Gosh, interesting from a technical side to see this popping up, but really iffy because it's stolen information...

I'm still on the Bloomberg/Nate 2022-2023 train. Bloomberg obviously had some wires crossed with SwOLED and SwitchFourK but otherwise they're just about as reputable as it gets.

Very curious how the NVN version of DLSS will work. I recall a Digital Foundry video on the subject which implied that 4k60 with DLSS on the Switch SOC's wattage isn't a given at all. Also I don't expect much in the way of ray tracing.
As mentioned in the DF video that’s with the same DLSS used on desktops, the version on Switch 4k might have a mode optimized around 4k 60 with lower quality upscaling.
 
My prediction is for first party games DLSS will bring the resolution to the max on docked and handheld modes with the best possible framerate. For third party games DLSS probably will be used to free up as much CPU and RAM as possible to have the game running on the system. "Miracle ports" might not be native even with DLSS.

"Most" is a strong word here, the Switch has like 7000 games. And DLSS requires major modifications to the game and in some cases the engine. It's absolutely not a given for most games.

I'd guess less than 1% of existing games will be patched to add DLSS.
I think certain games will get patches (Mario Kart 8 DX and Animal Crossing, for example) but then some games, where maybe it was too much work to implement, will just get sequels (which would explain why Splatoon 3 is coming despite, as of this moment, not having anything REALLY setting it apart from 2)

Yeah most games that are patched would probably implement DLSS, unless there's some major engine restriction preventing it.

But a family can just buy an OLED for $350 or and OG for $299, its not as if those consoles are going away.

There won't be any issues with selling a $400/$450 Switch as long as it has the "oomph" that people want.

If it was a Pro/revision, of course.

But if this is the successor, the Switch 2, I think it gets harder. Because BC aside, for a successor we expect to have new games that take advantage of the new hardware minus the obligatory early cross gen titles IMO

I’m hoping Monolith will patch all three Xenoblade titles (I suspect the X remaster will be cross-gen anyhow) though.
 
Wonder if devs will be able to expose DLSS quality levels (i.e. Quality, Balanced, Performance, etc.) in their games like on PCs, and similarly to what PS/Xbox titles are doing with Resolution/Performance modes.

DF's analysis was smart. They took the 5W Orin chip, tripled it's specs (to get to roughly the Switch's power draw) and did some tests to see what DLSS could do at that level of Tensor performance. However, there were hints that Nvidia was developing a 15W Orin chip that was much more efficient than just overclocking the 5W, by about double. It's still a pretty tight budget, though.

Going off of what we know and Furukawa’s recent comments it sounds like the distinction between Pro and successor is irrelevant.
Whenever Nintendo’s next hardware launches, I at least expect all the major evergreen first-party titles to receive enhancement patches (Splatoon 2 already isn’t considered evergreen anymore with Splatoon 3 on the way).

The Xenoblade games should be easy since they already have TAA. Hopefully they bump up the draw distance too.
 
I can see Mario Kart 8 getting a patch because of that DLC running into late 2023. Other than that I'm not expecting too much. Maybe BotW because the Zelda folks seem to be quite tech savvy.

The dream would be Bowser's Fury at a locked 60fps though =P .

And Doom + Eternal at 60fps on Switch! I'd do another back-to-back handheld Nightmare playthrough of those if that happens.
 
I'll be very sad if I've been waiting all this time for a pro model and when it releases the Xenoblade games aren't even enhanced.

I would be surprised if anything old was enhanced for DLSS, I would be OK with just backwards compatibility.

Yep. I'd expect at least Mario Kart 8DX, BoTW 2, Splatoon 3, and XC3 to have patches, but I wouldn't be surprised if most Nintendo software released this year get a patch.

Very cool. Though also somewhat expected insofar as if it didn't have that, it'd be a huge letdown.

But I'm so over Switch Pro/2 stuff at this point. I don't doubt a successor is in the pipeline, but I can't get excited about it anymore until I actually see it.

The info is cool to know that this is real. Doesn’t matter to me when it’s released. Just good to know a Nintendo DLSS device exist. Would be idiots not to use the tech in the next device. It’s a godsend for Nintendo.

Telling BOTW "Speed up the CPU while loading" or telling MK8 "Treat these new track files just like you treat the old track files" are simpler things than doing an indeterminate amount of change to modify the graphics rendering code from nearly a decade ago to support DLSS. I think any updates to old old stuff is more likely to be brute force and relatively half-assed, saving the full benefits for new games like eventual MK9.
 
Mochi did say those games from 11 studios are coming this year but avoided mentioning "Pro". I'm guessing they're still Pro exclusive ports. If I had to guess what they are:

Red Dead Redemption 2
Resident Evil 2&3 (with RE4 on the way)
Tales of Arise
Dying Light 2
Space Marine II
Desperados 3
Destroy All Humans 2

Hmmm I can't think anything else. Ubisoft might bring a PS4 era game but I don't count on it. EA most likely will be absent and I doubt square even bother having exclusives for this Pro version. They wouldn't abandon regular Switch that fast.

I wonder if the rumored specs could allow Smash Ultimate to run at 120 FPS.

Render it at a lower native res, DLSS to 1080p, at 120 FPS. Would be incredible.

I don't think Nintendo will bother with anything beyond 60fps. Smash already running at 1080p 60fps on the current Switch should help it get a simple boost to 4K; probably iron out the few performance issues under certain conditions.

I'm more curious to see if they, say, get four-player splitscreen in Mario Kart 8 running at 60fps. I'd hope HAL get to patch Kirby Star Allies too; 60fps is already possible via overclocking (or lowering the resolution) on the current model, so Drake should be hitting that easily.

They also added Labo VR updates to BOTW and Odyssey. And others.

And anyway the fact that most of Nintendo's games run on the same general engine should very much help them implement DLSS, even if the only change they make is DLSS to 4k/native for most of their games.
 
I know for certain this will be me in the holiday if it comes to pass. 4K and better framerates will revitalize the console for me - and I can’t be alone here.
Same. I’d replay a lot of the games I already have if they get some graphics update. I’d be really happy if Breath of the Wild could be played in 1080p with a stable 30fps. Anything better than that would be great.

I’m so used to playing games with lower specs, that a simple graphics and performance boost for older games would be a big deal for me.

So in conclusion a new Switch (PRO/2) is coming sooner than later?
This news doesn't really change anything about when we should expect the hardware (you're going to get multiple different takes on that); just further confirmation that Nintendo have in-fact been working on their next major hardware (wow!) and specific previously rumored detailed about that hardware (DLSS, RT cores, Ampere architecture).
 
I fully believe Nintendo will pour their heart and soul into a 4K remaster of Ocarina of Time with ray tracing on the succ. They're totally gonna max out the hardware with it. Can't wait.
