currently CD-only, not sure if they're planning to put it on digital services or not.

for those unaware of the origins for these, the 2012 digital compilations (released in the west under the "SEGA Vintage Collection" brand) introduced the idea of including original music for each game on the main menu. designed to sound as if it was ripped directly from the game in question.

for this, they hired the legendary chiptune artist Jaelyn Nisperos (more commonly known as Chibi-tech) to compose the songs. she had previously got her start submitting chiptunes to a yearly "Famicompo mini" event as far back as 2004. eventually winning in it's 3rd year with the entry "お兄ちゃんだからいいよ~♪"

unfortunately you'll have to go by the preview video for the SEGA Ages Online tracks, but needless to say. they're all excellent and nail the aesthetics of each game perfectly.

with those results in mind, she was unsurprisingly brought back several times for later SEGA Projects. some notable examples that are included in this collection.....
  • rearranged the entire soundtrack for Alex Kidd in Miracle World, creating an alternate version in a world where the game supported the Mark III's FM sound unit.
  • remixed various classic SEGA tunes in the style of Power Drift's OST, for extra crossover courses in the 3D Classics release.
  • a few original tracks were done by her as well, such as the opening theme for Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives 3: Final Stage, and the generic (albeit based off the SEGA CD's bios theme) song used for the menus on the Switch SEGA Ages releases.
she even did music for a SEGA Anime, composing a retro-inspired theme song for Mega Drive in the classic "Hi-sCoool! SeHa Girls" series. (that show had it's own standalone OST release years ago)

of course, it's not all her. other artists included in this release are various M2 employees such as Tatsuhiko Kasuga, Manabu Namiki, and Akira Saito. the last of whom sadly passed away back in 2016.
