StarTopic Monolith Soft Development and Speculation |ST|

Man I am so eagerly awaiting new on MonolithSofts next game.
I was really hoping we would see something in the last Direct.
But hope fully it will be in the first Direct of 2022.

With all the Nintendo news since the September direct, my only disappointment is not seeing Xenoblade 3.

I can forgive it, though, as I know in my heart that it'll be ready for a spring release. It has to be.

Here's hoping it'll continue the trajectory of 2's sales and will bring the series to Persona popularity.

Also, I am convinced Xenoblade X will get a port, the only question in my mind is if they'll port it to the Switch after Xeno 3, or if they'll make a Definitive Edition for the successor.

Imagine Mira in 4k...
I'd definitely prefer a Definitive Edition on the next system. X could use a lot of QoL features.

I agree. One that I can think if immediately would be the ability to call squad mates to the BLADE headquarters to have them join your party instead of looking for them on foot.

It's one of many improvements I'd welcome.

I do hope they keep the ending though, as I want a full sequel. I don't think a Future Connected scenario type would be enough to bring the story to a conclusion.

Hi everyone! New to the forum, soooo excited to see what Monolith Soft is cooking. I love making high quality GIFs so you'll occasionally see me posting them. For example, I couldn't find a high quality GIF of their logo for hype moments and anticipation, so I made one!

I apologise if I sound annoying but good lord, I wish Torna looked that GOOD in handheld mode.

The last time we had a January Direct was 2015 so I wouldn’t count on it. We had a Mini in 2018 and the Switch Presentation in 2017.

I agree. I think January Directs are a thing of the past and now it will be February instead. 3 general Directs a year: February, June (E3) and September before TGS.

Although we did have a Direct in March in 2018 but that was due to the Mini Direct in January.

So, this is kinda unrelated to this thread's usual focus, but are there any recommendations for the title of the Xeno Community ST? I have mostly finished working on it; all that is left is proof-reading. I have a title I can use if no-one has any ideas, but I thought I'd ask around now that the thread is approaching its final stages.

Please let Yasuyuki Honne make another game with those beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds. It doesn't have to be Baten Kaitos. He has expressed interest in doing something original with their Kyoto studio in 2018 and they'd be perfect for a spiritual successor to BK.
The style present in the Baten Kaito games would be a welcome addition, for sure. Though there's no guarantee how the market would react, a project with those gorgeous backgrounds is definitely something I'd like to see.

I would really like a Baten Kaitos Trilogy, but I also think a wholly new project would be very desirable (and probably more likely).
¿Por qué no los dos?

Or diorama backgrounds like Fantasian. ❤️
This could also be amazing, and I suspect the skill for it is also present.
¿Por qué no los tres?

I really would like something different that the traditional JRPG from Monolith. I feel like they’re too talented to be stuck to Xenoblade. They’ve done different kinds of IP’s in the past. Let them diverse.

I love this meme and admire your dedication to it.

Also I believe the skill is still present. IIRC, Honne hand-built a diorama of the Bionis and Mechonis as a way to illustrate for Iwata what they wanted to build in Xenoblade. I bet he'd jump at the chance to do more work like that for a game.

I would love for this to happen.

When was the last time we got a big budget JRPG with fixed-camera/pre-rendered backgrounds? Lost Odyssey in 2007? That kind of JRPG really needs a comeback.

The other Xenoblade titles on Switch had a 8 to 10 month reveal to release window. If we assume a similar marketing cycle for Xenoblade 3, then a reveal in early 2022 would be highly likely.

Of course, there's no fixed rule that says Xenoblade games have to have that kind of marketing cycle. But personally I suspect we'll see it in February.

Yeah it's been ages. I'm not even asking for something big budget, something like Bravely Default 2 with non-chibified models and Honne's style would be enough.

If XB3 is a 2022 release, this will be one of the most jampacked Nintendo years of all time.

I need a midtier medieval jrpg from them with a brilliant but non-convoluted gameplay system for me to consider them a real jrpg powerhouse.

The future scient-sword tech wave isn't it.

I just want something from them that embodies the Nintendo "easy to play, hard to master" dynamic.
Nothing I've played has given me that.

This is my new home :)

My guess is a XB3 (Or whatever Monolith has cooking up next) reveal in a Feb direct for a fall release. I can see it being summer, but I feel they'll go a similar route as XB2.

I suspect so as well, and I'd love to see that happen. Those titles would certainly have their own distinct identities.

And his expressed interest gives me hope. It would be a fine addition to these larger titles.

These really probably wouldn't need an exorbitant budget to shine, and that's part of what makes the prospect so compelling.

We will see XC3 in the next direct for sure. I'm excited.

I always welcome GIFs of Monolith Soft's amazing environments.

So what's the suspected turnaround on this game gonna be? Reveal in H1 Direct, release in Fall/Winter 2022?

Anything past that and it seems a bit crammed, though I guess Dread shows it could be held off until E3.

Yes, that’s the overall consensus. Reveal in the Feb Direct and released fall/holiday 2022.

Considering how XC2's unbelievablly beautiful art and visuals were butchered pretty badly by the Switch, I can't help but hope they hold out for 2023 and the Switch 2 / Switch Pro.

Or that if they don't, it gets a resolution boost once the new machine is out.

I mean, I remember at launch playing XC2 and already begging for a Switch Pro, lol. Four years on and a similar level of IQ (image quality) would be unbearable.

I felt Torna was a major step up in that regard - while I think XC games would look much better with better hardware, there’s also time constraint to consider when you look at XC2.

They should just crank down the effects a bit to make for a better IQ.
And as @JustALurker said, XC2 had time constrained and not enough developer. They were spread thin because of BotW. But now they have way more people at Monolith Soft and they don't have to hurry that much.

I just want my XC3 and I want it yesterday!!!! :(

...

In all seriousness though Monolith hasn't worked on XC2 with many of their developers. This time is different. So considering they probably have been at it since 2018 I expect something good.

I would be a bit bummed if it turned out to be February Direct Reveal and Holiday 2022 release though. I hoped we would get it by May 2022, kind of like XC Definitive Edition. That hope was already waning when it wasn't revealed in the last Direct but I still WANT it that way lol. Especially since Holiday time is packed with new games usually and I need something to play in Winter-Fall too. Plus Trails from Zero is scheduled for late 2022, something else I really wanna play and that will eat an enormous amount of hours...

Ah well. It happens when it happens.

EDIT: I've looked through the staff list for Pokemon Legends Arceus and Monolith Soft doesn't appear to be listed anywhere.

Also since I'm seeing a particular claim float around a bit I feel like this should be addressed: Monolith Soft wasn't involved with Pokemon Sword and Shield.

If Monolith Soft assists on a game at all, it should get added to their website's game history page after the game comes out and the studio should be listed somewhere in the game's credits (usually Special Thanks). Neither of these things happened with Sword and Shield.

Probably the help comes from the Zelda team in Tokyo (the second unit), since my guess is that the help is with the map/"open world" like they did for Breath of the Wild in the past.

Seems like there's finally a bit of news with the rumor/leak about Monolith Soft assisting on Pokemon Legends Arceus in some fashion. If it's true, Monolith Soft should have some listing in the game's credits (usually Special Thanks) and the game should be added to Monolith's list of games on their website. One question is if the Tokyo studio, the Kyoto studio, or both studios assisted on Legends. The only games the Tokyo studio has assisted on since the creation of the Kyoto studio are Breath of the Wild and presumably its sequel, but if Monolith is involved with Legends we probably won't know which studio assisted on it until the staff list is public.

Hey everybody, new member here! Finally had some time to play through Xenoblade 2 and am just about to the end now. So excited to see where things go from here.

"Here's your medieval action RPG bro"

then it might indeed been an advisory "here's some tips" kinda role
Or the person who made the claim was just wrong =p

One or two friends told me yesterday that the leaks mentioned Monolith Soft being involved, but now I'm hearing the account that made that claim this week isn't particularly reliable. I don't want to look into it right now because I've been trying to avoid leaks for Legends Arceus in general (I only wanted to see the staff list).

I think it’s easy to just say ‘Monolith Soft helped’ at this point. They help so frequently and people can’t be bothered to check.

I saw a Twitter thread today based on the tweet and someone was like ‘see, this is why Xenoblade 3 won’t be out this year‘ - and they weren’t joking.

The internet makes my head hurt.

It's always best to avoid the subject of a "leak" on Twitter. There's no escaping how fast the misinformation will spread, and everyone's takes on it.

Makes sense, considering Splatoon 3 is around the corner. It made more sense to me that would be the game they were helping with.
