News Pokémon Legends Z-A announced for Nintendo Switch, releasing in 2025

They skipped Gen 5 because we were all expecting it. Thank god! lol So they'll just do whatever ones they want.

I’m glad they’re not going in order anymore. Kalos needed a new game way more than Unova did. Plus, it makes future game speculation more fun since they’ve been breaking a lot of patterns recently.

I think it’ll be set in a bit more modern era but not current day, likely the same time as the Pokemon War mentioned in Pokemon X and Y.
Was that not 3000 years ago? I doubt they'd go back that far. I doubt Lumiose would be at all recognisable that far either. And a war setting for a Pokémon game? I really don't see that as very likely at all.

all in the city is an interesting twist

I’m down for it. Makes me think the city will be biiiig (like the trailer shows).

Yes!! I like the idea of them making what they WANT rather than just going through the motions.

Maybe with the hardware delay Nintendo negotiated to have the big holiday title announced in a later Direct as opposed to in the Pokemon Presents.

So what starters we thinking? I'm trying to think of 'mons that would fit in Kalos. Their national animal is a rooster so maybe a rooster Torchic/Blaziken for one?
Blaziken has a Mega Evolution, which makes it unlikely.

I assume if they're giving Kalosian forms to a new trio of starters they will avoid the ones with Megas (Gen 1 and Gen 3), the Kalos starters, and the three in Legends Arceus.

we won
glad to see gamefreak spending more time on the game
However really hope there’s a native switch 2 version

all in the city is an interesting twist

y'know I figured it would be that way with the overlay

if it's segmented, it could be by the chunks shown

if it's all open... hmm... mysteriooos

excited tbh!

Set entirely in Lumiose City, huh...

I mean the "Legends" name really means something to me now so I'm willing to give this the benefit of the doubt at the moment. Not what I expected at all.

I am GLAD there is no Pokemon title though for 2 reasons. #1, it means GF is taking time. But also #2 means there's gotta be something first-party for Switch this holiday we don't know about yet. I'm into that.

anything that makes Lumiose City more interesting

what is this logo and text that pops up very briefly?

2025 is a surprise, but a pleasant one. Glad GameFreak are being given more time to cook on this one. Very much wondering what Nintendo have planned for holiday 2024 without it though

This is the absolute best option. Game Freak gets more time to make it, it's a Legends game with an interesting concept, and Gen 10 is most likely 2026 or maybe even 2027.

"A vision of beautiful coexistence between people and Pokemon"

The logo in the project plans could be interpreted as a spark...

The spark before the flare

And that's where Zygarde comes in, as it turns out the people building Lumiose had nefarious plans all along

for the first time since the series started, we're getting no pokemon mainline game for two years in a row (2023 and 2024)

I'd say the DLCs require more development than the third versions they replaced so while that's technically true I don't think it is significant.

But if this releases later in the year then first full year break for a Game Freak release since 2015 certainly is significant.

While I'm super glad the Game Freak is skipping 2024 and potentially won't release this game until holiday 2025 -- they've didn't specify "Early 2025" like PLA did for its early 2022 date, so I have hope -- I do have to wonder... what is Nintendo planning for the holidays? Their holiday seasons for the past seven years has been "something" + Pokémon, even if the Pokémon is just DLC. What will the "something" be? Will they have a something? Hell, what is TPC planning for the holidays? I refuse to believe they don't have a spin-off or something planned to fill the void. Guess we'll find that out in May/June?
My guess
  • one last Mario Party (Gamecube Superstars?)
  • one of DK or Prime 4 if either is ready, Zelda WiiU ports if they're not
  • Pokemon games on NSO (separate app with no save states/rewind, all on the Expansion Pack tier) as the "please resubscribe" incentive"

If we assume that all Kalos Pokemon and all Pokemon with Mega Evolutions (including the ORAS ones) are returning we can extrapolate a lot of the potential Pokedex, assuming they keep it to ~250 like Arceus.

I wonder what urbanism plan are they talking about since Lumiose is based in Paris:
-1852-1914 is what is considered the Haussmanian and post-Haussmanian modernisation of Paris, started by Emperor Napoleon III (1852-1870). That's the Paris we all know and love with those beautiful regular buildings, etc. Plus, the Eiffel tower was built in 1889.
-Present day: Paris' mayor is trying to modernise the city in order to have more green spaces, more bikes and less cars. This one is a bit less exciting for a game lol

Legends Arceus was based in XIX century Sinnoh, which is inspired by Hokkaido, colonized by Japan in the XIX century. In the trailer they draw from scratch a haussmanian (XIX century Paris) type of building, so I don't think this will be a future remodelation, and rather a past one. It would make sense for this one to be set at the time when Lumiose city became the Lumiose we explore in X/Y.

ENTIRELY in Lumiose City?? Huh.

Also this does not deconfirm Gen 10 in 2025, just look what happened with the last Legends game. We could very easily get Z-A in early 2025 and Gen 10 as a November 2025 release. I know there’s a lot of talk about Gen 10 in 2026 for the 30th anniversary (I hope that’s true so GF has more dev time), but it’s entirely possible they stick to their three-year new-gen cycle.

Now she'll really be surprised when she sees the gen 10 launch in late 2025.

Yeaah! I'm all for them getting creative with Legends games.

Whole game in a city? Interacting with pokemons differently?
The most excited I've been for a Pokemon game in a while.

Seeing so many people saying this is in a future make me questioning my thoughts because my first impression was it gonna be in the past.

Like help develop the Lumiose City to become what we know in XY, and the title is Z-A (reverse alphabet) sound like we going backward (back to the past), not forward.

As others have said Arceus was said to be Early 2022 while this just says 2025 so I'm pretty hopeful this will be in the later half of 2025 and Gen X will be Nov 2026.

With Legends: Arceus they specifically stated early 2022

The game looks super interesting and I’m really glad there’s a new Legends, but man… “Z-A” is a terrible name. I’d much prefer if they just called it “Pokemon Legends Z”. It’d be much more memorable and simple, and lean into the whole fan-desire for “Pokémon Z” thing more.

“Z-A” on the other hand just sounds and looks strange. Not a fan of that title lol

I wonder if they skipped Gen 5 because Gen 6 is in 3D already and they can reuse a lot more of XY in a XY remaster/remake then they would in a BW remake...
I'd be very surprised if there were 3DS assets in this. XY used a more chibi/deformed style

Oh wait you’re right lol

I definitely didn't see this one coming. I was so sure that they were going to come out with a new Let's Go game instead.

Not to mention the region. Kalos instead of Unova? That's intriguing to say the least.
