On chapter 12 of Bayonetta 3! I never checked my play time but this game feels extremely long for this type of game (which of course is a good thing). However it could be my mind and memory messing with me…

I figure a new year is the perfect time to try a new avatar. I’ve been rocking my old one for way too long. And Elmo is literally a red monster.

I actually took the picture myself, from one of my kid’s picture books 😅
 
playing steel diver. it's fun, especially the periscope stuff. game is sorely missing a ranking system. it already tracks your times, slap an S or three stars on there and you have a compelling game.
 
Now I’m playing Monster Hunter Stories 2. I find good title, maybe not a masterpiece but enjoyable if you like turn based RPGs and MH.

Visual look great, they are better than Switch Pokémon games ?

To be fair, the poll asks us what we are looking forward to doing in 2023. Not what we'll end up actually doing in practice.

...still, Tears of the Kingdom, that'll get me to play for at least 100 hours, so I'll play something this year!

I'm trying to like Elden Ring but I just don't. Sigh. And I love Souls-games. Just restarted again to see if it would click but somehow it doesn't. I try a few more hours but maybe I have to admit it's not for me.

For real. Castlevania is the one franchise I thought the current (mostly) AAA-averse Konami would bring back to life (no pun intended) with a new title, since it doesn't need a huge budget or cutting edge 3D graphics to work. I'm pretty sure they could do something similar in scope to Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth and pretty much everyone would be delighted.

It's strange because Castlevania getting into Smash and the Netflix series brought a lot of momentum and eyes to the IP yet it's been mostly dead silent.

and by "bullshit" I mean "new years playthrough of Radical Dreamers"
 
Watched the Mask of Zorro for the first time in ages and it feels like such a relic both in the bad (sexist tropes) as well as good way (protagonists allowed to have some actual sexual chemistry). Great movie.
 
Even the prison in RD sounds like the one in CT, I know I said it before but my god these sound effects are taking me back.

In my case, I legit feel like I actually am going to play through more games this year. Like, these past two months I've been doing a 'God of War' runthrough - getting the Platinum trophy for every game in the series - and it feels... great? By the time I'm done I'll have experienced 6 whole games that I never would have otherwise. Mostly really good ones, too!

I'm also gonna make myself a resolution to not buy more games than I can complete. Ofc there's some games I'm definitely going to get/play no matter what (TotK, Starfield, Jedi Survivor, Pikmin 4, etc), but in the case of sales and such I won't buy anything unless I've finished a game before it.

Woke up this morning. Picked up my phone and opened up Fire Emblem Heroes. Went to go summon on the New Year's banner. Got the hero I wanted with my free pull. It's a sign. It's gonna be a good year.
 
Talking about actually playing games, I've been keeping a 'log' of all the ones I've finished since the current-gen of consoles came out:

I need to get around to updating the Xbox/PC ones with dates. Can't really with most of the Switch titles cause of the lack of achievements... and because I don't have my Switch to look at any 'final cutscene' screenshots (which I just realised that they might delete Shit...)

Speaking of playing videogames, I recently found out by playing it that Dragon Quest XI S Echoes of an Elusive age: Definitive edition it's actually incredible and one of the best jrpg ever.
It's crazy what playing videogames can do.

This I really don't understand. Maybe they're scared because Lords of Shadow I and II wasn't that big of a succes?

I just remembered that shortly after Super Bomberman R released on Switch and sold way beyond expectations a Konami representative stated in an interview that when discussing which series should get similar revivals Castlevania was a very recurrent topic. Then... radio silence, and the next revival turned out to be Hyper Sports R, which was eventually canceled.

I wonder if at any point a "Castlevania R" was seriously in consideration but something happened to prevent it.

I’ve been waiting for Chrono Cross to go on sale cause I’m too cheap to pay 20 bucks on it.

But it never dropped a cent since it’s release lol.

I might as well use those visa gift cards I got and just buy it lol

Well finished Bayonetta 3 (for real this time… I think lol). Will the game ever truly end! I got to say what a ride from start to finish. Most batshit/ insane game I have ever had the privilege of playing. Perfect send off for the character(s). My only gripe with the game was that some of the big open areas were kind of bland and not much to do. This is however a minor complaint and the good definitely shines past this. Highly recommended and can’t wait for the next one.

I used to love that movie but I haven't seen it in like... 15 years? At least? So I'm sure there's definitely some things in it that didn't age well. But I do remember the two leads having great chemistry. And it's hard to go wrong with Antonio Banderas.

It's a bit obtuse for me at first, but I'm also not used to text-based adventures so that might be more a me problem than an actual mark against the game. Aside from how weird traversal feels because of that, it's pretty neat for a Chrono-obsessed person! There are a lot of.. I keep wanting to say "callbacks" to Cross but they're really more like "callforwards" I guess, especially in the music (and obviously the story). So looking at it from the perspective of what it must've been like to play when it came out, it's twisty and surprising in a lot of its connections to Trigger and must've been wild to then play Cross afterwards. It also more concisely frames some of the big twists in Cross, condensing a lot of the "holy shit" connections of that game down into a 2-3 hour package.

I'm definitely glad I decided to play through it for the novelty of seeing the birth of Cross and Masato Kato's first attempt at continuing Trigger.

What I'm not glad about is the parts where the game locks you out of saving, as I died during what I assume to be the final boss and am now having to replay like 30-45 minutes of stuff because I just kept meandering and doing things and totally forgot the old JRPG rule of saving every couple minutes. 😅
