Okay, so.. after getting some weeks of from Famiboards and all the leaks and insider thingies, I am a bit calmed down. That news about the release in 2025 was hectic, so I took some time of, only to show my face a few times.

Anyways, aside from that, now I was wondering what happened here in the time I went away? What kind of news/rumours did I miss?

Can someone give me a small headsup?
no change since the news of the delay

I’m not a great Pokémon expert even though I played like everyone else, and I was wondering if a Pokémon game was already released the same day as a new console?

I think you see where I’m going, I can imagine a legend Pokémon ZA, although crossgen, to be released at the same time as the switch 2 in 2025, next to a big exclusivity like 3D Mario for example. I even wonder if the fact that it is dated 2025 is not related to a calendar change for switch 2.

When everyone's saying something, there must be a direct soon; after all, all the insiders and speculators are saying it! Come on Nintendo!

When nobody's saying anything, there must be a direct soon; after all, it's so suspiciously quiet! What are you hiding, Nintendo!

no it's never happened. they could do cross gen on day one like BotW, but there's no reason for us to believe it. also, that would imply Legends 2 to be early 2025, which is what people don't want

So far significant Pokémon games have been a year or more out from system launch. Early releases have been things like Dash (DS, and an actual launch title in Japan), Battle Revolution (Wii), Rumble Blast (3DS), Pokkén Tournament DX (Switch). But yeah, the potential for a cross-gen release or enhanced Switch 1 release is a new possibility.

Pokemon has pretty consistent release schedule, look at the release dates for the mainline titles:

Pokemon Red and Blue............ - February 27, 1996
Pokemon Gold and Silver........ - November 21, 1999
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire - November 21, 2002
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl - September 28, 2006
Pokemon Black and White...... - September 18, 2010
Pokemon X and Y........................ - October 12, 2013
Pokemon Sun and Moon ........ - November 18, 2016
Pokemon Sword and Shield.... - November 15, 2019
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.... - November 18, 2022

As you can see a new gen comes out exactly every 3 years so the next one should come out in November 2025, unless They actually take an extra year like they did with BW and Diamond and Pearl and it comes out in November 2026 in occasion of the franchise 30th Anniversary.

As for Pokemon ZA, even if it's cross-gen I don't think it will come out at the same time as the switch 2, as it makes no sense to put it on the same day of 3D Mario or whatever the big launch title is going to be.
Assuming the Switch 2 is gonna release in March, It's probably gonna come out in January like Arceus.

I fully expect gen 10 is 2026, we already know about Legends ZA in 2025, I don't think GF will double up in the same year like that.

I can’t see Nintendo releasing a 3D Mario and a main Pokémon the same day. High chance for a launch window release with a “better on Switch 2” sticker IMHO.

Going back to four years between new generations is for the better. Hopefully Game Freak takes their time and it launches in a much better state.

If the announcement and release are coming at the same times as Arceus, but unlike Arceus they didn't feel ready to show any footage when announcing, they'd be really rushing it.

Wouldn't it be cool if the dock was streamable in which you can play games with the dual screen like the wii-u, ds and 3ds.
kinda like this.

I think it would make for a pretty cool gimmick

Nintendo thought so too...

I still think the best way to bring back dual screen gaming is to incorporate it into the borderline worthless switch app. Let any smart phone or tablet connect to the Switch 2 and become a touch/second screen for things like

Splatoon map and hot jumps
Mario Maker and Smash map making
Zelda quick menu

Etc

Don't ask me how this works when the system is portable, maybe it's got a build in second screen for portable play

Gen 9 and Legends Arceus both came in the same year. I'm not a Pokemon person, but just as an outside observer, it doesn't seem like the Pokemon Company announces years in advance, so I would expect ZA close to the beginning of 2025, like Arceus was.

It's not 1:1 as there's not a gen 5 remake this holiday. Assuming Legends ZA is early 2025, the gen 5 remake could be the last Switch 1 pokemon for holiday 2025 with gen 10 hitting the 30th anniversary on Switch 2 in 2026.

In general Pokémon Legends: Z-A is an unusual case for Pokémon. From the start Arceus was scheduled for Early 2022. Z-A has a more vague 2025 release year without any timing attached to it. This is unusual for them as they usually announce a timing along side a release year even when there is no footage accompanying an announcement like with Sun/Moon and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.

Edit: if it was an Early 2025 game like Pokémon Legends: Arceus they would say so. The release timing probably has not been locked down yet.

I'm not saying they will double up, it's just objectively true that Game Freak has done it before, and recently.

I probably should have said "I don't think they'll make the double up mistake with two mainline games in the same year again". I did forget LA and gen 9 were the same year.

"Dual screen gaming" as it was on DS/3DS was just single screen gaming at an unusual ratio and with empty space in the middle. "Dual screen gaming" as it was on Wii U was a big flop and harder to use for practical single-player purposes since it's harder to look at both it and the TV together.

I'm going to keep repeating this until it catches on.

The correct answer is literally a variation on this - https://a.co/d/6LOtVwp - grip attaches to joycons and holds phone. Phone has app that allows inbound streaming over wifi from switch and sends phone touchscreen touches to switch. Switch can output 2 screens at once - one to the switch or tv and a second to the phone app. Phone app is expected to have 1-5 frames of lag. This is fine for the majority of use cases - like menus.

It costs $0 to implement in hardware. All the hardware is already there. Only cost is software development.

A new Pokémon game, even if it is not exclusive to the switch 2 and it is crossgen, can only do good to the dynamics of a new game console.

However, I admit that I would find it a shame to reproduce the situation we had with Arceus and the remake of the gen 4 released the same year when they would have more greatly benefited from more development time.

The wording of the trailer in the Pokémon presents gives me the feeling that the game is strategically positioned to help the next console. This could mean that it was initially planned for the end of 2024 before the delay of the switch 2, and that a possible remake could also bé an option at the end of 2025.

Could be interesting if more games releases a unlock fps mode, this could be very beneficial to the switch 2

I think if they market Switch Attach properly there won't be as much confusion about the name, but it would certainly be starting off on the wrong foot...

Am I the only one who geniuenly likes the Wii U's name? I thought it was a clever way of signaling how they were going back to their core audience (You/U) while still appealing to the non-traditional gaming population (We/Wii).

Switch Attach on the other hand is just ridiculous. Makes it sound like a watch or something.

Switch Attach is as real as that Super Mario Odyssey 2 survey from a couple of years ago.

It could be worse…

Everytime someone posts "Switch Attach" on the internet, an angel loses their wings, falls down to earth and crash-lands on a cat's tail, which makes the cat angry and jump at the angels' face and scratch it.

Interesting. Why should I care about that?

I'm pretty sure this is just the plot of Hazbin Hotel

Now that Switch 2 is internally delayed to March 2025 I think its first CY lineup will be

March (launch): Mario Kart X, Astral Chain 2
Q2: Nintendogs, Zelda 2D*, Pokemon Legends A-Z*
Q3: Mario Party, Monolith Action IP, Star Fox
Q4: Mario 3D, 2D Metroid

Yes, I think 2025 will be a blast year for Switch NG with a dropout of important first party titles one month after another.

* denotes crossgen title.

There is probably another new IP somewhere in there, but I like this as a starting point!

I think mario kart and 3d mario are swapped tbh. The only reason to launch with kart is to sell out day 1 and they will already do that. I think it'd make a bigger impact on the market if it had the holiday buzz. Plus it's multiplayer, family/friends oriented - would work perfectly as a holiday title compared to two single player games.

They could launch with a new multiplayer IP similar to what they did with arms though. I'd pair that with 3D mario tbh.

That would be a terrible launch lineup. 3D Mario needs to be there at launch.

Can you give a reason as to why you think we'll get a new Mario Kart before a new 3D Mario?

Nintendo: hey guys remember back in the 90s we had this thing called Super Nintendo

The vast majority of people under thirty: no lol

Nintendo: oh. Well anyway here's super switch.

Not terrible but 3d mario should be there at launch, ye
A Mario Kart game that will inevitably have less content that the current entry and a IP nobody outside core Nintendo fans know about is not a good launch lineup at all.

People don't buy Switch because of Mario Kart, is mostly the other way around; if I'm getting a switch it's a no brainer to also get Mario Kart.

Yup. 8 would've sold 40 million on Wii U if people bought systems for Kart. They don't, but it's millions of people's "and" game. As in: I'm buying it for Pokémon/Zelda/Mario "and" I'm going to get Mario Kart as well. It's the go-to second game you get after something else convinces you to buy the system.

I think we have a list of top selling Switch games right here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Nintendo_Switch_video_games - and the top 23 are published by Nintendo or Pokemon Company. Switch 2 should launch with a sequel to at least 1 game in the top 10, and one fresh idea. 3D Mario and Mario Kart are exceptionally ripe for a sequel. One can quibble about spacing in the launch window, but I can honestly say that I'd buy a new system for either of those games. For other people, it might be Smash and Pokemon. They should have sequels to at least half those titles in the first 2 years, and all of them by the end of year 5. Big 3D Zelda may take that long.
