For the last few weeks I've been playing through the Evercade's Atari Lynx collections and have been mostly underwhelmed especially by what Songbird Productions put on the first collection. Things started to look up when I got to the Epyx developed stuff. Played through the first 10 levels of Chip's Challenge for the Lynx today and well, this one is a keeper. This was a 1989 launch title for the Lynx which unfortunately got overshadowed and outsold by the Game Boy (which was economical as far as battery life and hardy as a brick) and the Game Gear (that SEGA attitude and cache really helped it although it sold nowhere near the Game Boy). Chip's Challenge is a puzzle game, it has some actiony stuff and some things where you essentially have to do the Sokoban thing and push boxes to advance.
I had heard this was good before but playing it I definitely got hooked into it very quickly trying to safely collect each chip and exit. Chuck Sommerville definitely created something special here, and I'm glad that it picked up an audience after the Lynx died off. I do like some other Sokoban inspired puzzle games like the Adventures of Lolo, but Chip's Challenge has also definitely made my Top 10 favorite puzzle games list. So anybody else here on Famiboards like this game?
