It’s the weekend thread! This is our place to bask in our pitiful weekly respite from our jobs and talk about what video games we plan on playing but really we won’t actually play because most of us are adults and we’re too darn busy even on the weekends to have any real time to ourselves and even when we do have the time we fall asleep on the couch at 9:30pm instead of playing games because life is exhausting.

The January doldrums are getting to me. Let’s go.

——————

Same as last week, my two main games for the weekend are going to be 13 Sentinels - Aegis Rim and The Last of Us Part II Remastered.

I made okay progress in 13 Sentinels over the course of the week, and somehow this game keeps surprising me with all of its twists and turns.

TLoU 2, though, I didn’t really play much because I didn’t have the time. I’m a few hours in, and Ellie only just arrived in Seattle. The game has barely had time to start. Hopefully I can actually play it this weekend!

——————

Alright folks, you know what to do. Have at it. Stay safe everyone, and have a great weekend!

Continuing with Golden Sun (GBA) and testing the new version of Zephyr’s Pass (GBC).

I kind of want to spice things up. Limited Run Games opened pre-orders of Shantae and The Pirate’s Curse, for its supposedly “final 3DS release” (I’m skeptical). I already have it digitally, but now I can’t stop thinking about it, and I haven’t played a Shantae game in a while.

Too real.

I’m not playing anything this weekend probably, got too much shit to do. Didn’t even get Tekken 8 yet. I’m probably just squeezing in some anime wherever I can.

Been playing this fun 2D platformer called Witcheye. It must be one of Devolver's most unknown releases as I rarely hear anyone mentioning it.

As is typical for me, my time is being split in a couple of ways. I've decided to focus more on Xenoblade 3 and Yakuza Kiwami for now, so it'll be more of that (most likely).

Finish Another Code Recollection, my plan right after was going to be binging the Apollo Justice Trilogy, but because Capcom is not back, the physical release isn't still available here, so instead I'll continue Baldur's Gate III and my FF mode playthrough of FFXVI. Will also probably play some XIV since I bought it again on PS5.

I've been playing Super Mario Luigi Galaxy, currently at 21 stars. Mostly playing short sessions of 2-3 stars at a time, but the game is so good I'm itching to play more. I don't have much time this weekend as I have an important deadline for my study.

Also some Boom Street with friends maybe

Ouch. Adulting and body maintenance takes up so much time, eh? Weekends are the best time to spend time with our partners (who might not be into playing video games).

If not spending time with family, I'm probably going to be playing Atelier Ryza 1. I started the game a couple of years back and dropped it really soon. Now, I really want to finish the game. It didn't do so back then but now, the gameplay clicked with me. I know what to do next and I'm quite interested in knowing what happens next! Ryza herself gives me Haruhi vibes and I'm fine with that!

A lot!

I’m adoring continuing the second Another Code game, I’m thrilled to finally start Apollo Justice and ready to dig into TLoU Part 2’s No Return mode, and I hope to be able to set aside a few hours for In Stars And Time somewhere as well.

I'm playing Witcher 3, finished the main story a few days ago and I'm doing the Blood & Wine expansion right now. I played it first on Switch a few years ago, this time it felt substantially shorter, and that's despite the fact that I basically remembered almost nothing about it.

It looks gorgeous with ray tracing,

If I decide not to catch up on sleep for some reason -- I really need to sleep and de-stress; looked in the mirror this morning and I have my first gray hair at 29, bleh -- I'll continue on my adventure game kick and play some Tangle Tower.

I always try to force myself to stay up late on a Friday night but I’m always sparko by 10 haha

So, this weekend my main game will be Marvel Midnight Suns (Steam Deck) which I’m enjoying a lot, even the social Abbey parts which I think many didn’t enjoy.

I’ve barely touched my Switch this year and I feel somewhat guilty so might try and find time to play something on that over the weekend. Might load up Super Mario Bros Wonder again and see if I can chip away at getting 100%

Final Fantasy XIII continues. I’m getting close to Gran Pulse at this point. There is a pretty hard boss shortly before you get there (that Church Dummy, whatever his name is) and I’m interested to see how my newfound command of the battle system stacks up to it. Still having a great time. I’ve never played XIII-2 or Lightning Returns and…I’ve kind of been thinking about doing that instead of moving onto Baldur’s Gate III after. What in the hell is wrong with me? You decide!

Over on the Switch, I’m sort of sampling the NSO apps. I re-subbed to the Expansion Pack for Golden Sun, but I feel like I have a Subscription Problem. NSO, Game Pass, Netflix, whatever: when presented with so many options I feel like I can’t stick with anything. It’s not a bad time, certainly — a little Shinobi III here, a little Wave Race 64 there — but it makes me feel aimless in a way my anxious mind finds a little unpleasant. Maybe I’ll try Winback? Never played that one. You see?!

That's one hot lineup. Enjoy!

What’s that bottom game?
Umurangi Generation!

Splatoon 3 of course, as I'm less than 20 levels away from 100 in the current catalogue. And I made the playoffs in my current season in Super Mega Baseball 3, so I'll be playing that like a maniac until I either win the whole thing or get eliminated. Should I finish that in a timely fashion, then there's some Persona 3 Portable in my future as well.

Some TotK is likely but I installed Yakuza 0 on my Steam Deck and Persona 5 Royal, so might give them some attention.

Still working my way thru Persona 5 Tactica, and still having a good time! The gameplay has remained very solid and the story has managed to pick up enough to keep me invested. From what I gather, I’m just about two thirds of the way finished with the main game, but with free time being kind of up in the air this weekend I’m not sure how much farther I’ll make it.

(Kind of tempted to pick up the side story DLC with the Royal trio now that it’s on sale, but there is a part of me that would rather wait and see if the price goes down further before I jump on that)

I'm not going to make any promises about starting Baldur's Gate 3, but I have just reached what is essentially the end of Act One of Baten Kaitos, which would be a good place to take a break and maybe play something else, no?

Alas, friends and siblings want to socialise this weekend, too.

Just got back from work. Right now, I'm busy sitting on my couch and not wanting to do anything.

I'm in kind of a lull right now. Nothing is grabbing me. Still, I'll try to start something new, or resume something from the backlog. I just need a bit of sleep right now!

Super Mario Wonder continues to be sheer bliss, 2D Mario hits in all the right ways- I struggle to 100% it without a guide, but I insist and persist.

Triangle Strategy
Me too! My first time up through Chapter 7 on Hard, I uh, can't get enough of this game- I must have played at least seven hours in two days!

Starting Grime on Switch, the port is a bit rough around the edges but I'm liking the game a lot: Amazing atmosphere and combat is very engaging :)

Finish off Dragon's Dogma's (Steam Deck) post-game storyline, not sure I'm going to do the DLC area though.

Other than that, Cassette Beasts (also Steam Deck).

I'm attempting a return to The Case of the Golden Idol. The Switch version has a pretty bad save bug that caused me to give up on it earlier, but someone on their Discord mentioned that always exiting to main menu and waiting a moment before closing the game would help, so I'll try that.

I also started Jusant on PS5 during the week, and would love to continue it if I can find some time.

If I decide not to catch up on sleep for some reason -- I really need to sleep and de-stress; looked in the mirror this morning and I have my first gray hair at 29, bleh -- I'll continue on my adventure game kick and play some Tangle Tower.
Gray hairs are a sign of wisdom! I know it can be stressful, but be proud, too. No wonder you picked a rad game like Tangle Tower, O Wise OctoSplattack. 😀

I started a new save in Kingdom Hearts Final Mix but I'm not sure if I actually wanna play it again. Just a lot of stuff that keeps annoying me. I'm pretty sure that the Gummi Ship sections were deliberate anti-railshooter propaganda.

Might instead finally start with Paranormasight.

I’m going to get back to Baldur’s Gate 3 after taking the week off from it. I will probably also continue Kirby and the Forgotten Land along with random races of F-Zero 99.

I started Tomb Raider 2013 today. So far it's pretty good, but I'm like an hour and a half in and it still feels like the intro, so I'm starting to get a bit concerned this is one of those cases where that's just how the whole game is gonna feel. I also forgot just how into archery and skill trees and distributing lore via 11 billion collectibles everyone was back in 2013; definitely a game of its time. Something that struck me was how interesting it is to consider the opening credits: Published by Square Enix, developed by Crystal Dynamics (now owned by Embracer and co-developing Xbox's Perfect Dark), and ported to PC by Nixxes (now owned by Sony and works on bringing Playstation games to PC). A lot sure has changed since this game came out

Also about halfway through Halo 2 on Steam Deck, so planning on getting through more of that this weekend. I was kinda iffy on Halo 1, but this one has really done a better job of grabbing me

Finally I just found out via the complete games thread that Super Kiwi 64 got a sizable free content update, so I'll probably spend an hour or two checking that out

Nearing the end of Mass Effect 3. Heard it was best to do everything before the final mission, so I might not be able to finish it yet. But wow, what a ride this trilogy has been. Can't believe I waited this long!

Finish off Dragon's Dogma's (Steam Deck) post-game storyline, not sure I'm going to do the DLC area though.

You should give it a try at least. The DLC (Bitterblack Isle) is arguably the best part of Dragon's Dogma.

finished Metroid Dread yesterday clocking around 14hs.
Amazing game. The last battle is plain awesome!

Starting 13 Sentinels now.

Excited the weekend is here after a busy week! I wrapped up all of my unfinished business from 2023 so it's on to all new games! Biggest thing I'm enjoying right now is Under Night In-Birth II. I'm a little disappointed it doesn't have a full visual novel story mode like UNIST and UNICLR, but I'm excited to get in there and have some fun! Of the three new characters, Kaguya is my early favorite flying around the battlefield guns blazing. I also briefly started Another Code this week and I'm looking to finish the first game in the collection at least. After that I'm excited to dive into Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth which I imagine is going to be the big game I'm playing for a few weeks. Seems absolutely colossal!

Still progressing in Prince of Persia, 20 hours in atm. This is so much fun, kinda reminds me of the old games on SNES.

Other than that, I also got Hitman and Grime for Switch too. Looking to start them tomorrow.

Going to try and finish the second game in the Another Code Recollection but I may be distracted by other games like Vampire Survivors update

Prince of Persia is the go to all weekend again, game is fabulous. Taking my time, relatively, think I’m maybe around halfway or so?

Working through my library with DemiKids: Light Version. Dark Version is one of my childhood favorites after a neighbor gave it to me thinking that it was Pokemon (which I suspect is how 90% of DemiKids players got into it anyways). Light is clearly far inferior to Dark but the game is just long enough to carry me to the long-awaited Persona 3 Reload.

I've been in a particularly foul mood in the last two weeks, so i missed this thread in a row lol. I lost my Tears of the Kingdom game card, i'm sure i haven't lost it and i have my suspicions about what happened to it, but i can't prove anything, so it's eating me inside.

But well, i have to put my gaming shit together so it's time schleude my weekends again. These are my plans:

Horizon: Zero Dawn - Definitive Edition (Steam)
The announcement of the PC version for Forbidden West has ignited a fire under my ass to finally get to play this. I'm more advanced on PS4/5 but the lack of gyro absolutely ruins it, and to make things worse i've booted it on my ultrawide monitor, so i can't go back lol.

So yeah, i installed it and played a little to get a sense of where i was, plus getting used again to my Switch procon config.

Cassette Beasts (PC/xCloud)
I started playing this merely in spite of the Palworld situation, and it's amazing! Got far enough to beat the first couple of vampires/real state agents lol and my only gripe with the game is the capture/recording mechanic.

The soundtrack is INCREDIBLE

Pokémon SoulSilver
Thaaaaaaaaat's right, folks, i'm still on it. Admittedly i haven't played too much, but i managed to reach Azalea Town at least. I'm planning to spend the evening with this one, so tomorrow will be recap time!

As for the side dishes...

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (RG351p)
I'm starting my yearly 'vania replay marathon with this one, already on the outer wall ready to get into the long library. Portable Symphony of the Night is a thing.

Forza Motorsport (PC/xCloud)
Managed to unlock the online and i've been enjoying short bursts on this one. Sadly, the level up and upgrade mechanics fuck things up a bit because none of my current cars are actually competitive yet, but i'm getting there. Also, there's an italian car showcase going on right now, and i never miss those.

You should give it a try at least. The DLC (Bitterblack Isle) is arguably the best part of Dragon's Dogma.
I see. Can't hurt to give it a try.

The reason I'm playing the game was to see if I liked the concept enough to get Dragon's Dogma 2 when that releases. I definitely like the concept, but the game itself is a little rough in execution (great combat, like the pawn system, questing/exploration/the world are kinda mid). If the sequel sands off those rough edges it could be incredible.

Bitterblack is a pure dungeon crawl (with lightly randomized rooms/enemies) that plays to DD's strengths. It's pretty much entirely combat arenas.

Man Prince of Persia is so so good, right now - I'm guessing I'm halfway through the story - I would probably put it in my top 5 games for 2023 if it released last year.

Just fantastic

It's metrodivania weekend since finally my copy of prince of persia got here- The game is really good and we are just in january!

Also chip challenge

After getting some much-needed rest, I started Fire Emblem on GBA NSO. I played 5 chapters, and I have enjoyed its simplicity. It has a good balance of moving from battle to battle with small bits of dialogue in between. It also has nice artwork! After managing lots of things in Three Houses and Engage, it's nice to play a Fire Emblem with a more basic gameplay loop.
