Really got into Monster Hunter Rise last year so consider my curiosity about Wild Hearts piqued. How do their gameplay styles compare? And hopefully ACG reviews it haha
They are pretty different imo. For starters, Wild Hearts seems easier as you can revive ppl in multuplayer. The weapons in WH I have looked at far seem to have different type of gameplay loops compared to rise. For example, Long Sword in WH you build up a meter in order to use the the weapon into a whip sword for a period of time. Bow, you do a bunch of horizontal shots that stick into the enemy and then you either do a Katakuri attack with the bow or you use a power up vertical shot to explode the arrows stuck in the monster.
Upgrading wise, I don't know fully as I don't have the full game but it looks like you have 1 skill tree that you can't reset. Where you go on the skill tree determines what your weapon evolves into. It can gain or lose abilities depending on where you go. I think you can sometimes inherit some of the previous abiilities one of your weapons had on the skill tree similar to Persona. For a made-up example, if you have a Water Bow that has an ability that increases your dodge and you decide to turn your Water Bow into a Lightning Bow on the skill tree, you would normally lose the Dodge ability the Water Bow gives. But I think there is an option for your to transfer the Dodge ability to the Lightning Bow if you so choose. If you don't like a weapon skill tree you did, if looks like you have to forge a new weapon, I could be wrong though, as again, I only played the trial.
The monsters are fun. I have noticed when fighting the Tusk, when huge burst damage occurs on him, he almost immediatley runs to another area. This may be a glitch fixed in Day 1 patch...but if not, I did not like chasing a monster to different areas that was almost deadd 6 times in a row.
The story progression is also better than MH. Ideally, future MH have this as well.
Of the MH-Clones, I have looked into. This is the best one so far, at least in the opening areas I have played.
