If they add half as much stuff as welcome amiibo did, this will be great.

Actually just add Puzzle League and we're fine.

Watching that 2016 Direct was a gasp and a half. At the time I remember having no time for all the time they were giving the 3DS. I gave in and got the SNES (/snɛz/) one, which tugged at my heart and purse strings more than the actual game library if I'm honest. So I hope we don't get somehing as odd (and problematic). I played some Wild World via the Wii U VC, but remain largely oblivious to what New Horizons comparitively lacks. The "home designer" aspect is something I'd enjoy, but I'm pretty much going in without anxiety over getting things I felt should have been day one.

PUZZLE LEAGUE!!!

As a funny anecdote, I didn’t know there was a Puzzle League mode on New Leaf. One day my gf was playing NL and said she was doing a mayor’s challengue or something with a puzzle game but was stuck on a stage. I said let me see it and recognized Puzzle Challenge (I played the Gameboy game back then in my childhood), and at that moment the muscle memory went right to my fingers and I proceeded to trash those animals with my chains and combos. My gf couldn’t believe that I “learned to play” the game in less than 1 minute so I showed her my Pokemon Puzzle Challenge cart that I still own.

Good times. Good times. 😆

Deepest lore? October 15th is Brewster's birthday

I hope this adds some meaningful content and not just something that’s kinda neat to check once and then never again.

The base game has nothing to do once you’ve got a full town of villagers, paid off all the bridges/ramps, and terraformed to your liking, other than collect the seasonal stuff.
Like talking to villagers is just a waste of time, they say the same things every day, and it’s the same few events (ghost etc) on repeat.

forgot welcome amiibo let you sell your town back and restart with a bunch of bells. would be a nice feature tbh ...

welcome amiibo was available the day of the announcement.

also can i just say what a fever dream that welcome amiibo direct was... directs now a days so produce and clean, this really reminded me they used to be like funny home made videos not that long ago. i kinda miss it.

I hope we get some new villagers.
Make Katie a villager!

More than anything I just want some quality of life changes. Faster crafting, shorter text if it’s repeat dialogue (or skippable text), no daily intro text unless there’s news, that sort of thing. It would also be amazing if they streamlined multiplayer somehow, because visiting other islands is such a chore and so disruptive to the host. But I’m not holding my breath for that…

So we finally have a date and time. Looking at the runtime of 20 minutes it's looking to be a chonky one. What are you hoping/do you expect to see?

I'd love to see a return (or variation) of Tortimor Island! It gave something fun to do when friends visited your town in New Leaf!
And minor things like being able to learn new/seasonal recipes much much easier than once every (what feels like) a million years shooting down a balloon 😂

I'm trying not to wish too hard for things like an improved DIY experience and shopping/collection mechanics (even though they're at the very top of my wishlist) but I feel like we can maybe expect enhanced villager dialogue in this update. Thematically, it fits well with the return of The Roost and the speculated addition of new villagers.

I think October is my favourite month. I've never been into Halloween IRL, but the Halloween set is probably the best one in terms of a wide array of things for decorating the island. And the fact that you need to create pumpkin patch to grow the materials gives importance to checking in daily. Seeing the Halloween decoration grow at any increasing rate at the big day nears is really cool.

I openly admit that I haven’t touched Animal Crossing since late last year between random things and my gaming backlog, but I hope this Direct has enough content to make me want to finally pull up all my weeds and beg my residents not to bail on me.

My gf and i were so dissapointed at the content roll out so we hope alot of content is announced, and while brewster is nice i hope there is more to it.

I see people say this all the time, but it's frankly not true. I've had Wendy on my island since day one and progressed our relationship by giving her stuff etc and the more I've played the game, the more I've noticed different dialogue being added to her repertoire, as well as other villagers.

Well, I may have accidentally my Island during the transition to the SWOLED. At the mercy of my microSD card backup/Island Reset by Nintendo now.

Hoping for some real content boost here, though. I put somewhere between 60 and 80 hours in and I’d like to get back into it.

I think the issue is you have to talk to them multiple times throughout the day to get that kind of dialogue.

So if there isn’t content there to keep to engaged for longer play sessions to bump into villagers multiple times how would you ever see it?

I'm expecting big things from this. I love(d) AC and I want to continue loving it. They better have alot in store considering this year pretty much didn't add anything all too new. Either way, I'd just love to pick the game back up again.

Isabelle, if you insist on starting each day with an announcement, at least announce which visitor has been spotted in town please.

The Roost and Puzzle League would absolutely get me back for a little while. I miss Kapp'n too.

Also most villagers react in quite a dispiriting way if you speak to them too much in a day. Lots of "oh, it's you again..." and "um haven't we spoken already?" It feels like the game saying "you're done here for the day."

I got a lot of my villagers to the point where they gave me their framed picture, so I'm assuming I had their relationship 'levelled up' or whatever, and they still spent most of their time telling me how much they love their toilet, or how they just did laps around the island. Sometimes my two lazies would both spend the day giving me the same dialogue, with their catchphrases subbed in. Sometimes my peppy would literally just say "hi, are you here to hang out with me."

I love NH and got a lot of value out of it - if I never touch it again I wouldn't be mad, it was a great time! - but it would have been good if there had been subsets of personalities and a system to nudge you away from having repeat subsets, so even though you'd have two of the same personality, they'd be focused on different topics. I never want to hear about Maglev Mike again only for someone to then give me a basic wooden table recipe after I button-mashed through that dreck for the hundredth time.

I'd be happy with just brewster but i hope there's something in this update that will have me coming back a few times a week

What do you think of this? Im not duping the article content in case someone doesn’t want to be spoiled (if it turns out to be true): https://gamerant.com/animal-crossing-new-horizons-update-leak/

I think I’ve read before in era? that this leaker is not an actual insider, but I’m not sure.

See the top comments.

Samushunter at best, repackages existing announcements and/or datamines they read about on either Reddit or Resetera and pretends they're leaking information.

They're not.

No matter what is announced I predict some will be surprised but a majority will say this is it? This is what you made with a year's time? Completely ignoring Covid's impact. I'll probably be satisfied with it but who knows.

People forget these are free updates to a game which can be played for 500 hours before seeing it all and finishing decorating your island. If they never updated it, it would still be a great game and a great experience. They have expanded the concept in ways that were impossible before.

I say this as a New Leaf player and a Brewster and Tortimer Island minigames fan.

I really wish the inland could be expanded and to have an additional level to build, or hanging bridges

I had a little glimpse at Animal Crossing this morning to check my island had transferred onto the OLED, and I was reminded of what a gorgeous game it is.

I'm really hoping for a meaty update (or set of updates) which takes me back to the game. Had a blast with it last year.

Just remembered this is this week! Don’t really know what I’m expecting/hoping for (other than Brewster, but that’s pretty much confirmed) - I just hope there’s more stuff to do, and perhaps most importantly that it is time consuming…I don’t want just a couple of additions that I can quickly plough through.

Honestly, I don't even know what I want in the update. I mostly want small things, more space in the storage (again), Zelda items, a way to clean up my flowers faster, probably some things I'm forgetting at the moment. Anything big that I can think of is something like bugs/fish/sea creatures/art to collect all year long but I have no clue what they could add here that isn't already there.

Playing today I was reminded how nice it would be to have true “golden” tools… ones that never break!

Didn't the original Animal Crossing have the option to play classic arcade games? I'd love that to return, as well as leaderboards included.

You know what, speaking of flowers, let Leif start selling hybrid flower seeds. Screw this breeding nonsense. Takes far too long.
I didn't find it too rough for most of them, but I completely gave up on blue roses once again. Maybe next time.
