Sales Data Actraiser Renaissance "hits great sales", "exceeds expectations"

I've been playing Renaissance (first Actraiser game I have played in any capacity), and it's really good, so I am glad it's apparently doing well. It's been hanging out on the top seller charts on the eShop, which is especially great since it was launched with no fanfare, and initial impressions (based on only the graphical style) were pretty negative, until people finally got their hands on it.

I'd love to see a follow up, there are some very obvious ways you can build on and improve Renaissance.

Great to read, but for the love of god don't remaster the second, that one sucks.

But i'm open for a new game! With the sim / sidescroller gameplay!

I would think that remaking the 2nd one would be the next logical step. Keep the core ideas behind the seconds side scrolling gameplay and level design, but add in all new sim mechanics to connect the side scrolling segments and rpg mechanics to have the hero scale up in strength.

I'd like to have a platform breakdown, just to find out if people are buying games this expensive ($20) on the mobile platforms.
Unless the developers make off the cuff remarks about how certain versions over or underperformed (like the SaGa devs did w.r.t. Switch and Steam versions overperforming), I don't think we'll really get that information.

So happy for the good sales. Actraiser (along with Super Ghouls n' Ghosts and Super Castelvania IV) was perhaps the first SNES game where I noticed a true leap over the capabilities of the NES. It's one of my favrite games on the platform. Top-notch graphics, amazing OST, two modes of play. Very innovative at the time. I even got the sequel knowing the sim elements were removed.

Hopefully this paves the way for a new Actraiser and more Quintet games (eiher rom collections or remakes- hopefully the former).

It’s probably not too difficult to guess where it sold the most. These retro-revivals typically only over perform on a couple platforms (PC/Switch) and it only really got prime coverage in one place—the Direct.

hows the switch port? John from DF said something to avoid if you can play other versions....any reason why?
Switch version is the one I've played. Until this specific post I didn't even know there was supposed to be anything wrong with it. Take that as you will.

That's great news, though I heard the game wasn't really good? (Probably the Switch version only though?)
The game is great. As I said, the Switch version performs just fine in my experience.

I haven't picked it up yet but I am interested. I played the first game on the Wii VC many years ago and had a good time.

Not sure if I like the art style though.

Yeah I was worried about this too, but I still got the Switch version, and honestly in my opinion, I think the issues raised are overblown. I think the Switch version runs just fine and I had no issue at all with it. I found the DF dire messaging about it to be overblown personally. I have other platforms that can run this better and I still stuck with the Switch.

That said, DF is great and maybe I am just less sensitive to performance differences, but I usually find I am quite sensitive to it, just not in this case. I find that this game is a perfect fit for Switch given its heritage being on a Nintendo platform, and its a great portable game too.

However YMMV.

The Switch version plays well enough for me. But then again, I'm not playing all the other versions to compare it to. That said, it plays just fine.

Thanks for the impression! It's a relief to know it's a good version of the game, now I'm definitely going to buy it.

I have to add I also heard the game didn't run well on Switch on NateDrake's podcast, but oh well.

Going to jump in to say that I didn’t have any issues on the switch version either. It’s an excellent game and I’m happy to hear about the sales. Hopefully there’s more to come!

Been playing docked and haven't experienced the reported lag either. (Then again, I've slowed down at Kasandora after a friend accidentally wrote over my save data, requiring me to spend the rest of the day getting back there...)

So glad to hear about the positive sales numbers! This remake was full of heart and soul. (And ugh, Koshiro's tweet about Quintet is so gorgeous and sad all at once!) Whether this leads to more Quintet remakes (would love to re-experience my personal favorite Soul Blazer and the rest of the trilogy this way) or just more intelligent and respectful remakes in general, I'll be happy!

...Though it would also be somewhat interesting to see an Actraiser 2 with the scrapped/non-existent sim sections restored. I never bothered to play it myself once I heard about what they did, but a quick look at some gameplay videos touring the map, it does make me wish you could see and develop these locations like in the original. And given how the new character writing for Renaissance flows into the original game quite well, I expect this team could write civilization plots for 2 that feel like genuine Actraiser.

This Remake isnt for me, but im happy about its success and hope this gonna result in more SNES Era Remasters/Ports from Quintet, its a shame that games like Terrangima and Illusion of Gaia arent available on modern systems right now.

Imagine a HD-2D Terrangima Remaster - someone hold me.

PS. @Phantom Thief - its been a while, great to see you around here as well.
