TV HBO's The Last of Us |ST| You know Ellie, we really are an ST subtitle [MARK SPOILERS]

will definitely be intriguing to see how they tell the story of the game this season - for various reasons, doing it the same as the game seems unlikely/difficult

7 ep season and they said its probably gonna take more than 2 seasons to go over the 2nd game. That doesn't sound great tbh. I don't think the story in TLOU2 is enough to carry 3 seasons of a tv show.

I don't read it as probably - I think at this stage they're saying "Yeah this season is shorter, but don't worry, there's still so much left of the second game, the third season will be so huge, maybe it won't even all fit omg"

I imagine they'll want to wrap it up in two seasons, as otherwise we're going to perpetually lack any sense of resolution which will suck. I'm still super curious how they approach the game, though

yeah it feels like they were saying there is another season post the season 2 adaptation (I could see the potential fourth season being Santa Barbara epilogue of Pt 2/the Tommy story that's been mentioned)

As lead on both projects, Druckmann teased how the storyline in the second game will be expanded in Season 2 of "The Last of Us."

"What I've really enjoyed now is sometimes there are these people that have watched the show and then went and played the game and talked about, what a cool experience," Druckmann said. "The game sometimes hints at stuff that we just don't have time to get into the show, that the game can and vice versa. If you experience both, they're both richer for it. And I love hearing that experience from people. They tell me, like, 'I watch the show and then I play the game, and I really like how different the Bill sequence is, and that gave me this other insight into him.' And there's stuff in this season that I'm really excited about — stuff that we hinted at — one scene in particular comes to mind that I think fans of the game will eat up, because it really kind of tells you a lot of backstory of this important character that there wasn't really a way for us to even do that in the game."

There is a lot in the article.

People who haven’t played part 2 are not prepared for the heartbreak lol. I’ve beaten that game twice and I don’t think I’m prepared

Spring 2025

Max has revealed fresh release details for The Last of Us Season 2, confirming the much-anticipated follow-up will be out in spring 2025.

Wait. I just realized that TLOU3 game is probably seven or eight years away, because Naughty Dog is busy with Intergalactic. So the show will get ahead of the game series. How the hell is this going to work?

Per Druckmann etc... The series will take at least 2 seasons (probably more) to cover all of Part 2 and it takes 2 years between seasons... so still have a while to go and can always do some side story seasons/flashbacks

Call me optimistic, but I think that the show comes out ~2 years after Intergalactic, so 2028/9 (hopefully). Naughty Dog has two full project teams so both could be working side by side on both projects.

Big budget TV shows like TLOU seem to take 2 years to make for each season.

Season 2- 2025
Season 3- 2027
Season 4- 2029

Like @aus89 mentioned, TLOU Part 2 will encompass at least 2 seasons. I'll wait until season 2 finishes before making any predictions, but it wouldn't shock me if Part 2's story was wrapped up by season 3. Worst case, HBO and Sony can agree to push back Season 4 by a year. I doubt that it will be close to a Game of Thrones situation.

Druckmann and ND are involved heavily so even if they do end up going ahead of the games in the timeline, i doubt they will "ruin" Part 3 of the game series or even cover the same territory - they can easily do that Tommy side story theyve mentioned or... anything else instead of covering the same story as Pt 3 game will

Some quick bullet points.

  • Craig Mazin thinks it's "pretty likely" the show will extend beyond Season 3
  • Season 2 includes deleted scenes from the game, some of which were in TLOU2 Remastered.
  • Season 2 includes a "prominent character that is talked a lot about in the game" similar to Frank in S1
