My eyes rolled so far back that they almost popped out of their socketsWith any luck it's more styled after the Country subseries as well since we already got a proper Donkey Kong game this year.
Disagree. Especially on Prime 4, which I don't see any scenario on where it skips the current Switch, as it was already promised for it and Metroid will benefit of a bigger userbase from the get-go.At this point releasing a new DK game at the tail end of the Switch's lifespan is not a good business decision, especially since they just announced a new console. They'd be much better off releasing it on new hardware so it can have legs and be an evergreen title. It'd be dumb to do the same for Metroid Prime 4. Both of these titles must be financially successful for the future of their franchises to prosper. They're better off saving both for the next console and releasing DKCR and/or DK64 Remastered and MP2/3 remastered on the original Switch.

If it's a crossgen title that released on both platforms that changes things. Probably should've clarified that. Plus that's kind of standard operating procedure for Zelda going back to Twilight Princess. Nintendo is big on making sure they fulfill their promises so MP4 on Switch is more likely because of that. Forgot to consider that. I disagree that DK being on the Switch versus the successor would be better for the franchise's sales. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was disappointing sales wise and it would've fared a lot better being on the Switch 2. I guess we're debating semantics anyways. It might not even matter. You may be able to digitally or physically purchase the entire Switch library and play them on the Switch 2 regardless.Releasing BotW at the end of the WiiU's lifespan didn't stop it from having legs and being an evergreen title.
I'm hoping like crazy that 2witch is backwards compatible and shares the eShop (or at least its games even if the interface is different), which'd make Prime 4 and a potential Switch DK effectively 2witch games as far as them having legs. Being able to benefit from the install base of the Switch and the longevity of being playable on 2witch would be the best of both worlds imo.If it's a crossgen title that released on both platforms that changes things. BTW I've been burned FAR too many times. I have no expectation whatsoever for DK EPD at the June Direct. I've been hoping to see DK show up in a meaningful way since 2020. I do actually expect DKCR HD coming to hype the theme park. I think that'll be one of the last Switch first party games.
It's not new but newly released on the Switch I guess you could say. Mario vs DK is essentially a Mario game. I haven't bought the switch version but I had the GBA one as a kid. Their isn't much Jungle Beat or Country inspired things in the game. I loosely remember klaptraps appearing but I could be wrong. It's not completely original, but we just got a new Donkey Kong game earlier this year and it already sold a million copies.
Right. It's not styled after the Country subseries, but seeing as it is a spiritual sequel to Donkey Kong (1994) I would consider it part of the proper "Donkey Kong" series. Jungle Beat is a different subseries I'd say. It's not new but newly released on the Switch I guess you could say. Mario vs DK is essentially a Mario game. I'm very out of the loop but why was foliage toned down? Because of graphics issues like slowing down hardware or because it was visual clutter? The original looks prettier to me but I can see it being overbearing especially on the stone ruins. As I pointed on the old DK Vine's forum (the archive doesn't seem to be working anymore), foliage was one of the many things that were toned down in N. Sane Trilogy prior release due to fan feedback
I could see this happening, and I very much agree with the last part.I still believe DK will be for Switch 1. It will be their holiday game, and the theme park audience will not buy a $400 console at launch.
But since everything will be BC, the lines between the "Switch 1" and "Switch 2" games will be blurred.
Gahdamn that'd make a great reaction image.
so close yet so far…
Mostly visibility and readability, yeah; The initial B-Roll footage and pre-release screenshots for N. Sane Trilogy had way too much stuff filling the scenario; Other things were altered after hands-on events like giving brighter orange tones for crates so they don't blend on sand and other brown colors and better lighting overall.I'm very out of the loop but why was foliage toned down? Readability is essential for a platforming game, especially a 2D one. That bright foliage ends up camouflaging the platforms.I'm very out of the loop but why was foliage toned down? It is bizarre. DK is the most bizarre franchise in video game history. It was Nintendo's first mascot and their most popular IP from 1981-1985 (pre NES era), then it effectively died until 1994 when Rare took over and saved the franchise in addition to DK 94. Currently it's in the same situation as before, but DK has something going for it that most IPs would kill for. Brand recognition. DK is Nintendo's 2nd most popular character, 3rd most if you include Pikachu. Most IPs would kill for that brand recognition. It's just that the brand is a mess in terms of brand identity, consistency and cohesion.I still find it absolutely bizarre there's a full-on Donkey Kong Country amusement park before any other non-Mario Nintendo franchise and yet still no new mainline DK game to show for it besides a port of DKCTF 6 years ago. If the rumored DK spin-off film happens it'll be even more bizarre. Honestly even K. Rool in Smash feels bizarre now with it acting both like he was still a big Nintendo villain mainstay AND that DK was a healthy series regularly getting new entries. At least Banjo sort of had the vibe that he was 'back' after a huge hiatus.
It's like if SEGA suddenly ramped up a ton of huge budget entertainment projects for NiGHTS but had zero intention of actually making new games for it.

Ah thank you both for explaining it! Without context, I couldn't tell if it was Switch FPS issues again or from visibility but that makes sense nowReadability is essential for a platforming game, especially a 2D one. That bright foliage ends up camouflaging the platforms.
Oh this was prior the original release for the PS4 version in 2017! The Switch version a year later sacrifices a few visual effects like fur textures, reflections and some sparkles here and there, but the props on the scenarios mostly remain the same across all the versions.Ah thank you both for explaining it! Or Fami icon.
Between Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Godzilla X Kong, and the new Super Monkey Ball game, it really stings that DK is missing out on the monkey madness this year. Sure, we have the park, but it's still not quite the same as a big media release.I've been on a Planet of the Apes binge due to the new movie and it makes me yearn for Donkey Kong even more…
Same. The rebooted Apes movies are fantastic and I hope they keep making them, I’ll show up for all of them.I've been on a Planet of the Apes binge due to the new movie and it makes me yearn for Donkey Kong even more…
Don't know if any of y'all will agree with me on this, but my guess on what "SilverStar" is is that it's that 2D action platformer that EPD Tokyo has hired people for a few years ago. Specifically, the platformer in question is a new DK game w/ the Odyssey engine due to two factors:
1.) IRL, there are Silverback Gorillas, which are essentially adult male gorillas that have silver fur on their backs and hips.
2.) Super Mario Odyssey's codename was "RedStar," which suggests that there is a connection between it and "SilverStar" when it comes to perhaps, not only the same game engine being used, but also the same EPD group being involved.
In terms of the leaker who said that "SilverStar" was in development, it may not necessarily be canceled, but they instead may not have as much info on it as "SPRed." Would not be surprised if Nintendo is just putting "SilverStar" in their pile of finished games and are just waiting for the right time to release it. The project, if it is DK-related, just seems too important to just cancel due to all of the ancillary Donkey Kong stuff we have been getting as of late. Again, I could be wrong about the whole ordeal, but I thought to bring it up here to bring some potential attention to it.
Also right after she said she was retiring the account and said goodbye. So then she suddenly comes back with leaks from more companies than she's ever talked about before? It almost seems like an account hijack or something.I gotta admit I am skeptical Midori seemingly has inside scoops to just about every Japanese game company, even if her Atlus leaks have so far been accurate.
Oh. Yeah. That is the one and it's also possibly the only one I know off the top of my head from the whole series.Today my brother asked me what the worst KONG Letter was, because he knew I would have an answer.
(it's the O in Bombs Away)
Yeah, having the same feeling about this next Direct when it comes to if MonkEPD will be revealed or not. Chances are is that this will be the last possible chance that the game will be revealed for the current Switch. I do have some hope that it could get revealed in a couple of weeks since I believed that Nintendo said that they estimating that they will be selling 13+ million Switches this fiscal year. As a result, they may need a couple of titles that can sell system units and while it is possible that Prime 4 could be coming out this year, I don't think of it as a title that can appeal to everybody like Mario Wonder for example. There is also just the understood fact that DK games have come out during the twilight years of various Nintendo systems like with DKC 3 on the SNES.So, the date for the June Direct will be announced within the next few weeks. It will be hard to stomach another Direct without a new Donkey Kong game. We're approaching the point where the gap between Donkey Kong 3 (1983) and Donkey Kong Country (1994) will no longer be the longest gap in the franchise's history.
DKCR is another great example of this phenomenon. I'm really hoping for a new mainline DK platformer this coming Direct for Switch. I agree with y'all that it's the last chance for it to come to Switch. I see it as unlikely to come out around 3D Mario. I could see a DK 3D launch title alongside a much big system seller like MK9 but it still feels like possibly a non-launch window kind of game, especially if 2D.Yeah, having the same feeling about this next Direct when it comes to if MonkEPD will be revealed or not. she wanted to retire originally because the banned Z guy was taking her stuff and adding fake info to it and trying to act like they were collaborators, the internet collectively told him to f$%k off and so she came backAlso right after she said she was retiring the account and said goodbye. Not tryina be unfair to her if this is all legit (iirc catching hate online was part of why she wanted to retire, I'm not tryina contribute to that) but it seems really really weird. If it does actually turn out that she just gained a ton of fresh sources now then kickass, more power to her. But for the time being I have an eyebrow raised.
