and rereleases I’ve beaten. Mario is one of my all-time favorite franchises.

Other M's live action commercial blew my mind at the time.

Better storytelling than the game itself hey oooohhhh

I just want to imagine how angry sakamoto was that people didnt enjoy his "masterpiece"

Sakamoto did kinda rage quit from Metroid for a good awhile, IIRC there was an interview back in 2013 where he said he wasn't really interested in returning to the series. This obviously changed in 2015 when he started working on Samus Returns with MercurySteam.

EDIT: Ah, here's the interview:

Japanese 2
American 2
Mario 3
Mario World
Mario Land 2
Mario 64
Mario Galaxy

Mario Galaxy 2
NSMB U
Mario 3D World

Bowser's Fury

And if we're including Yoshi games:
Yoshi's Island

Yoshi's Woolly World
Yoshi's Crafted World

Not really a rage quit. Sakamoto frequently takes breaks from the Metroid series. He's into making more weirder type of games. Metroid is his baby of course but he doesn't love it well above his other creations. He likes to work on other things and return to the series when he's ready. To say that he raged quit after Other M neglects the history of the series while also undermining his work as a creator.

Quoted from over in the Kirby Event - Happy Sunday fron my son enjoying some Kirby!

What Kirby Event you ask? You mean haven’t participated yet? There are some quick to complete challenges that enter you for a chance to win digital copies of Kirby / HALs eshop titles, so

Admittedly "rage quit" is a little much (I wasn't entirely serious when I said that lol), but it does kinda feel like the reception towards Other M did kinda scare him off from working on the series for awhile.

Other M's failure gave Sakomoto the presence of mind to make a sequel to Tomodachi Collection and, thus, we got Tomodachi Life.

This is canon now.
