News Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key announced, coming March 24th, 2023 for Nintendo Switch, Playstation and Steam

O
how does this run on Switch? I don't get too picky about fps or framerate on switch. I want to play portable too. I just want to make sure like the switch version isn't super buggy like some occasional switch multiplatform ports.

Thanks :)
IT runs very well, just like the previous port. Also just like Sophie 2 it has a quality and performance mode, which I think mainly changes some shadows and textures, haven't noticed really any difference regarding performance so far (docked mode only). I do have to say they made some more compromises here considering it's a semi-open world with pretty much not loading times in some things like the sky and some object like trees.

Also some things after 1 hour

1. The game is fast, in all sense. Ryza move faster, you can pick up things without really stopping (no animation) and just go traversing like anime flash
2: There is a huge upgrade in the character models, and the render very well (which sometimes it's a little jarring considering some lower res assets in some escenes)
3. It has unfortunately the bane of small text, specially the party banter that makes FE3H text size looks giant in comparison. Its an issue on a big tv, so I'm guessing it will be a bigger one in portable.

Overall, it's a great start and a great Gust port.

Also Gust already working on some issues right now, incluiding DoF and more graphic options https://www.koeitecmoeurope.com/ryza3/update.html

Jeez, now I feel like I should finally play Ryza 1, just so I can make my way to 3 eventually...
Yeah, you’re definitely gonna want to at least play the first one, from what I’ve played so far. There’s a recap video that covers the important parts but kinda skips over the overall bitter sweetness of the series. The second one is probably going to end up being important too.

I would most certainly play through 1 & 2 before getting 3, yeah; especially since I already own 1 on Switch, and both 1 & 2 on PC (I ... actually don't remember buying them on there, but I guess that doesn't matter, lol). I'll have to put it on the back burner for now, though, as there is just too much other stuff. And I'm simply too slow and occupied with other things. Ryza (1-3) is definitely on my radar now!
Eyyyy new avatar, I approve (y)
Yeeesss 🙏

They did a comparison here:
https://themakoreactor.com/featured...w-graphics-performance-comparisons-ps4/48562/

It seems to be the usual, 30 FPS on switch vs 60 on PS5, and slightly reduced settings. Not a big deal imo, and playing portable enrich these games to me. And Ryza 2 looked amazing on TV also, so its not that you are loosing a lot if you choose switch. Gust has truly become one of the best regarding switch ports, I would say they use switch as the base platform to develop.
thank you:) i bought it on switch, handheld I put so much time in after work, and at work LOL

I am absolutely blown away by the scale of the map. I haven’t explored the whole first area yet but they seem to have placed every zone from the first game into one map with no loading zones.

And that's Gust teasing the player!. They make you go all the way through the coast to Kark Islands just to show "yeah, all the areas from Ryza 1 are really connected" and then once you get to the Kark area they go "ok, no more hand holding, this is where the real game start"

Hope they can improve the draw distance and LOD on switch. Reminds me of dragons dogma but a bit worse.

Not gonna lie, I was very mixed on 2 but hearing that got me hyped. Like, yeah, I definitely want to return to a fully open-no loading screens Kurken Island!

In general exploration was expanded in 2 but I felt it was hurt by how the story gameplay loop worked and by the general clunkiness of it. Are actions like swinging around (if it even is a thing in this) and especially diving seamless in 3? 'Cause that would be lovely.

(also the simple prospect of playing it at 60fps now that I have a PS5 doesn't hurt either!)

Wow, you weren't kidding about the small text. I genuinely wonder what went through the dev's head as they chose the font size for party banter because I don't see any point in making it so tiny.

I don't think that's going to change, as I mentioned before it's clearly a compromise they had to make to make it work on switch, specially to avoid the loading times, and the art style kinda works for that porpuse. Still it's better than DQ treasures and Sonic Frontiers as Ryza has better resolution and MILES away from what Bamco has done with SAO, now those ones had really bad LoD, draw distance, small font AND low resolution

Swinging around depends on swinging points just like 2, and as far as I know there is no diving here. There is still more verticallity than 2 and if you can swim it's really fast and they even add dolphins if you don't have mounts to speed the navigation (depends on the area though). Overall they made it better and faster to explore

Yeah, I guess they don't want to cover that much area but really the interface is not cluttered at all, they had some space to work. Even the normal text could be a little better with a bolder font

Swinging around being the same is not the end of the world, though diving being gone is a shame. Glad to hear getting around can be fast if one wants to.

Fair. At least they said they are adding graphics options on console ( I assume just motion blur and depth of field).

Every SAO game I played barring Fatal Bullet was a colossal waste of time so I didn't bother with recent ones.

My mistake, just unlocked air drops and diving is back and it's seamless, so as long as there is deep water you can dive

I thought the RPGFan quote was overselling it, but no, it really is the equivalent of XB3 for the Atelier games, been playing this all the weekend and feel that I haven't scratched like 10% and the only new member in 15 hours is Federica. Also they really did justice to Bos in the fights

So, according to Hosoi, Ryza 1 is indeed nearing 1 million (Gust PR'd Ryza 1 + 2 at >1.6 million)

"Thanks to all of you, the cumulative number of worldwide shipments of the first game is likely to reach 1 million units soon, so I am very grateful." (machine translated)

There are interesting bits in the interview such as Gust knows that Atelier needs to be more popular in Japan in order to raise awareness worldwide. Also, the Ryza trilogy was the "make or break" for Hosoi, who said he would leave the company if the Secret Series didn't make it commercially.

They really went and broke alchemy now (in a good way as always). With Sophie 2 they already gave a lot of freedom and now mixing item rebuild AND link morph you can go crazy with the effects and the item properties

Finally after 2 hours of loops to gain SP, item rebuild and duplication finally got a lvl 99 999 quality red neutralizer. So it's time to get crazy with weapons, armors and items.

Me to the game:

Gust "hey boss , what new poses are we going to add in the update"
Gust Boss "MEMES, TONS OF MEMES"
I can't, they put jojo poses, gaijin 4 koma, soyjak pointing, salt BAE, some super heroes

Having played Ryza 1 and Ryza 2, I have to say that the English in Ryza 3 is REALLY BAD.

I have no idea why it is so bad compared to the previous games, maybe because it had to be ready for a simultaneous worldwide launch? And it isn't just one or two small errors, I noticed right from the beginning that the grammar and syntax was off, and calling it "off" is being generous.

It's really disappointing as I didn't have this experience with the first two games, and this has left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth for one of the few games I was looking forward to this year.

EDIT: also the text is way too small, and the text in some cutscenes is unreadable because it is white text on a bright background.

I have noticed the grammar errors, but maybe because english is not my first lenguage I haven't noticed anything off the syntax (though this maybe the case that someone whose english is not the first lenguage did the translation which is why I don't find it weird, I remember SRW V had a similar issue). Still not gonna doubt you as you probably have better understanding of english than me. With that said I don't think is the international release since both Blue Reflection 2 and Sophie 2 had also simultaneous world release dates and it seems it didn't had this issue, so I'm going to say they made a change to the localization team

Never played Blue Reflection 2 or Sophie 2, so I will take your word for it. It’s disappointing that Ryza 3 has ended up with this issue which other Gust games don’t have.

I kinda remember this was also an issue after KT bought them and users reported some of the Dusk trilogy games having weird english too

Edit: with that said I think this is a KT issue and not a Gust one, as they depend on whatever budget /team KT assign them for localization. Gonna check the credits later to see who worked on this

KT reported into their fiscal earnings that Ryza 3 sold 290k as of March 31th!

After 4 months on JP + 3 months RotW, Ryza 2 was at ~360k (that's when they announced the 1 million for Ryza 1 + 2)

That seems a damn good result for Ryza 3 after just one week.

Probably we'll get a PR for the 2kk sales of the Ryza trilogy very soon!

I keep meaning to check this series out but every time I do there's another new release / port / remake / something coming out with it.

At this point I'll probably just try that remake of the very first one coming this summer, looks like a fun / cozy time and should give me a good indication if I'll like the rest.

Marie, the first one, it's very chill out experience. Just keep in mind that modern atelier games (from Rorona onwards) are a different beast, alchemy and battle is more complex than Marie, so while the essence is there, the main experience is going to vary a lot

And they just confirmed it reached 300K , the fastest time the series has reached this number!

I was able to start the game past weekend and I'm really impressed with it. I mean, of course it is an atelier game, but it seems like a AAA compared with the other games in the series. It feels pretty ambitious, a big departure from the previous ones. Even just running through the world feels more "premium" than in the previous two games. Very, very surprised with it.

I guess that based on their previous tweet of 1.6 million series sales, and the recent Ryza 3 sales, the series has eclipsed the 2 million mark.

Secret Series must be within a nail distance of 2 million. It's at 1.9 and something as of now.

I'll be not surprised if we get a PR in mid-may

Also the update with legendary difficulty was released today, but since the traits are way to broken now, you can still one shot the last boss lol

Apologies for the off-topic post but I felt like it wasn't really worth its own thread. I was going through my eShop library today and realized that...I own Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings on Switch. I have absolutely zero recollection of buying this lol. I thought I would ask the Atelier People around here: is that one any good / a good place to start?

Yes I would say of the 3 of the original misterious trilogy is the one with the best art direction, combat and has a more streamlined alchemy system. Overall Gust has made the franchise easy to follow for newcomers and each game works as a standalone story, although playing each series in order helps to understand the relationship between returning characters and the world (in this case Sophie and Firis). But it's also not something that complex and they usually gives you anything you need to know about the characters
