Sales Data Famitsu Sales: Week 29, 2023 (Jul 17 - Jul 23)

So happy to see Pikmin 4 become a breakout hit in Japan. It should become the best selling game in the series worldwide without issue at this rate, I wonder how far it'll reach.

It's crazy that Miyamoto's crazy fever dream game that no one bought for decades, outsold freaking Final Fantasy's lifetime sales in just a single week. That for sure says a lot about Pikmin, but at the same time its crazy how much Square has turned their back on their Japanese userbase.

Pikmin used to be the series that was shoved in the corner, and held on despite all metrics leading it to be a failure(Gamecube, Pikmin 3's rocky development, and the Wii U). But now, it's likely going to be one of Nintendo's important franchises going forward. What is left after this? Pretty much every worthwhile Nintendo has made a comeback in spectacular fashion. The fact that people cling to F-Zero and Star Fox really means there are very little series that Nintendo can reasonably unearth.

it does feel like there's some contribution of the PS5's poor software selling situation in general to this beyond just the games in terms of the FF16 comparison
