Rumour a japanese Twitter user has posted footage of what appears to be an unreleased Game & Watch version of Tetris.

they've also provided images of the unit itself.

this has been rumoured to exist for years, with the legend stating that it was canned to avoid cannibalizing sales of the Game Boy. there was even a few fakes made, like this mockup sourced from a french forum.

general evidence suggests the unit in the video is likely to be the real deal, as it's using the case design for Safebuster (released in 1988) as a placeholder. and it was likely drafted up fairly shortly after Nintendo acquired handheld rights to Tetris at the time.

As much as it would've been cool to see this in circulation, that was probably ultimately a good decision, tbh. Wasn't the 1989 Tetris the second best selling game ever after SMB until Pokémon Gen 1 dethroned it close to the turn of the century?
