Wow!
Pikmin 4-00,000!

Impressive debut, the Switch has really given a huge boost in sales to so many Nintendo franchises

Someone make a gif of Pikmin beating out a Chocobo. Imagine going back in time 2001 and telling people Pikmin would be a bigger deal than Final Fantasy.

Miyamoto, at home, reading these sales numbers: "Took you long enough. You were blind, but now you see".

Holy hell 401k for Pikmin 4 physical alone!!! I imagine with digital it's at 600k at least. Can't wait to see the WW numbers.

I haven't checked these threads in a while; I'm glad to see Tears of the Kingdom doing so well.

What else is there to say but WOW at Pikmin. What are the other Pikmin games sitting at LTD?

EDIT: InstallBase comes through! Source

Launch sales: 171.349
2020 sales: 499.156
As of December 2021 : 601.952
As of December 2022 : 642.696

maybe 800k counting Digital? This will clear that pretty easily.

Unreal. Go Pikmin!!

The ST subtitle was right, it really is a Pikminvasion. Fantastic performance, especially since these are purely physical numbers.

Too bad Switch itself couldn’t quite reach 30M. Would have made this a really crazy week haha.

I said it in another thread but by comparison Kirby Forgotten land sold physically 380,000 copies in its first week in Japan and is now at 5.27 millions globally so if Pikmin 4 follows a similar pattern it'd be very promising and sets a new standard for the franchise.

Huge launch for Pikmin 4. I know digital ain't included and that the Japanese market is Nintendominated, but it is a little crazy to see Pikmin's opening weekend physical sales over take Final Fantasy XVI's physical sales to date like that, even if there's only a few units in it. Huge moment for Pikmin in Japan.

Hopefully it fares well in North America and continental Europe. The sales growth here in the UK wasn't all that high, all things considered; not a break out for the series over here. Amazing opening in Japan, though.

Kirby's over 6 million globally, and for the global total to compare, we would really need European markets to show huge growth for Pikmin. That hasn't happened in the UK, for example; growth of around 45% versus Pikmin 3 DX's launch.

Now sure, the UK was a spectacularly weak market for GameCube and Wii U and so Pikmin is extremely niche here, but one reason Kirby & the Forgotten Land did so well globally is it because it was something of a break through for the series in markets like the UK and across Europe.

North America could do some heavy lifting, for sure, and hopefully continental Europe is more favourable terrain for Pikmin than the UK. And, perhaps the game becomes a slow burn hit over the summer break?

I'd just caution against extrapolating similar global lifetime sales to 3D Kirby from this Japanese launch, strong as these domestic figures are.

holy shit, pikmin has become a huge seller in japan, this pretty much confirms 1mil+ in japan only and probably even 1.5mil. If north america doesn't disappoint we could see pikmin 4 go past 5mil doubling. Miyamoto has finally done it.

Pikmin may just become a bit of a word of mouth sort of game in these markets especially in some of the quieter months to follow for prevalent Switch releases.

The series it at its max potential in terms of pure accessibility thanks to the remaster, re-released and such. But for the longest time the games released on failed systems and has had a scattershot release schedule. So even minor growth has gotta be a win in the long run for this series.

fair enough I'd still assume the game will now safely beat 3 millions and inch towards 4 millions as the most conservative estimation as far as lifetime sales are concerned.

This is great for the PIkmin IP, and again encouraging to Nintendo to support some of their catalog that can find avenues to grow when the userbase is healthy and enthusiastic.

Pikmin is the new Final Fantasy. Can’t wait for the MMO and three game remake of Pikmin 1 (first game only takes place in Garden of Hope).

Oh sure, I think it'll easily be the best performing title in the series yet, and that Nintendo will be pleased with it going on to be a solid 3 to 4 million seller. It may do better than that, but matching Kirby's 6 million plus is a tall order.

Was worried about those Nobunaga numbers because previous games did 20K on both versions but I remembered Awakening in japan is just really shinsei with the power up pack and it was just a release becasue we finally getting it in the west

Kirby is in a unique position considering how regularly his games release. Imagine if Kirby had as sporadic a schedule as Pikmin for releasing stuff. How would that impact his mind-share?

The main reason Forgotten Land had such reach can be attributed to the regular attention Kirby receives. Expectations surely must be different for the two IP.

i'd like to say kirby's 6mil is probably gonna change to 7 or 8 eventually.

2mil is the expectation for pikmin 4 in japan i think.

I think Pikmin 4 also benefitted from being the first major Switch release since TOTK. A lot of people either bought a Switch to play TOTK or have been playing it/wrapping it up and Pikmin 4 caught their attention as the next game to play. Like I said in the other thread, really curious how it does internationally.

So Pikmin in a few days sold the same as FFXVI sold in a month?

Shit.
“This is fine”

(Yes there was way more sales potential for Pikmin 4 at this stage of game, but as I’ve said in previous threads FF lacks the multi-generational appeal that most of Nintendo’s franchises have.)

Wonderful to see Pikmin 4 doing so well in Japan, hope it translates to other countries as well. 5m+ could be achievable which would probably secure the series' future for a little while with a wider fanbase.

Pikmin 5 when?
2034 because patterns.

Seriously tho, with the amount of work put into Pikmin 4, I think they might just make an asset reusing direct sequel in ~4 years instead of going through the development hell or long time prototyping and pre-planning that 3 and specially 4 went through.

I think we might see Pikmin 5 by 2026-2028 rather than waiting another decade. A break through like this won't see the franchise getting cold again. Remember the amount of FE games that Nintendo released after Awakening success and then again after Three Houses/Heroes skyrocketing the franchise.

Shit them’s good Pikmin numbers. Please Japan save us from another decade of waiting - Pikmin 4 is so good.

Pikmin fans please forgive me for ignoring 2 and 3. I actually did buy 3 on Wii U but it didn’t really stick for me.

that actually exists. according to some posts on resetera, there was even someone from the Pikmin team on this game's design staff

In the field of "edgy Pikmin" there's also the Overlord series (no relation to the light novel).

Awesome to see Pikmin pulling those kinds of numbers

Really hoping we don't have to wait another ten years for Pikmin 5. At the very least, it showing up on the Switch successor at some point is a lock.

I find it ironic the only game in the series that limits your maximum Pikmin amount at the start is doing record breaking numbers at the launch.

So if you compare it with more than 100 milllion PS4 before PS5 come out, which AA games sold this many in it's last year ? Which AA PS4 games in 2020 (minus holiday 2020 for obvious reason) sold as many as this Pikmin 4 in the last year of Switch Gen 1 ? Pikmin 4 sold 3 or 4 million worldwide in it's 1st month is guaranteed
