News Pokémon Legends Z-A announced for Nintendo Switch, releasing in 2025

I am so fucking pumped. I adore PLA. Kalos is a great setting for the next one (heavy emphasis on its past lore). And I like X and Y, dammit.

You have to assume AZ will have a role in the game!

Love the announcement since Legends was the best thing to happen to the series in my opinion. But also kinda scared the concept might be too different from Legends, since the catching is what I like the most in Pokemon and especially in Arceus.
Anyway, great news!

I personally hope the catching element is significantly different from Arceus, as it’s the biggest thing turning me off of the game.

I just hope they don't go hard on the Greninja fanservice. Of all the pokemon that have had a media push, that one's my least favourite. God, I can't stand that stupid angular thing with its disgusting tongue and total lack of charisma...

Let us go on a fabulous shopping trip in poke-Paris with Braixen or some shit and leave Greninja at home. And a Fire/Dark warlock-themed Delphox would be pretty damn cool.

Also, Lumiose City in X/Y was a great example of a good idea that the hardware just couldn't handle. Too many loading areas between streets, limited camera angles, lack of scale due to the former issue, and confusing as hell too. This will be the redemption of Lumiose.

for the first time since the series started, we're getting no pokemon mainline game for two years in a row (2023 and 2024)

The game will probably be nothing like it, but the footage gave me massive Detective Pikachu vibes with everything living in the city

Website - "A new adventure awaits within Lumiose City, where an urban redevelopment plan is underway to shape the city into a place that belongs to both people and Pokémon. Please look forward to seeing it for yourself." Sounds like another game set in the past? Isn't Lumiose a place that already 'belongs to both people and pokemon' in X and Y?

I'm so glad Legends Arceus wasn't a one-off. It was the most fun I've had with a Pokemon since Crystal.

Can't wait to see how they build upon the gameplay with Z-A.

People set up unrealistic expectations of Unova remakes way too soon. No one was robbed, Unova is coming around 2027.

Yeah but we will likely not be getting a Legends Unova remake

and I wouldn't put it past TCPi to outsource the remakes again

It feels like Unova is going to get done the dirtiest

Can't wait to incur the wrath of Zygarde when the urban redevelopment disturbs the ecosystem by building on the green belt

so if I'm not taking it too literally, it looks like this game takes place in Lumiose city alone, and the wording makes me consider that it might be restricted to just Lumiose and not all of Kalos

idk if they'll do anything with the post-Sinnoh DS games down the line but I'm glad that they still get stand as is for the time being. Kalos needed redemption, those games don't need anything

The city setting seems like a good opportunity for Iwao's team to double down on the sidequesty stuff they love. I could see the Pokémon-catching angle playing into that, though I worry it'll have even fewer opportunities for battling than Arceus did

This game should give Pokemon GO a few more Mega Evolutions to drip feed lol. That way they can put off figuring out what they want to do after Megas for another couple of years.

I'm so so sooo happy Legends seems to be a regular thing now!

If my instincts are correct, I think this is how GF solves the decade long conundrum of "how do we keep adult fans engaged while having the new games being accessible for little kids". The answer is Legends is the more challenging more exploration focused experience, and the new gens are streamlined and accessible for everyone.

gonna be the mid-19th century napoleon III/haussmann grand reconstruction of Paris setting the fans have been clamoring for

How would you catch all your Pokémon entirely in Lumiose?

That was just a teaser, I doubt they would call the game Legends if it didn't feature the open areas to explore.

It seems this time there will be a bigger focus on developing the main hub, though, which already was a thing in Arceus.

Maybe you're not catching Pokémon but you befriend Pokémon that you can then control to befriend more Pokémon to help you. That weird mode in the SV DLC was a test for this, really makes you think 🚬 And then you just kinda hang out at a café

it would be very strange to have a game with a central theme of going out and catching 'mons set in one urban environment, you can't fit a whole pokedex in there

I’m hoping this means this is based on whatever the French Revolution equivalent of the Pokémon world and not just the Legends formula on modern day Kalos

I wonder if they skipped Gen 5 because Gen 6 is in 3D already and they can reuse a lot of XY instead of remaking BW...

Nah from what it seems the Legends games are based off of concepts they wanted to include in mainline series (Arceus event in DPPt, and now Z stuff from Kalos) but didn't have the opportunity too

I will be upset if Gen V remakes are outsourced tho

While I'm super glad the Game Freak is skipping 2024 and potentially won't release this game until holiday 2025 -- they've didn't specify "Early 2025" like PLA did for its early 2022 date, so I have hope -- I do have to wonder... what is Nintendo planning for the holidays? Their holiday seasons for the past seven years has been "something" + Pokémon, even if the Pokémon is just DLC. What will the "something" be? Will they have a something? Hell, what is TPC planning for the holidays? I refuse to believe they don't have a spin-off or something planned to fill the void. Guess we'll find that out in May/June?

Possibly something to do with how it's being redesigned to be a city for humans and Pokemon

We've had Legends for one game, we don't have any idea what the subseries means yet

My guess is it'll be an open city map but with Pokemon biomes somehow integrated in. It's an interesting idea if they pull it off though man it sounds a tough one to pull off. Open city games obviously exist but how do you bring that into Pokemon?
