Quoting this because I don't want it to get lost on the bottom of the page. And I agree, we should have some guidelines in place for such cases.Seconding this. I think it's best to avoid this and I think other general guidelines, or a general ethos, would be helpful:
- don't try and force people to share your perspective; whether it's for or against a source, it's ultimately up to individual users.
- if someone asks "is X a reliable source", answer patiently and in good faith. Don't jump at people for asking questions.
- disbelieve sources if you want, but don't waste time disparaging people.
Personally, even with information from people I trust, I treat it as something which isn't concrete information, but which is potentially true and worth considering.
Back on Era we did have a couple of lines on this matter in the OP of a couple of our Direct Speculation Threads that I were coincidentally written by me, but I don't recall the wording and my account does no longer exist.
