After a WILD 2021 (95 games + more beaten), the beginning of this year is calm on my side. Tbh i'm a bit annoyed these days and don't want to do anything except going outside and play
Pikmin Bloom. But here are the 3 games i've beaten so far since January 1st:
- Rabbids Go Home (Wii) - 6/10 : the first game of the year and tbh I don't even know why I wanted to do it but it was cool. Too repetitive but the idea and the game itself are funny. Wouldn't play it again: one time was enough. But it's a cool little game.
- Monument Valley 2 (Android) - 7/10 : this one was really cool! I did the first Monument Valley at the very end of last year and I really liked it. Was afraid MV2 would be the exact same kind of game without any surprise. And tbh it was the case in the first half, but the second one was so cool with new great ideas that i wanted to be used a bit more. But the whole game was really cool. Also did the little free expansion.
- Zombi(U) (PC) - 6/10 : Well... This one is... I don't know what to say about it. I used to LOVE ZombiU, back in the days I played it right After getting the WiiU. It was almost 10 years ago and I changed since, being more critical over the years. Zombi(U) isn't a bad game. There are cool ideas and the ambiance is really strong. But there are also so many bad things. It's not a very good FPS, story is pointless and became so bad especially in the last quarter of the game. I still like the game for some reasons but, hey, that was not as good as i remembered. Won't play it anymore I guess but again : it's not a BAD game and to be honest I had fun most of my playtime. It's just super frustrating that they didn't do better with that one. Could have been a great game I think.
Next one I plan to do is
No One Lives Under The Lighthouse. Don't know when tho
4. No One Lives Under The Lighthouse (PC) - 6/10
Not really sure what happened in that game, but I can say that it was so fascinating yet frustrating. NOLUTH is a walking sim, kinda, with few interactions: you're on an island and you are the new lighthouse keeper. Your mission: keep the lighthouse (obviously). But there are so many weird things that happens on that strange island, and as I implied, I don't know if I understood even 10% of the game. That's why it was fascinating AND frustrating. Anyway, wasn't perfect, but I liked some things like gameplay's simplicity and coherency. A bit deceived, though.
5.
Pikmin 2 (Wii) - 10/10
Was incredible. Always loved Pikmin 2, but also always prefered the first one (which is my favorite game of all time). I wanted to do a new playthough on 2, and I think I liked it even more than I did for the past +15 years. That was so cool and Pikmin deserves way more love.
6.
Mysteries Under Lake Ophelia (PC) - 7/10
Fatum Betula was insane to me. Like, I am obsessed with this game and I want all of my friends to do it. So when I learned that Bryce Bucher had released a new game, just after beating Fatum and getting all the endings, of course I became kinda obsessed with the idea of playing that new game. Was kinda broke so I had to wait a bit... And now it's done. I've beaten Mysteries Under Lake Ophelia.
Was expecting a fishing game with deeper horror elements than I experienced. In the end, the game was a fishing game, with not that much of horror in it, and even less of build up to these elements. But you know what? It was SO COOL.
I wasn't expecting to like a fishing game that much. There are some things that I think wasn't perfect at all. Like the cooking mechanics, or the game's repetitiveness (especially between my first and second hours). But the atmosphere, the gameplay's simplicity, and the lack of explicit goal and horror were incredible. In that regard, Mysteries Under Lake Ophelia reminded a lot of Fatum Betula. Bryce Bucher's is a master to create that weird atmosphere we can't properly describe as horror but which still is nevertheless. That was so fucking cool. Looking forward to the next projects of Bryce.
Well. Don't know what I'll play next until
Pokemon Legends Arceus. Maybe nothing. But what I'm sure is that I'll talk a lot about the last game on my list to my friends.
