Good reviews so far. Very happy.

Hot take : I think it will have good reviews.
You can call me bold and crazy, but I live by my own rules.

See ? I told you it would have positive reviews.
Now believe me or not, I don't care cause I live like a Wild animal, I think it should have decent sales 👍

Seems like the 98 dream is over. But a tie with BotW is still a victory in my books.

So many 10/10's, holy fuck. Currently sitting at a 97 on Metacritic. Absolutely insane. Bravo Nintendo & Co!

97 Metacritic confirmed

Excellent news: now that the dust has settled I'll read that Eurogamer review.

A couple of negative points have been that the story and puzzle area structure is at times more like the Zelda games of old. Some people will love this to be honest.
Lol that’s what some people wanted back. These are 2 complaints I’ve read online

The Eurogamer review is interesting; it seems the major issue is that the gameplay loop is more involved and the world/structure less austere than Breath of the Wild, with a bigger emphasis on collecting things to create your various UltraHand contraptions that enable greater exploration. They also seemed to not very fond of the Chasms, which I'm just learning about, which sounds like a much more challenging place to navigate than anything Zelda has previously done.

Polygon are slightly critical of the main story quests/dungeons - saying it disrupts the fantasy of player freedom, and is a slight return to the more rigid formula of the series past (so some fans might like it). Those are the only two real complaints I've read so far, which is interesting, and both reviews are still enormously positive.
Polygon’s complaint is really interesting - “Disrupts the fantasy of player freedom”. I wonder how many people would feel the same way; this game overall seems to incentivize a particular story path more than BOTW did.

Yeah that’s hardly a negative in my eyes. Seems like a great compromise between OoT and BOTW. Almost something like ALBW.

I have to admit I was a little bit worried that people wouldn't like the mechanics or say that it was too "modern" (hell, I was worried that  I would be think that) but my worries are gone!

I’m reading them at the moment, yeah Eurogamer’s seems like a lot of general dislike of similar ‘go do dozens of this’ sidequests along with the amount of crafting, but all that pales in comparison to the overwhelming positivity of the review regardless. Score seems fair for the review text to me, opinion piece and all that.

I hear the story is a improvement to botw but still not on the same level of the 2000-2011 home console zelda's

Dunno, sounds to me like the one thing everyone wanted. It keeps the BotW reinvented gameplay and adds stuff that people craved from the old 3D formula.

If a reviewer docks points for that ... yeah ... at least give a good reasoning.

I think 97 is the hard cap for review score in both metacritic and opencritic. A 98 had the same chance as an 89 (RIP my sweet child) for this game. And let's be honest with numbers this high there's 0 difference in the grand scheme of things, the game is a masterpiece and an obvious game of the year. I mean it's doing better than elden ring right now and at worst it will just match the generational game of last year. Bravo nintendo.

People understand how hard it is to do 98? With the amount of reviews these games get and varying opinions it’s basically impossible. If it was low amount of reviews that’s different.
Exactly, for an average of 98, you need 7.5 10/10 to overcome 1 9/10, and 15 10/10 to overcome one 8/10. It gets exponentially (as a manner of speaking) more difficult to get a higher scores as your average increases. The difference between 97 and 98 is only one point, but at the same time it requires an insane jump in perfect scores, of which you already have a ton. Getting 98 or 99 is basically impossible since there will always be a few who consider the game to be just excellent, rather than world-shattering.

Getting 97 is crazy enough already.

I am a big fan of introducing a major change to reviews the day before giving the biggest release of the year a lesser score. Props to Eurogamer.

Also, when I read complaints about some parts being too designed I laugh. That's a a huge positive!

Wow… the fact its a sequel to Botw. Usually sequel to games can have a hard time matching the original nowadays. It means the game truly is incredible.

Congratulations to the developers, and us the players! Never doubted that it was gonna be a fantastic game ever since the proper first couple of trailers.

Definitely more interested in hearing why it was docked points then anything else, those are usually the more interesting tidbits

Which is interesting, because I've just read VGC, who talk about the massively improved side content, which they say has the best writing in the game, and who found the Sky Islands slightly disappointing - while EG thought the Sky Islands massively superior to the Depths!

Obviously, that's how opinions work, but there's disagreement in what the strengths and weaknesses are; though the overall picture to me is of a vastly more complex and perhaps more demanding game than Breath of the Wild, with some potential dissonance at its core (more player freedom moment to moment vs more scripted events and a more demanding progression structure).

If this outlet is on Open/Metacritic, they should reconsider this.

I can agree with a mediocre score if you're giving an earnest review, but if you open with such a headline i'm not giving you the benefit of doubt.
I think we should be fair and open to criticism here. I'm avoiding reading reviews due to spoilers but I actually wanna play the game first before giving people any flack. Remember BotW got 6's too, it's no big deal.
