So the video is unavailable now, maybe it was aired sooner than expected?
Beating it with rental pokemon isn't so much as a problem as that there isn't much of a reason to do it. Like, every single cool thing to unlock/earn involves using a Gameboy game.
Honest to god I think people here would be surprised by how there are quite a lot of people who didn't grow up with the transfer pak. (especially if you got it used)
They're literally fixing that and it's an incredibly rare bug?despite the fact they can't even be assed to stop the newest game from corrupting saves at random:
I’m gonna need to know what’s the GOAT rental team to beat the gym leaders
This. I bought it cardridge only, no transfer pak.People act like the Stadium games are outright unenjoyable without the transfer pak, yet there's still so much to do and enjoy in this game with all the cups, trophies and R2: it's ball crushing hard and the biggest problem IMO is that the animations are dumb and you can't skip or speed them up (even if they miss). I made it to the E4 on rentals as a kid and this time I pledge to finally beat it once and for all!
Honest to god I think people here would be surprised by how there are quite a lot of people who didn't grow up with the transfer pak. (especially if you got it used) I had the mainline games but didn't even know what the transfer pak they referred to was, so I just assumed rentals were part of the game. It wasn't until 2007ish I found one and realized that "oh, that's what they meant". Of the 3D pokemon sims, I find Battle Revolution to be the only one actually inexcusable without transferring, since there's next to no rentals in that game whatsoever!
Stadium 2 is more exciting and it's a bummer to see that not release with this though. Moreso the fact that this means we'll likely alternate between GBA and N64 monthly which is sooooooo sloooooowww
I’ll definitely look into these.Articuno is probably the strongest rental Pokémon in the game, it can sweep quite a few leaders and E4. Lapras is also good, but everything it does, Articuno does better.
Zapdos is also good, but I think I used to prefer Jolteon because it's the fastest Pokémon in the game iirc and it also got a better moveset. Maybe Electrode was faster than Jolteon, he could also be an option. Explosion was good for taking down the enemy when you're almost dying since it always goes first.
Starmie is another great one, it's one of the fastest Pokémon and has a great moveset, if I'm not mistaken it has Surf, Thunderbolt and Psybeam. Was a staple in my team.
Snorlax is a great, bulky pick. Dragons were very powerful in gen 1 but I think Dragonite was kinda shit, maybe Dragonair was good.
And finally, psychic type was completely OP on gen 1, so abuse those. Slowbro, Alakazam and Exeggutor are probably the best ones, Exeggutor is pretty bulky and has some more coverage, I would pick two out of those three and balance them out with the rest of the team.

purple jinx
is that new for stadium 1 ?
One day Game Freak will realize Pokémon Red and Blue are 30 year old, black and white game boy games with a total size of approximately 256kb that everyone has already played dozens of times.
But that day is not today.
Didn't stop them being by far the best selling games in the 3DS eshop, despite being at an inflated price and coming super late to the store. They know exactly how valuable in monetary terms that software is, to the detriment of the player base.
They were $8, I don't think that's an inflated price lol.Didn't stop them being by far the best selling games in the 3DS eshop, despite being at an inflated price and coming super late to the store. It's also true that the Stadium games are ONLY battles, they can afford to be as slow and wildly animated as they want. Both the resources and play time are all poured into the battles.Incredible (and sad) how lively these battles look compared to current 3D games lol.

The minigames are the only reason to play Stadium 1 & 2 without Transfer Pak support. The single player cup mode is literally unbeatable with the rental Pokemon.
Sure, if you cheese the RNG with Freezes, OHKO moves, crits, flinches and Thunder; there's like a 1 in 50,000 chance that it's possible... if you play for 20 hours straight and also happen to be one of the best speedrunners in the world.
For a normal human being? No. For all intents and purposes, it's impossible to beat without Transfer Pak support.

EDIT: Double checked because my memory isn't reliable, and looks like they may have actually been $10, which doesn't really change what I said.
do you actually believe that's what a 20 hour RTA run doesSure, if you cheese the RNG with Freezes, OHKO moves, crits, flinches and Thunder; there's like a 1 in 50,000 chance that it's possible
Not a world class speedrunner though. The guy in that video literally did what I suggested in my previous post. He spammed OHKO moves and won with cheeky Freezes, crits and RNGesus on his side.
He's not even playing the game at this point, he's just rolling the dice and hoping for a lucky win. Which is the only way you can possibly win with rental Pokemon.
That's easy. Just make a dedicated app to Pokemon games. Then they could make whatever special treatment they want to, including making the GB games being Pack-exclusive or being purchasable if they want to.TBH I’m convinced they’re never coming, not unless Nintendo figures out how to disable rewind, save states, and cloud backup for JUST the Pokémon games. TPC, from what I gather, has some weird sanctimonious “purity” rules regarding the Pokémon experience that is detrimental to the players, like disabling cloud backup to prevent Pokémon duping. They do not align with NSO’s QOL features.

Not mention they could support these features by overwriting the cloud save and all save states after the transaction. Of course, if they didn't even get cloud saves working for new games, they won't bother here either.
Not a world class speedrunner though.
I'm with you. Doing Gym Leader Castle runs with rentals is great. Can't wait for the release, I love Pokémon Stadium!Surprised at how many people seem to dislike playing the Stadium games with rentals only - to me it's half the fun!

I don't know about Stadium 2 because I never played that, but Stadium 1 is definitely doable as I did it as a kid. I only didn't managed to beat R2, but I think as an adult I should be able to do it as well.
The gym leaders are pretty easy honestly, the problem is the E4 because you have to beat them in one go. Besides good strategy and some creativity with the team, it requires some luck as well, but it's not impossible.
Not so fun story. I made it to the E4 once and saved my game. I felt like I had finally broken through and this was going to be it. My cousin came over one day and asked to play the game. I didn't notice at first but he started to play my save file and was KO'd 3-0 almost instantly. That was it. No save for me to try again. No second chances. It was all over. I stood there frozen, unsure if I should cry, hit him, or just give up video games forever. It took every ounce of energy in me to keep my brave face on.
I never made it back to the E4 again.
Are you sure you have to beat everything in one go? In my head, you can save the game after each gym leader and you can retry as many times as you like, only the E4 has to be beaten in one go.
Either way, this release will have save states so that should make the game much more approachable with rentals.
It might be happening, yes, and it's something I thought could be on the cards before GBA was added. We can't be alternating GBA and N64. That can't be what's going on here...right?
Ugh...
I don't remember exactly how saves worked, but I know that whatever he did, my save was gone after that battle.
Prime ThaBeast is literally one of the greatest Mario players of all time.
When the game comes out you should try it and then randomly call your cousin to confront him if he purposefully deleted your save in Pokémon Stadium lol
