It's still so amazing that Zelda is now a game that can do 1m+ retail at launch. It just goes to show that a series can make changes and evolve in a way that will appeal to new markets.

So 50% digital. Do we have digital/physical splits for other recent Nintendo games in Japan?
Only for launch weeks of hugely succesful games because Nintendo puts out PR to flex

Splatoon 3 opened with 1.93 million physical and 3.45 million total, digital ratio 44%
Pokemon Scarlet/Violet opened with 2.54 million physical and 4.05 million total, digital ratio 37%

Drop in Switch hardware itself is interesting. Figured it'd get a big bump but maybe the Zelda bundle releasing earlier than the game affected that.

i genuinely laughed at the nega-bump for switch hardware from tears, that's just way too funny man. i think the system'll peak out around 30 million

RIP those few thousand people who bought Breath of the Wild by accident
I doubt that was by accident. Being a sequel I'm sure there's plenty of people who want to play the first game and missed it originally.

Most of the evergreens are up and coming down from their Golden Week (and no doubt the Mario Movie launching during that period helped too) surge, but TotK pushed BotW even slightly higher while all the rest are trending downward.

Here's the two Golden Week numbers:

And here's the week before the madness starts:
