It’s a cool statue, but I think ‘magical humanoid with animal ears’ is vague enough in mythology (and pop culture in general) to be anything. Hares appear across a ton of myth cycles worldwide (including Japan) as a common animal symbolising various things, and the Zonai themselves venerate various other animal/mythic archetypes too. Plus there’s stuff like the March Hare in Alice in Wonderland.
