News "Nine Sols" announced, metroidvania game inspired by Hollow Knight and Sekiro (out NOW on PC and consoles)

I've only played up to the first Sol but I really like this. Playing on Story Mode, which I would recommend to anyone worried about the difficulty. It's implemented somewhat inelegantly, and I can't help but feel some amount of judgment from the developers (the menus remind you you're playing in Story Mode, and you don't seem to be able to change the difficulty after you've started), but I still appreciate its inclusion. I wish more difficulty-focused games would include something like it

finished the 6th boss fight... shit's probably the hardest one, despite it being simple, I truly had trouble.

overall the vibe of the zone was super interesting

Also super interesting seeing actual cat people, like real life one in the boss arena, in which they're out of their mind, by partying and whatnot... which makes it super sad, that their civilisation is screwed

wait really?

I'm talking about this one

didn't know you can choose which one to tackle

I forget the specifics but like... most of the time you have a choice between tackling 2 areas. There's a few big story ones which are scripted to happen at certain points but yeah. The game is designed to have multiple boss and location exploration orders.

I started playing this on Game Pass today, got a little past the Charge Strike. Absolutely adore the aesthetic direction and general gameplay. The only thing that I'm kinda iffy on so far is the Internal Damage system, it feels way more punishing for imperfect parries than Posture was in Sekiro, while also lacking the latter's "defense is offense" element.

Gamepass on PC or Xbox? If you're on PC I would recommend holding off until the next patch. There's a save file deletion bug unfortunately plaguing that version.

PC Gamepass yeah. That's really unfortunate to hear, have they mentioned an ETA on the patch?
No but RCG has been abnormally silent about the game since console and gamepass launch. I'm guessing they're a bit overwhelmed atm considering they were putting out several patches to steam several days a week leading up to the other releases. I can't imagine its more than another week but I don't work for them lol

Random tip that's probably obvious: You have to be facing some attacks (especially projectiles) to parry them, but this doesn't seem to apply if you're in the air. 95% of the time you probably will be anyway but that other 5% it's easy to forget.

I was losing my mind doing an arrow parry challenge near the end of the game and thinking I was just really sucking it up before I remembered this.

Eight Sols down, nearly 100% items and most everything done. All I think I have left is the last one and then probably some kind of final final boss.

It's funny how things work in these games - I was getting wrecked by the twins and then went and did the Grotto boss instead (who was much easier) and then for whatever reason when I came back to them it was like I could see the matrix and it only took a couple attempts.

Your boy just became the 14th person EVER to beat the final boss with a modded "level 0" save file:

Level 0 means: what Yi starts with. SO: Base health and damage, only 2 pipe hits, ground dash and a parry. Yes, it is a fucking 15 minute long fight.

Major props! I'm on this fight now and I can pretty reliably get to phase three but the new attack is tough to get a read on. I wish you could practice it without having to fight the first two forms first

Decided to soldier on with the PC GamePass version since I could only find the Steam version having save issues, just beat the true final boss this morning. While I wish the main antagonist had more build-up and the Internal Damage mechanic had more tweaking, I loved my time with the game. That final boss in particular hits those Sword Saint Isshin buttons and I mean that in the best way possible.

I've died like ten times to Jiequan in the factory as I can't get the unbound parry timing right. Regular parries are fine, unbound parries against projectiles are fine, but the red spear jumping attack I just can't unbound parry, and it's tough to practice as one mistake is a one hit death.

One thing with unbound counter that I found is that it has a pretty wide window on the early side. I practiced it against random enemies for a bit and it seemed like it was better to let go a bit earlier rather than later in my experience

I managed to beat Jiequan by just dodging away (and then through the flame pillars) and not using unbound counters at all, but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

Oh yeah @MarcelRguez you will want to see my above messages

Sorry for 3 messages back to back I swear I'm not trying to bump this thread. Totally not biased or anything...........
it's happening

Thank you both! Fangamer is a bit inconvenient for me, but if there's no other choice, it's good enough!

I'm more excited fangamer is involved at all. I love their merch, I have many many plushies from them. Now I hope RCG commits and makes a 3 foot tall Yi plush... If they don't, I am prepared to commission one for obscene amounts of money.....

Can't find the pre-order on EU Fangamer yet, hopefully we get it over here too.
just buy it from any regular store. you don't need to buy from them directly. this ain't limited run^^ (even those you can get now at regular online stores a bit later since they do bulk orders from LRG)

I'm very happy that Nine Sols will be in edited by fangamer and not by Limited Run ! Because they will release it in Europe !
you can buy limited run stuff in non-bezos online shops across europe once the units are shipped.

Ah, it would be my first time dealing with Fangamer so I didn't know! Thanks for the heads up!

Damn, I was going to wait for the physical release before playing it but you folks are making me want to get it before that...
