Welcome to the Awesome Games Done Quick 2024 thread! Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) is a long-running charity event where the speedrunning community comes together to raise money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. AGDQ 2024 will be running 24/7 from January 14th to 21st, livestreamed on Twitch.TV, featuring many speedrunners from all over the world running many of your favorite games. Viewers are invited to donate in order to unlock bonus games and events, or to enter in to raffles to win cool prizes. Games Done Quick has raised over 28 Million US Dollars for charity since its inception, making it the largest fundraising event for Prevent Cancer Foundation (and Doctors Without Borders)! This year AGDQ will be held online due to the on-going apocalypse.

Q: I really love Awesome Games Done Quick, but Twitch chat is awful! Where can I go to discuss the marathon free of spam, bigotry, and bad memes!?
A: We have a long running community which originally started as a private Twitch chat, and has since moved to Discord! Feel free to join us, just please read #info and familiarize yourself with the rules!

Q: WHAT THE HECK!? THEY’RE USING GLITCHES!
A: Speedrunning is the process of beating a game as fast as humanly possible! This includes the use of glitches. The number of glitches used varies by game, of course, and there are a variety of categories which each utilize different strategies. The schedule entry between the time slot and the system the game is being run on shows which category will be featured at AGDQ, including “any%”, which is beating the game as fast as possible without restrictions, and “glitchless” or “no major glitches” categories which disallow some or all glitches.

Q: Dang this is so cool! How can I watch more speedruns!?
A: The Games Done Quick Twitch channel hosts an increasingly varied number of events all year around. Other marathons (including European Speedrun Assembly, and a number of tournaments and community marathons) are regularly hosted all over Twitch. Simply searching for speedruns on Youtube, or glancing at the SpeedRuns.com leader boards will give you a host of awesome runs to watch.

Looking forward to this a lot. Last year’s SGDQ came early, so it’s been a bit of a wait for this. Only day I’m super busy so far is the Monday. Will have to look at the schedule soon and plan what I want to watch.

It's AGDQ time again!

Haven't looked at the schedule yet but GDQs are always a treat. I try to watch as much as I can :D

Shame I'm not off work for this one, but at least I can watch on my WFH days.

I feel like AGDQ sneaks up on me more and more each year. Monday is a holiday, so I’ll be able to catch quite a bit live this year.

Very happy to see a lot of very recent games (Starfield !) and also a Metroid Dread speedrun without any major glitch.

And the Awful Block is looking very fun (all hail Virtual Hydlide for coming back to GDQ !).

This intro sketch thing is pretty high quality. The fake ads are a special highlight. Great start to everything.

Does anyone have thoughts on the humble bundle associated with this?

Some great games in there, honestly. Bit of an eclectic mix.

Updated and added r/speedrun vod's thread. Been busy much of the day since I woke in the morning because my garage door was falling off the ceiling, and then had a frozen pipe issue at the kitchen sink. Both issues are resolved now thankfully, so hopefully I won't have any interruptions during GDQ!

Hey my donation just got read! I posted it way back during Tunic, so don't give up hope just because it's been 6 hours! lol

Cassette Beasts looks cool, been meaning to play that. Great run too.

Especially Corvimae saying free Palestine. Hope she doesn't get into trouble for that.

Watched my first run tonight with Pikmin 4, that was a lot of fun! Nothing too too wild, but just was satisfying to see and the runner was clearly having a good time.

Excited to watch the Paper Mario TTYD speedrun. It’s starting right now!

I've done a quick search and haven't found any Mario Maker relay races, but maybe I missed them? I like those a lot :)
No relays for either Maker or "Mario Maker Adjacent Fangames" this AGDQ but later in the week there's a Maker 2 glitch showcase ft. CarlSagan42.

Watching the TTYD run, I can't help but think that being able to clip through some cracks to go out of bounds is oddly fitting for a Paper Mario game

I really enjoyed the Paper Mario TTYD run! The new route was super interesting and I’m glad they skipped the terrible ticking timer from previous times lol. Most glad of course Flavio made his awesome return! Him and Frankly crashing all of the cutscenes was great fun.

As we approach the end, I have to say that this was probably the smoothest, best paced, most put-together GDQ has ever felt to me. Personal preference comes into play, but I feel like there was something I was interested in every evening. The schedule was consistent, so I was always confident in what I would see and when. They're new time cushioning strats seemed to work like a charm. Everything was just so good, probably the best marathon they've ever done, and I'm a longtime watcher.

I know none of them are super likely to see this, but just great job to the tech staff, organizers, runners, hosts, and everyone else! Can't wait for the next one.

Amazing end to the marathon with Zelda, Baldur’s Gate, and Final Fantasy V. Was super amazing they hit the 2.5 million right at the end. HOORAY!!!
