Discussion Scott Pilgrim Anime gets a trailer, a title, and a release date!! UPDATE: Now Streaming!!

O'Malley confirming they're using the extra runtime to delve more into Ramona's story (and all the other characters') since the movie had to rush through and focused on Scott as a result.
That's great news. I liked the movie a lot but compared to the comics, a lot of characters kind of get the short end of the stick and come off as a bit unsympathetic in comparison (especially Knifes suffers from this, imho). Really looking forward to the show :D

I shouldn't be watching Pluto. It's giving me hope in the possibility that Scott Pilgrim could be eight hour-long episodes instead of the assumed 20-min long 👀

The official Twitter account for Sience Sary is doing a countdown:

The new trailer helps assuage my fears that they won't just speedrun the story and will have some of the smaller and more lowkey moments from the comic.

Yeah the trailer I think was showing a bit of what O'Malley said about there being more from Ramona's perspective this time around, which I think is great.

Also someone at some point said "everyone's doing their normal voice except Micheal Cera who's doing an anime dub voice" and I can't unhear the difference with every single thing they show 😅

There was a panel for the anime at NYCC a few days ago!

This is an article covering some of the panel. The URL unfurl is acting weird for this page so just click this link. 😅

Some of my favorite takeaways from that article are regarding the story, with O'Malley confirming they're using the extra runtime to delve more into Ramona's story (and all the other characters') since the movie had to rush through and focused on Scott as a result. Also reiterating that the series won't be a word-for-word translation of the books or the movie, and will be its own thing.

Also saw something on reddit from someone who attended, and they shared a lot more details from the panel (which I hope gets posted in video form soon):

My favorite bits from that (not the most important, just my favorite) are that Blake Lively is directing a film adaptation of O'Malley's book Seconds (his next big work after Scott Pilgrim), and that the person shouting "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off!" in the Mortal Kombat inspired trailer theme is actually the original Mortal Kombat shout guy!!!!!!

Some good Pilgrim info landing, yall.

Rewatching the trailer after learning about the MK voice actor screaming "SCOTT PILGRIM TAKES OFF", I don't know how I could get even bigger chills but man I am so stoked

My brain is just wired on Scott Pilgrim. The hype is getting unreasonably strong.
I made the mistake of asking some friends (big fans of the books and movie) if they wanna binge it together, and they said yes and that they'll figure out a day that works, then after the fact I found out they're busy this weekend.

So I dunno when I'm gonna get to see it and that makes the hype hit me even harder somehow? 😅

Now I'm watching Blue Eye Samurai, yet another Netflix anime which, like Pluto, is giving me unrealistic hopes about eight *double-length" episodes.

Is it possible? Dare we hope?

Unrelated but Pluto Episodes are just too long. I wish they would have split them up more. Especially in the first two episodes pacing was just way off with having like 5 dragged out subplots per episode.

Scott Pilgrim on the other hand could go 4 four hours per episode and I‘d still not be satisfied.

Are reviews supposed to come out before it drops?
I don't remember where I found the Tweet where it was claimed, but the reviews will apparently drop exactly when the show becomes available.

So basically trust me bro.

O'Malley confirmed the series is rated TV-MA solely because of Julie Powers 🤣

Here's a reddit thread where people who have seen the first 3 episodes talk about it in a non specific manner. They're very excited:

Okay there is what I would consider a pretty big spoiler in there so be careful people 😅

Halfish-hour episodes means my binging party will be easier for everyone to stomach, but ngl I wanted 40min episodes like bad 😅

After talking with some Canadian friends about how "Toronto" is pronounced and also hearing them talk about it during the recent SP panel, it suddenly makes so much more sense why Scott blows up at Todd Ingram's line of "Fun? in Toronto?"

Because he pronounced both T's

Ain't supposed to do that

Welp

I put together a little binging party with my friends but they aren't available till next weekend

So that's seven days of suffering I must endure

One day for each evil ex.

So since there are apparently some pretty serious spoilers O'Malley has been warning about (at least three different interviews have him telling people to stay off the internet until they've seen the show because there's some stuff in this series) and I'm gonna be holding true to my watch party that's in a week, I'm probably gonna bow out of anything Pilgrim-related here for a while.

@Maronic03 you got it from here, yeah? 😅

I completely loved this.

It has a few flaws (could've used 10 or so more minutes per episode or a few more episodes altogether to flesh out the characters more which is less of a problem if you're familiar with the source material), but it's on one hand a celebration of Scott Pilgrim, and on the other a simultaneous embrace and response to the subtext of several critical readings that have been made about this franchise over the years.

It's going to be very divisive among fans who simply wanted a more faithful adaptation (I can't deny some part of me is a little disappointed that's not what we got), but this serviced me in a completely different way -- especially as someone who particularly finds Ramona's character and her relationship with Scott to be the most compelling thing about this franchise.

Okay so no spoilers please but
I am at least aware that they did a pretty drastic departure in the plot that's got people torn. I don't know what they did, don't wanna know, but please please please tell me it's at least done organically as the series just being its own story and is not some Age of Calamity or FFVII-R timey-wimey interference stuff 🙏

I think this is impossible to answer without spoilers lol
