StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (New Staff Post, Please read)

hey folks how's it going?

Can DF & co tell the base resolution of a game using DLSS? Meaning that if the Switch 2 widely uses DLSS will we be able to know what the resolution is before DLSS or just the end result?
Yes. DLSS increases the resolution by accumulating pixels over time. If you check the first frame right after a camera cut, DLSS doesn't have any extra pixels to use. That shows the input resolution

I'd like to know who got banned from fami? When did it happen?

Everyone we might have had a bad day, but let’s remember with delusion there is hope.
We still have the acknowledgement next week, October reveal and January presentation.

Let’s please not redo 2016, since this time and the past are two different things, does it suck that Nintendo hasn’t acknowledged and release the Switch 2, yes

But let us remember we have Nvidia, new leadership and hopefully a good first year with full of exclusives.

But that’s my take on the matter.

Aside from 2 Splatoon games in 1 generation, what other key teams do you think prioritized Switch 1 development over Switch 2? Wouldn't we have another 3D Mario, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc on Switch 1 if that was the case.

I guess the other anomaly would be 2 Paper Mario and Zelda games in one gen. But in the case of PM it's their first remake of a previous title, and Zelda was a direct sequel
I'm not talking about just producers and the lead developers at Nintendo, i'm thinking more about the brunt of their developers that get shifted around working on different projects. I'm thinking this led Nintendo to a situation where just a few project leads worked on Switch 2 games for a long time while a pretty huge majority of the Nintendo developers just continued being shifted around to different Switch projects like Tears of the kingdom, Mario wonder etc instead of joining the few leads and producers working on Switch 2 games.

There is no question that Nintendo put many of their producers, directors etc working on Switch 2 games pretty early, but i think they mainly put most of their developers working on Switch games, and only shifted a larger workforce of developers into Switch 2 projects at a fairly late date.

.....is there any actual proof of this theory?

No.

We still might have an acknowledgment next week.

Speaking things into existence hasn’t worked out very well.

People might get mad over this but it’s true, legendary games of course but man Nintendo is grasping at straws. When is this supposed to be announced anyway? I’m really confused about Nintendos year now, definitely feels like they are throwing stuff out here now because of the delay.

It's not like this is going to be their big holiday game or even a Direct headliner. It may just be a twitter drop or something. People acting like it's a massive statement from Nintendo is just silly.

This is just an overreaction to the overreaction to the Pyoro tweet.

At least in the switch era, Nintendo's dev management was top notch, and the mismanagement of devs due to HD-ified game development in the wiiu era having to juggle 3ds game development won't be repeated after the switch.
when i say mismanagement i'm talking about this transition period. We don't know why switch 2 was delayed but it's probably linked to softwares, maybe nintendo was to focused on the switch in the last period and wasn't capable to produce the right number of games to release the successor this year.

There is a large case to be made about Nintendo's usage of nostalgia being one of the best in any industry, but good god they've overplayed their hand for years now. I love several NES titles, but there's only so many times they can be shown before I just start getting annoyed by it. Yes it's supplemented by new stuff also, but there's only so many times I can be interested in NES Soccer... so once.

Small blessing, if you see it this way, is that I think this Nintendo World Championship game might actually be made in a series tbh. "NES Edition" is implying that it's not the only edition, which is a bit weird. Maybe we'll see NWC: N64 edition where you have to kill Gohma in a minute.... yep.
Part of the problem is that Nintendo is constantly restarting their nostalgia products. The VC on Wii was a novelty while the restarting VC on Wii U and 3DS were pushing things. By necessity, they have to start with NES stuff because that is just their prestige originator for many in the company. It's the generation that means the most to their oldest members because that was the generation they were most hands on.

But diminishing returns on these things means that these projects bring less and less return, so future iterations are cancelled. Then when development starts again, they have to still start at NES, and the cycle begins anew.

Forgive me my guy, but alot of what you're posting at this moment sounds like pessimistic assumptions.

Because whether you agree with it or not, the development cycle and cost of even medium sized games is still growing, same way the switch has experienced delays in release, this isn't a new thing, it doesn't mean that Nintendo is mismanaging their development in the transition period, it's just that their development is taking more time.

No as i wrote, its my explanation of a factor that could play a part in why we may not get a Switch 2 reveal next week. Something can have gone in that direction when it came to software pipeline for the Switch 2.

None of this is strange, when it comes to Nintendo hardware is often ready, while new software isn't. All due to software pipeline priorities.

I mean if Nintendo is being mismanged where does that leave the other two. Sony's first party output has slow down consistently from generation to generation and even had to admit they don't have much this year and no. Microsoft has been all over the place even with massive acquisitons and are still in 3rd place with Series X likely to end up well below the One

at that point you just have to say the entire industry is being mismanaged

Of course, its all speculation. None of us knows the priorities Nintendo had when it came to Switch 1/ Switch 2 development and when developers started to join in large numbers in working on Switch 2 games. But its also true that Nintendo themselves know that they are pretty short when it comes to developers, which is why they are planning an expansion. Its just logical that available workforce play a part when it comes to both having enough developers to continue to make Switch 1 games and at the same time having enough developers to work on coming Switch 2 launch titles.

but i agree with you. In my original post i also said that nintendo in paritcular has probably more problems with these situations since they rely on their first party games more than microsoft and sony

The difference is evidently the fact that Sony is comfortable with releasing new hardware and being entirely dependant on third party games to sell that new hardware. Nintendo isn't comfortable with that, which means that their internal development pipeline evidently plays a far bigger role for them compared to Sony and Microsoft when it comes to planning and executing a hardware transition period.

Yall we were already assuming 2witch info could be coming next week because of investors stuff. That possibility is not now blown away simply because Pyoro's tweet turned out to be about a game.

Pyoro is not everything, especially when it comes to hardware. If some of yall want some hope, there's still plenty for other reasons.

There seems to be a real sense of negativity in this thread. Am I missing some other news that came up? Or are people just bummed that the Pyoro tweet was about a new World Championship game?

I mean, the fact is that we're still getting the financial briefing in a few short days, which has a likelihood of having an official confirmation of new hardware. Now, that might take the form of "we're working on new hardware for launch this FY" and that's it, but that's something because it would at least allow third parties to confirm their games are coming to the new system. Unless the console is already being pushed back to mid-to-late 2025, then we won't hear about it probably (based on the manufacturing smoke....I'm guessing we're still on track for mass production starting this summer and a spring release. That's my gut talking at least).

I understand there is a thirst for details, but based on the insider info we're still about 9-10 months out at minimum from getting new hardware in our hands. Lots of time for info to come out.

It's long been speculated that Pyoro's main source of info is related to marketing or some other department that has access to information very close to reveal. I think our first confirmation of hardware could easily be in the form of a press release or other low-key announcement, which they may not have access to. I doubt Pyoro has or will have advanced knowledge of the topics discussed in the financial briefing, so you're right that we can't rule out investors getting some info next week.

People just want to hear about Switch 2, any news. They want something substantial to play or speculate on in a year that is predominantly empty for people who want to know about new things from their favorite brands. Big, expansive, AA-AAA ish games.

And this is a thread dedicated to speculating on these projects which have had little to no leaks to tide anyone over on this enthusiast forum.

I'm personally fine waiting. (Actually kinda interested in this NWC game.) But I'm sympathetic seeing as, this is how I felt during the Wii U wait for Switch.

just because they aren't announcing the witch 2 when we expect or want them to doesn't mean that they are being mismanaged.

I think the original wait for the Switch during the dark Wii U days snapped something in me. That and I'm doing other stuff than just playing video games or speculating on them.
Yeah those were dark days… but you know, ultimately those hardships made us better people (he says crying into the switch 2 shaped emptiness of his own creation becoming more deranged every second.)

Yeah, it's understandable. I have been taking a little micro-break from gaming much and consuming the speculation because I'm just not in the mood for it, but given how this year's line up is I understand why people feel they need more to chew on (all we have coming up first party-wise is two remakes and a NES remix collection that I have low expectations for).

Don't really get the concern about them having nothing to release this year, especially since we already went through something similar last year when it looked like they had little to nothing releasing after TOTK before announcing SMB Wonder/SMRPG remake/Warioware/etc

Not to say that it can't happen, but we should probably wait and see if they announce anything else within the next two months before dooming.

Plus it's just not very good imo that he's being put on such a pedestal that speculation threads are starting to have a degree of "just wait for Pyoro to say something" and "Nothing is true till Pyoro says so" to them. I'm already seeing it happen to the Direct Speculation threads, there's no reason for it to happen here.

This thread has since the beginning been about data and solid findings and proof and yes speculation, but speculation based on those things. We do not need to be spun around for twenty pages and then crash and burn because of one tweet from a cartoon bird, yall.

It reminds me of Hegel's famous quote from the philosophy of history "All great world-historical events and figures may be said to appear twice, the first time as a tragedy, the second time as a joke."Fits well with the current state of the thread.
The first part about history repeating twice is from Hegel's Lectues on the Philosophy of History, but "first as tragedy, second as farce" is from Marx's The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte.

Pretty much. The PS4 version of Doom Eternal runs at dynamic 1080p - it can drop as low as 764p, according to Digital Foundry. I think the Switch 2 version would just go for a fixed 720p before upscaling - so, 1080p DLSS Quality Mode. Should allow for a hard-locked 60fps with excellent image quality.
In handheld mode, that sounds great.

Brie Larson. (Despite people opinion on her, she ironically a huge Nintendo fan, bro even had a Wii U)
She doesn't deserve the hate she gets. I know some just don't like her as an actress but a lot of hate on her for no reason. When she says she wanted to play Samus Aran, I was like go for it.

I'd like to share your optimism but at this point I'm in the "No Switch 2 in 2025" camp.
Hell, I'm sure we'll hear about Half-Life 3 before Metroid Prime 4.

Some of y'all need to take a step back from this thread if you are this disappointed. And maybe learn how to reel in expectations when stuff like this happens or you keep setting yourself up for immense disappointment.

And this isn't me saying "told ya so" because I was in the same boat that Pyoro was hinting at something a little more than just a NES NSO game drop lol.

back at the "Switch 2 is going to be SO OUTDATED" phase now

man this red bird regressed things back to Feburary
probably shouldn't blame the bird cause people here got a little out of hand with expectations.
