Zelda is the only example where that aplies tho.
Zelda is also one of the few times where they've done such a direct sequel

we just got Splatoon 3 so I'm hoping, maybe in vain, that we get something else

idk at this point I'm also confident we won't get Odyssey 2 but I concede that's not based on anything other than my belief in new experiences for a new platform

maybe I put my conclusion ahead of "evidence," but for me said conclusion is assumed and botw2 was the obstacle to it when it was thought hardware could come alongside it, if that makes sense

making a bunch of "(Switch game) 2" software would reflect poorly on the platform, and thankfully with Tears of the Kingdom in the rearview mirror I'm comfortable saying we're out of the woods

new platform, new ideas

Well, If you give me a Switch2 exclusive update adding Ray Tracing to Totk, I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

It's not necessarily about having new ideas, it could be about bringing something new, something fresh to experience. Mario Kart 8 is a WiiU game, and a Switch system seller...

If the twist is powerfull enough on the NS2, they totally can sell a "wow" factor on that.

I just want the sports games to be better next gen. We probably won’t get any announced until 2025, but Nintendo needs to do better with their content. Sports games has been the worst area of games for Nintendo.

I think the vast majority of people don’t expect Odyssey 2. It was a one and done like many Mario games. I think in terms of pure sequels we get next gen it’ll be RFA2 and NSS2.

Metroid 6 is expected and Pikmin 5.

What I like about EPD4 is that they are full of new and innovative ideas: Miitopia, 1-2 Switch, Nintendo Labo, Ring Fit Adventure, Game Builder Garage.
I just want them to show us what they can do with the new hardware and with new IP. They will be able to work on RFA2 and Switch Sports + later.
What's great about the first year of the Switch is that we got some brand new IPs with Snipperclips, 1-2 Switch, Arms (and Mario+Rabbids). I want the same thing with the new system.

Did someone say NST?

Where's my arcade racers? Nintendo makes the best ones where you interact with the physics of the tracks in waverace and 1080.

The only other racers I can think of where physics play such a role are rally racers.

Waverace BS is still the best arcade racer in existence, and I fire up the gamecube to play it all the time. Once you do the time trials and unlock all the weather modes, you can hit bottom the waves get so insane.

Dig these guys up... I know racers don't sell that well, but I bet they could make a new one with a small team.

It couldn't hurt to throw 1080 at them again too. Great racer that people confused for a bad SSX. Let's get some arcade racers besides derpy kart games please!! <3

If the system has backwards compatibility (it will), they won't be able to sell Switch ports. Wii U to Switch ports were an entirely different situation. That was a system with a very small install base, and due to major differences in design, Switch couldn't run Wii U games.

Yeah, Odyssey 2 is just too far gone. It's like people in 2017 talking about Galaxy 3.

It still could happen tbf, It honestly could be the perfect summer 2024 game.
It’s honestly too late in the Switch 1’s life for something as big as RFA2.

Launching in the middle of post-release support is actually preferable, because that makes it simpler to launch a next gen patch.
Splatoon 3 updates will likely already be over by the time the Switch 2 launches (Sizzle Season 2024 being the presumed last content drop).

Not really, they probably have unsold stock for the Ring-Con anyway so why not try sell the remaining left with a new game. Switch 2 probably won't have same controller size or shape.

Given Nintendo's own philosophy and what they told Ubisoft re: Mario + Rabbids 2, RFA seems like the kind of game IP that is best suited to a new entry once per console.

That being said, I really hope it allows the option to download digitally for those of us who already have ring-cons and the leg strap. If ever there were a game I wish I didn't need to swap game cards not called Animal Crossing, it's that one

I don't know man, we could end up in situations where there is a Switch 1 Version and a Switch 2 Version, and the latter showcasing the technology the new device brings.

Like you can totally play Links Awakening on the GameBoyColor, but Links Awakening DX is also available. And anyway, SIE games tells us a whole different story, remakes on PS5 are quite successfull even when available on their original state on the same console...

I would obviously like fresh titles for my Switch 2, but there are reasons why it would make sense for them to just reach for the easy ports.
Any online games would benefit being on a more network capable device. Any reflex based system would benefit on simply being added more frames.

And obviously here and there, an upgrade could bring interesting enough changes just to justify a "Deluxe" version on Switch 2. I would like to see myself explore in the shadows in Tears of the Kingdom if Ray Tracing is made available. Bayonetta 3 with a biffer screen an better performance would probably feel less blurry + the game could use a better balance...

Not to mention every third party that could use a powerbump, like Mortal Kombat 1 recently... Switch 1 would still be available, but frankly a Switch 2 version would just make a lot of sense.

you joke but there is at least one person in the old thread who believes this thing won't have nintendo games

1-2 Switch may not be very good but it is based and that's what matters

sorry gamers but Nintendo will remain based and will continue to try things you may not like

But they can sell next Gen upgrade 👀

The main problem with switch sport and Mario tennis/charged/golf is the amount of content/mode imho. An expansion with more content and next gen upgrade would be a win win.

Just remaster Toadstool Tour and Power Tennis.
Ah, time for an unsolicited hot take.

I don't like Power Tennis! Like, not at all! The titular power moves pop way too often and take away from the purity of the N64 game. I also hate the gimmick courts that became a staple of the series after this game. Just let me play tennis with fun characters; I don't want to avoid claptraps or try and hit on the correct side of a mast.

I also refused to play Mario Baseball at any venue other than Mario Stadium.

There's a very clear answer for a new, innovative title in a long-dormant series to showcase the power of the next-gen Switch, and it's an extremely obvious one:

Make a new Endless Ocean game, you cowards. Let me chill in a beautiful ocean and look at some aquatic life.

I advocated for this one a lot in the "2022 for sure" days. It'd be perfect

Ring Fit is the type of game that’ll sell the same regardless of what console it’s on. Whether it’s the final game for the Switch, or the launch title for Switch 2, or anything else, I’d expect it to sell about the same.

It’d probably be cross-gen anyway.

Splatoon 3 is actually one of the few things that makes me consider mid-to-late 2025
I really don't get this mindset. Nintendo always has some sort of DLC/general post-release support run going on. It's going to collide with something, and any game caught up in such a situation is a perfect candidate for a next gen patch.

In my case it's not to stay out of its update path or anything like that but instead to reduce the time between system launch and it getting its own Splatoon

They're not going to delay the launch of the Switch 2 to get an original Splatoon on the system earlier in it's life, they have plenty of other exclusives that sell gangbusters. Besides that wouldn't even be doing anything productive, Splatoon 4 is going to be a ways off whether or not they delay the hardware, it would just be delaying the hardware for no reason.

They will need a mighty next gen patch to make me okay with Splatoon 3 being the standard bearer for the series going forward.

it's not about the system, it's about Splatoon!

All I need for the next mario tennis is the same gamplay as aces but more courts, characters and game modes out the gate

How would Splatoon 4's release date change by delaying Switch 2?
huh??? I'm not talking about a delay, I'm talking about my guess

in this line of thinking it would have always been intended for, say, September 2025 as part of the same release strategy that delivered us a new Splatoon for Switch 1 in 2022

Honestly I wish Mario sports games had less content.

I'll elaborate later. For now, children beckon me to talk about numbers. Good day!

Nah, they won't turn Splatoon 3 into a games as a service.

They'll finish the DLC, probably release a next gen patch so the game runs pretty and nice on Switch 2, then get to work on Splatoon 4.

Splatoon 4 in 2026?

alright, I don't get it, but I won't pretend to get it. How about that? 🤝
