Rumour Eurogamer: "Nintendo demoed Switch 2 to developers at Gamescom ahead of widely-expected launch next year."

I think ever since they showed off the WiiMote at TGS, they have a silent agreement with them to not show anything anymore there?
Yeah could very well be. It is unlikely for Nintendo to show anything at TGS, but a Switch 2 Direct is probably not far off if they chose behind closed door sessions at Gamescom. If I recall correctly the Switch reveal was in October.

Then again, a full blown reveal this year most probably cannibalize holiday sales this year. I do think Nintendo will share a little piece on the successor this year, with a full reveal next year.

I would be skeptical with the UE5 demo part. I believe its true but its more comparable to when they showcase TegraX1 running UE4 demo and comparing it with PS4. Can current portable PC devices like Steam Deck run it?

Otherwise, yes, apparently this time Nintendo has prepared a very capable HW that will encourage third party partner to bring their current gen titles asap.

I wouldn't fix on the DLSS number/version piece of info. We know it'll have DLSS and given the nintendo/nvidia relationship you can bet Nintendo will get something tailored to their needs, so the most up to date version for their spec'/needs.

I always love the “Nintendo will go after insiders” yet all these publications keep putting stuff out on the Switch 2. They did it for switch and what do you know they’re all still around

They go after insiders doesnt mean they go after journos, they're not under NDA here. ^^

They go after the people that talked to the journos.

Yo if this new hardware runs that Matrix demo at a respectable frame rate this hardware is going to be a treat

DLSS 3.5 is working on older RTX cards, so that may even technically come true. However, nothing juicy is being reported on DLSS or even ray-tracing. Therefore I remain sceptical that Switch has any tensor cores.

This is all very exciting, this sounds more technologically advanced over the OG Switch than we first thought right? DLSS 3.5 wasn’t expected for starters?
In line with Nvidia's outstanding names, DLSS 3.5 is not DLSS 3.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/nvidia-dlss-3-5-ray-reconstruction/ Its purely for ray tacing, not frame reconstruction, thats every other version of DLSS starting with a 3.

"GeForce RTX 40 Series users can combine Super Resolution and Frame Generation with Ray Reconstruction for breathtaking performance and image quality, while GeForce RTX 20 and 30 Series users can add Ray Reconstruction to their AI-powered arsenal alongside Super Resolution and DLAA."

Of course, 3.5 also comes with upgrades to stuff like frame generation to make things even more confusing.

With that said, DLSS 3.5 was announced at the exact same event, so Nintendo already having running demos with it IS really exciting as it implies to me support when it was in doubt before.

I know that. Clearly nobody has a problem because they keep telling Eurogamer, VGC, Nate things over and over.

Well it also comes down how well the journos protect their sources. This can go for lengths.

Just because people still talk to journos doesn't mean Nintendo isn't actively trying hard to come after them. ^^

I’m way more excited about them showing UE5 tech demos than upscaling or ray-tracing. Hopefully the new hardware handles UE5 very well because UE4 performance on the current system has been really inconsistent.
The irony is that UE5 is ray tracing amd upscaling based

and still isn't, they removed that mention in the article
Ray reconstruction is expected to be there. Frame Gen isn't

Comparable can mean that it looks close to the PS5/XBSX version while running on lighter settings like lower textures, shadows, lightning and more.

UE5 is probably better optimized for mobile SoC’s like Drake than UE4 was for Switch

What’s that have to do with you, unless you’re Jez?
My point was that the public knew from Jez on the 29th that Nintendo had showed something at GamesCom. Which means info on the content of the demo was floating around since the 27th at the very latest. It took almost two weeks for it to be made public by journos.

I'm really hoping that Platinum Games is preparing Astral Chain 2 for launch window. If they improve upon the original formula with slightly better graphics and highly improved performance then that would be one of the best games on Switch 2 already.

While we don't have anything specific, it does seem likely that Nintendo are trying to keep some kind of parity with current gen, which does make sense if they want to keep the ports coming. Something just below the Series S in terms of raw power would probably suit their needs quite nicely.

Yeah, if Nintendo needs to showcase the graphical capabilities of the system, they need to have new Monolith and Next Level games there as soon as possible. BotW won't do the job, that's basically Wii U level game 2 generations behind. EPD stuff also aren't known to push the limits. They really need to have Luigi's Mansion 4 and Xenoblade 4 (or a start of a new series) at the reveal event.

VGC saying Matrix was seen running on it makes it seems like bullshit tbh. I’ll need to see it to believe.

Sounds good, I can def see Nintendo showing off enhanced BOTW/TOTK for the Switch 2 reveal
Nintendo hasn't shown off a new home console system without a Zelda game or tech demo.
N64 had Ocarina of time, Gamecube had that Link vs. Ganondorf video, Wii had Twilight Princess, Wii U had the spider video, Switch had BOTW.
They know the wide appeal of the series

Exciting stuff, even if VGC have since amended that DLSS 3.5 mention.

Not that I know what all of these terms mean.

I’ve messed around with breath of the wild on pc (Dumped my own rom!) and it really is a transformative experience especially at 60 fps. The higher resolution really helps to highlight the great art. Enhanced ports of those games would be a great way to start those systems life cycles

If DLSS black magic can get it within spitting distance of the Series S, there could be an interesting symbiosis there.

With Series S being the lowest-specced "current-gen" console that devs have been optimizing for, then it might be that much easier to adjust their targets a bit more to account for Switch 2. And likewise, if Switch 2 takes off like the Switch did, then we might see more developers willing to put in the work to optimize their games for lower-end hardware to get a slice of that Switch 2 pie, rather than grumbling behind the scenes and looking to cut things out of the S version like we saw happen with Baldur's Gate 3.

Getting wildly optimistic, maybe between the two we'd see enough of a market carved out for the lower-end side of the generation that devs actually have to rein in the bloat and scope of their games rather than putting out messes they expect a PS5 Pro or Series XX to just brute force into decent performance in a few years, which sorta seems to be where things are headed currently.

Steam Deck probably couldn't run it well. But the software improvements, and especially DLSS, along with frame injection create so much overhead, especially on a console where they can specifically optimize for it. Imagine you can run a game at 240p, 360p or 480p and then you get a relatively clean, and clear 4K image.

If they do frame injection, you can literally have a game running 30 or 40 fps at 60.

The future of gaming is not with hardware improvements, it's actually software.

WOW if Switch sucessor can run the Matrix demo with visuals comparable to current gen consoles, imagine how the next 3D Mario could look, they having visuals comparable to it movie,Metroid Prime 4 would look amazing on Nintendo next hardware.
