So I've booked me and two family members in to see The Boy and the Heron at a really fancy cinema after Christmas. We're all really looking forward to it.

Only issue is... the only Studio Ghibli film I've seen is Spirited Away.

Figured I'd watch one tonight to make up for this crime-against-Letterboxd, but I'm just wondering... which one? Any help here would be very much appreciated.

I’d recommend Princess Mononoke for a more serious one, or Totoro for a classic more lighthearted one.

Christmas cookies have been accomplished! There are turkeys there too because… my nephew decided we needed turkey cookies 🤷‍♂️

Ghibli in general, or Miyazaki specifically? Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday are not by Miyazaki and more realistic than his films (save for The Wind Rises), but still truly excellent. Almost my Ghibli favourites, in fact. Maybe take a look at some short synopses and decide based on that?

Should I see The Boy and the Heron or Godzilla Minus One today? Wife wants to see Wonka and I have negative interest in that. Leaning Godzilla but I don't know anything about either
Godzilla’s my favourite movie I’ve seen in years, maybe even ever. Do not miss it!

It's the opposite for me; the holidays the past few years never felt very festive, but this year when my extended family has imploded is the first time I feel the holiday spirit.

Makes me wish Konami would include an update to their Arcade Anniversary Collection with this and Sunset Riders. Especially since Hamster were the ones behind that collection.

I have no idea what this means, but they're opening a Jersey Mike's close to my home. Should I try it out?
Arcade Anniversary Collection should also have Gradius III which was not included for reasons. Oh wait this is Konami we’re talking about.

As for Jersey Mike’s I dunno. Depends on what other sub chains you have in the area I guess. This isn’t exactly my forte these days.

Oh man that one

My best friend and I spent like half a day trying to figure that one out and pull it off one morning when we were like 7 or 8 years old. It's still one of the most memorable Mario 3 levels to me.
I vaguely remember reading through the Nintendo Power NES Atlas or SMB 3 strategy and seeing that fort and being WTF as a kid. Because that guide was all maps but no real information on how to progress through the levels when they got convoluted.

Also I remember recently wondering why they got rid of SMB 3 styled forts in 2D Mario and then it dawned on me that Ghost Houses pretty much supplanted them and the maze stages from SMB 1.

Wish Nintendo would salvage the Doctor Mario World assets to make a new game for Switch.

Pandemic: Mushroom Kingdom edition.

Miyazaki more specifically I'd say, yeah. I've decided to watch Mononoke, and it's great so far. Think I’ll aim to watch 3 or so more in the next week.

Totoro!

Hi, please permanently ban my account at the end of the year. Thanks!
if this is something that you want to do, you should open a ticket so you can talk to the staff directly and make your request.

its weird seeing the epic free game giveaways and just being like "okay". I don't have a good pc to even play the games but I could just make an account to claim em for later but I don't feel like it. it's weird. free shit that I'm indifferent to.

Nausicaä is pre-Ghibli but is Miyazaki and is well worth watching. I also love The Wind Rises and Spirited Away; Princess Mononoke is another fave but you're on that, which is grand.

"Watch Godzilla"
"No,watch the boy and the heron"
Me: The MS Excel World Championship 2023 finals has all the action and drama I need to see today

I fucking love something like this exists. Not gonna lie, watching the whole thing tomorrow.

I'd recommend Porco Rosso, personally I'm fond of that one since it was my first Ghibli movie.

"Core memory unlocked"

Man I remember playing this game a s a kid all the time. I'll happily throw them 3 bucks for it.
I don’t have any nostalgia for the games, aside from seeing coverage of the Lynx port. But if I recall correctly, it’s taken a while for Chuck (the original designer) to get the rights back or something. There was also an unreleased sequel that finally got released along with a spiritual successor called Chuck’s Challenge.

It’s not just you. I stopped picking up games that were being given away (or bundled) years ago because I didn’t want to keep growing my backlog with stuff I was never going to get to or was picked up because “it was a good deal”.

Recently started researching dojinshi fighting games. There is a complete new world of games for me to explore!

No shit. I won an Excel competition in high school. It is objectively my peak achievement.

One of the little grate thingies in my OG switch vent broke…still works but worried the casing isn’t going to be long for the world if it happens just from normal use. Announce switch 2 please so I hopefully can just get that

I might be incapable of beating a Soulsborne but I can sometimes get tiny children to sleep in a hotel room.
I taught a dog to respond to casual human speech and I too am incapable of beating a Soulsborne.

Soulsbornes are rough.

What is this wizardry? I too need a fan but the wife gets pretty upset in the winter having it on (even though she keeps the house at 64 or lower)
Is she a big N64 fan? What does she think will come to NSO next year? I'm sitting here holding my breath for Snowboard Kids and Rayman 2.

my trick is an app that makes my phone sound like a box fan because i’m a sicko who can’t sleep without a fan
See, at home I don't mind when the heat/AC kicks in, because that's good background noise, but in hotel rooms, those blowers are the loudest things ever.

In the nintendo winter sale I saw that a game called Grim Legends 3 was 2 dollars. I looked at the trailer and it reminded me of the old PC disk that Walmart or a big store would sale for like 3$ where you look for items in a particular setting and that advances the plot.

I bought it, there are even cutscenes, but the "mo-cap" if we can call it that reminds me of those weird AI faces lol.
