Rumour Switch 2 devkits information from Im A Hero Too - backward compatibility, camera sensor, new cartridge format, Atlus/Sega and Square support

I really hope that rumoured camera system is for some sorter of IR pointer like the Wii, there are quite a few games that still play better on the wii due to the pointer being a lot more precise than the tech in the current joy cons

For the record: FF7R looking like a PS5 game on Switch 2 lines up with what the voices in my head have been telling me.
It also makes sense from a technological perspective. When you suddenly have the ability to run a game below 720p, but have the final image being a perfect 4K using DLSS, and can plan and specifically optimize for that feature, change texture quality, etc. You are going to make games that match their PS5 counterparts, especially if they can somehow feed the ai reference images from the PS5. Having DLSS as a feature that you can optimize will honestly give developers a way to even push the Switch 2 harder than the big consoles. Without visual quality being an issue, and not having to create 4K textures, think about how much that can free up gameplay wise.

I'm not gonna edit out my brainfart post from my first post to see how many actually comments on it.

It'll be my friday entertainment.

Shit I will double dip for the FF7R.

That was the most hype part for me

I would be very cautious with the PS5 comment. Ignoring biases the leaker might have, I can imagine that thanks to modern technology like DLSS trickery and having some form of Global illumination, games look way better than the actual power of the hardware would suggest. Also don't forget that there are many more devs now that have experience now to port games to a lower end hardware like a Switch. Recent PS4 to Switch ports also look better than expected (if well done). But I am very curious. If this next Switch could technically run any game without too much effort to port and most of them at least "feel" like they run comparable to a PS5 game, the other consoles would get some serious competition. This could essentially change up the hardcore console market to some extend.

This guy is reliable?

Yes. Previously talked about the multi-platform releases of the Persona games, and the Persona 3 Remake way ahead of their announcements (and also leaked screenshot of the latter).

DLSS is like black magic, making games look generations ahead

Yup, but I find it interesting that all the rumors are "realistic", he is not saying unrealistic things.
That is a bit of a conundrum because many people want to say they’re an insider. They make guesses, but the guesses are relatively safe and when it happens folks will believe they knew stuff. In actuality they didn’t know and got lucky by being safe.

3ds has a new cartridge and you can use ds games
And ds with gba and gba with gb, no idea why that detail keeps tripping people up.

(Note: not saying for absolute certain it is backwards compatible but a new cartridge format certainly doesn't deconfirm it lol)

Switch 1 ran Skyrim and Assassin's Creed Black Flag 'close to' the PS4 version. In both instances the Switch version was 900p/30 while the PS4 versions were 1080p/30, with similar visual fidelity. So the Switch 2 running last-gen ports at close to current-gen base console image quality - with the help of DLSS - is not only unsurprising, there's precedent. Especially with diminishing returns on resolution i.e. at a large enough viewing distance it's difficult to discern 1440p vs. 2160p well. I'd actually be interested in the framerate, as FF7R has performance and resolution modes.

Extra buttons and color screens were added because the ambition and complexity of the games increased, because of more hardware power. The SNES and GBA are at the end of the day, NES2 and GB2. We accept the PS5 and PS4 as more powerful PlayStations, even though they added extra inputs like adaptive triggers and touchpads. Extra buttons doesn't suddenly change the premise of the console.

The point is the idea that Nintendo would 'never' do this, which isn't true.

The Switch already has 'gimmicks' like the IR sensor built in or as peripherals like Ring Fit and LABO. A stronger Switch can add as many gimmicks as it wants but at the end of the day is still a Switch with more power, because the Switch brand is defined by its multitude of hardware features. Switch 2 having a camera or touchpads wouldn't change that it's a hybrid console.

I would be careful to call something a gimmick.

They said the wii motes where gimmick. Still they are now used for all Vr devices.

You will not call an anolog a gimmick when it was released after the dpad.

Every functionality has it's purpose.
Such as keyboard and mouse rules over gamepad for fps games. Or tilt sensor in gamepad are way better for accuracy as gamepads without it.

For the switch, the hybrid is the new thing. I'm curious what the next one will be.

I will buy FF7R just to provide a reason for them to want to port the rest of FF7R to the Switch.

Also if this is true I really hope Persona 3 Reload comes around launch

It's just a brightness sensor, not really a camera, and not usable by devs.

Era "confirms" leakers. "I'm a Hero" was a regular and accurate Atlus related leaker, confirmed over there, before vanishing. An impersonator cropped up on Reddit, so Hero created a new account, and began the confirmation process a second time, just to shut down said impersonator, and dropped a few tidbits along the way.

It seems likely this really is Hero, and Hero has been reliable in the past.
I think Hero never actually got verified by the mod team. And tbh, after the whole "Silent Hill by Japan Studio" shitshow, it doesn't actually mean a lot if they were

This leak makes way too much sense. We’ve already heard about the likelihood of new cartridge formats from Nate/MVG. P3/FF7R are pretty obvious gets to anyone paying attention to the shitshow that has been PS in JP for the last 3-4 years. Plus the fact that RPGs on a portable just works really really well for people.

If the Switch 2 is getting P3R and FF7R then that’s a hell of a way to make a statement lol
So Nintendo’s JP chart domination will go from 90% to something like 95%?

Credit to MS for all but pulling this stunt already this year

Really the big question ought to be who initiated the ports if this is true. Did NoJ go to SE/Atlus or did they ask for devkits first?

I would be careful to call something a gimmick.
I didn't call anything like the Wiimotes or analog stick gimmicks. I put 'gimmick' in quotes anyway, I don't agree with what a lot of people say, that they are simply attention-grabbing novelties.

I really find the FF7R visual impressions to be fishy, not so much about looking similar to the PS5 version but the "it took no time at all" claim.

Like, really? lol

Relatively speaking I guess? It running on Unreal Engine 4 does help of course.

I don't know, this person was sure that P3R was a fall 2023 game. Not sure that I trust.

But FF7R on Switch successor is a no brainer. Square ain't gonna port a forgotten entry like FF15 while they have a more recent game in their hand.

I don’t know why anyone gives this guy the attention he so desperately craves. He got 1 thing right about Atlus and Persona and suddenly he has information about dozens of different projects that one single person would never have knowledge of, but yet he was still putting it all out there.

As soon as people started poking holes in his story he closed his account. The guy isn’t trustworthy and everything in his “leak” should be taken with the utmost grain of salt.

Saying FF7R looks closer to the PS5 version but not saying it actually is the Intergrade version has me skeptical if it would include the Yuffie campaign or not

I mean looking at the reported Persona games it seems to be 6 & a party game with P3R nowhere in sight. Not really gonna be surprised if it is indeed the party game at launch instead.

I'm a believer. I knew what to expect, and that Nintendo probably wouldn't do anything too out-of-the-ordinary.

Anyway I'm off.

Have a great weekend everyone!

New cartridge format but still backwards compatible?

Maybe I am just reading too much in to this but that makes me a wee bit nervous

If this is all true ofc...
3DS cartdridge was a bit diferent and yet 3DS allowed DS cartdridge for the console, it must be the same with Switch and it sucessor

January 2024 is very near to fall 2023

why would it not be intergrade tho
The summary in the OP said it "looks closer to the PS5" version which reads to me as not actually being the ps5 version. Looking now at the original reddit post though, the word is closer isn't used, they just say "looks and runs like a PS5" so I don't know

if there's any port of FF7R, it'd be intergrade. sony doesn't have exclusivity on the content after all

Yeah probably.. for whatever reason I could only think in squares and circles or whatever and that they wouldnt match at all lol.

I've had a rough week ok? :>
Fami is here to be your hint coins when you need it

I can't wait to see Nintendo hardware capable of visuals on par with the current gen. Not for the sake of better looking games, but bc I'm eager for the next cycle of "Switch Pro 2 when?" questions to begin.

There's no point in tagging Nate, he's been permabanned for his crimes against Mario Sunshine fans.

For the record, I have no investment in the accuracy of this person, and don't have deep knowledge of the history here - a few folks I trust basically said "hey, known bullshitter."

As for the hardware stuff, with the exception of the camera, this feels like a greatest hits of recent leaks and standard expectations from the people who have been following it a lot. I would treat this solidly as "well researched fan fiction", personally
Lol well yeah. All leaks/rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. Even if the person is reputable
