Yeah something like that could help a lot. Some bosses are just very difficult with where they spawn and then they keep spawning there.
Flyfish being the biggest offender.
Tho I have noticed that Big Shots are hell when the middle of the map is a war zone and suddenly they spawn multiples and you have no time to go take care of them

Best thing about High Tide is still no Big Shots appearing, ever. So they have the technology. We just don't know how intricate they could get with it technically.

Oooh, they cannot appear during high tide? I mean, in hindsight, that checks out, but I never actually thought about it. XD Nice.

Yep, no chance of teammates tanking your run by dick-riding the cannon. Major reason why I fear High Tide less in Splatoon 3 than Splatoon 2, despite the overall difficulty increase.

Getting more intricate about the maximum numbers of same Boss Salmonid allowed on the map could also be a solution. Like only 2 Flyfish could be alive at the same time, but 4 Steel Eel, as the latter are easier to take out and getting overwhelmed by them is more the players' fault. Could even gradually raise that number as hazard level goes up. Or put all Boss Salmonids that can attack from afar into one group and set a limit for them as a whole, so only a total of 8 Flyfish / Stingers / Big Shots / Drizzlers could be up simultaneously rather than in theory 12. Adding another enemy of that type in Big Shot to the rotation without retiring one from the original Salmon Run really screwed the balance. Fish Sticks and Lids would similarly share a restriction.

So, taking a look at my stats, I've come to an annoying conclusion: I cannot play Flounder Heights. I have single digit win rates across the board with that map. I've also tried different weapons when using that map because I tend to never hit anything with my mains (ranged blaster, N-Zap) and the weapons that I've seen used often there I suck at. I've also seen that whenever I play Flounder Heights is usually one of the options which explains why I've been in such a strong losing streak lately.

Or, when I played last Sunday and Flounder Heights wasn't a choice, I got a 6 game win streak. and ended with an 8-2 playtime. So...I guess 3's map design works with me and only me specifically?

I need to get back into this game. Big Run was my big killjoy of it all. I thought I did decently well with 84 eggs and was looking forward to that silver trophy, though I was aiming for the top 5% gold... Then the actual results came in and damn I didn't even get bronze and then I just kind of gave up LOL

The new weapons they introduced in Chill Season have been lit tho, I just wish they were adding stages and weapons more often than once every 3 months

I hope they add new Salmonid Bosses.
Ideas
Screamer Beamer: Opera-singer Salmonid, similar shape to Big Shot. Rare and only 1 can exist at the same time. Uses Killer Wail with a long windup and can be devestating, tho won't kill as fast as a actual Killer Wail.
Underover Mob: identical to a Chum, but with red pupils, a 'undercover boss'. It one-shots Players with frying Pan and is slightly faster and more durable than a Chum.
Tri-Chopper: medium-sized Salmonid boss with a Bow, flying around with a Propeller. Works like Tri-Stringers but the lil Bombs it leaves behind takes a bit longer to explode. Shifts between Horizontal and Vertical shots.
Cooler Bro: landing from the sky, a small Salmonid in a modified Tactocooler sits immobile. Nearly normal Mobs will home in on it, and once they touch it, will get a speed boost, and continue their Player Pursuit. Basically a Support Boss that boosts Chums and Co

As explained in the 2.0 patch notes, anyone can now play any role in Tricolor Turf War at random, and it's its own category in the final results. You will also always get put in a tricolor battle if you pick the mode. (No more random normal turf wars!)

However, the winning team at halftime will get extra clout when winning on defense, and the losing teams will get extra clout when winning on attack.

EDIT: it also seems like Undertow Spillway is the tricolor stage this time!

Undertow Spillway seems like a horrible choice.
I think it seems like a great choice actually. I think tricolor is at its best when the middle is actually defendable, and the fact that the entirety of mid is a chokepoint should make it quite doable for defenders

My thinking is the defenders have to take a bit of attacker turf eventually. The spawn area of Undertow Spillway is large and the area in front of it easy to paint even without directly contesting defenders who have pushed up underneath. Lots depends on how far back or forward the signals are placed, but I don't imagine they'll be on or next to the glass ceilings.

The layout for the stage was datamined, and I think it might calm some worries. The attacker's spawn is smaller than normal, and defenders have more turf they can access than normal.

Oops, yeah, that's a chunk chopped off the side.

There goes my curiosity if two attackers equipped with mid- to long-range ink-efficent weapons could position on opposite flanks of spawn, fire down, never challenge for a signal and still win by outpainting the defenders.

Oh god, the worst possible thing happened

Chara made a video about wiper being good.
Everyone's gonna be playing it now and I'll just be another wiper among the masses instead of using a fairly unique weapon 😭

Lol, it was also noticeable after his Stamper videos. Rest assured though, you aren't using Splash-o-matic or Splattershots that show up literally every match.

Now that we are 3 weeks into the 2nd season, what has everyone been playing lately? Did any of the new weapons stick? And what about the buffs/nerfs and new clothing?

As for me, both the Carbon Deco and the Dapple Nouveau are some of my favourite weapons in the game now. Especially the latter: so much chaos and dumb aggression with a nice bomb to spam if you're locked out. I should have a nice clip somewhere perfectly describing that weapon.

Best buff was allowing Reefslider to insta-pop rainmaker, so satisfying if you pull it off correctly. And for the gear, the Skull Bandana has really grown on me, despite ignoring it in the first 2 games.

I didn't expect wiper to feel so good just from a paint buff. Also, custom jr is boatloads of fun, it feels like you can play like a full on slayer. All 3 brand new weapons are fairly mediocre and I'm waiting for them to get buffed before giving them another go.

Other than that I'm kinda disappointed with the lack of content. I was expecting more collectibles, more unique gear (most of it is returning or recolors), another stage or 2 and the amount of new weapons feels kinda... low. We're never getting 3rd kits for weapons at this rate.

I haven't really even tried the new weapons, but the new Aerospray and Luna Blaster have seen some use. I've mostly stuck to explosher because I enjoy it, though I've been trying out Sloshing Machine right now because seems all the cool kids use it.

Don't worry. Wiper seems hard to play, so you'll still stand out big-time from the flavor of the month bandwagon no skill hoppers. Maybe even more so than before.

As a backliner, I thank Chara for his public service getting Splatana enthusiasts to switch from Zipcaster to the one with Ultra Stamp.

I'm having a second spring with the Hydra after getting Explosher to max stars. I've rediscovered playing patiently and not forcing bad engagement out of a feeling of needing to make things happen and since hitting X-rank I also enjoy being liberated from the ever-present Liter. Hydra is already close enough to 5* that I can start thinking about the next weapon. Maybe the normal Heavy Splatling, or I'll give the Ballpoint another spin, or the Custom Jet Squelcher will have arrived by then.

On the topic of clothing, there's less new stuff to discover in the shops than I expected, but I'm behind on leveling gear anyway. Super Sea Snail gain from Splatfest behing halved also makes me not experiment with gear builds and instead hoard what I have, so that also plays a role.

Excluding the .52 gal in Splatoon 2 Ive spent very little time with shooters that have a range less than L3 Nozzlenose. So when my response to your question is Custom Jr., it is beyond a surprise to me that I am having fun with it and is currently my best performing weapon. I actually started playing Vanilla Jr. because of Custom.

The new weapon classes are all butt to me. I dont play anyhing that got a buff/nerf so I cant comment on them....outside of Angle Shooter in which i dont feel like the sub changed at all.

The Pro or the Jet I see myself crawling back to, begging on my knees, once they have better kits. The .96 I'm not sure what's wrong with it. Everytime I tried the weapon, something feels off. Is it the movement speed? Does it paint worse than it used to? Whatever the cause, I don't remember the good old Gal being this sluggish in Splatoon or Splatoon 2.
Alright, time for me to stop lollygagging and get to X rank. This actually makes me want to play Splatoon more of this is the case in X rank.

Is it just me or is the Big Swig Roller terrible? It is really fun, I like it, it paints SOOO well
And while I get it cannot be powerful with that good coverage, but... it feels TOO weak even with that in mind.
I am being out-beat by everything, including snipers, even tho I whack right at them.
Also, when were they gonna remove Brells from the game? They were gonna do that, right? Which is why they made them literally useless
likes Brellas but man are they terrible

Its terrible. The only thing it does well is paint and lots of better weapons paint well.
Yeah... like, I get it not being a powerhouse, but even if it paints well, you stand no chance against anything at all. Even as a support Kit, it feels way too weak.
I still like using it, but yeeahh...
Really hope the next Update gives us a brand new Brella and Slosher.

There's just something so satisfying about perfectly timing upwards bomb throws to revive teammates instantly on respawn in SR, and doing a completely different task while it's happening

I've been using the Forge Splattershot Pro. Been having a lot of fun playing Clam Blitz in S rank the past couple nights.

I am very excited for the Single Player DLC. I wonder what format it will take. I imagine it will once again try it's own thing and be... whack.

S+ is unsalvageable, time change nothing, It's stupid you would make ranking up easy to avoid frustrating players to just delay it when everyone end up in s+ and they're gonna keep losing, keep dying, making unbalanced matchs that make no sense.
Nintendo is purposefully making this game bad, I don't understand.
It's my pride that kept me going, but at this rate I won't reach s+10 and lose time I could dedicate to X rank.
Ranking up from S will be much faster and easier anyway, their system is easily bypassed, it's useless.

Came to the same conclusion myself. Never gonna reach S+10, never gonna have a reason to want to.

I had ungodly bad luck with rank-up battles this season and the climb from S to S+ will still be faster than suffering through S+ for ten additional ranks of atrocious matchmaking.

^fwiw those bonkers golden egg scores are coming from the new "job scenario" mode so i'm sure they're just practicing a favorable scenario over and over—still extremely impressive but not as totally over-the-top as it might seem at first glance lol

btw this game is like the land of inconveniences

I once lost a rainmaker match in 47 seconds. matchmaking almost always takes longer than that

you have to go through so much shit between battles with the long ass animations, and since I hit a threshold in casual queue it's fucking advertising competitive every battle. the only reason I hit it is because at this rank I only have to win one battle per every eight I play

I'm pretty sure I still love this game but sometimes it really grinds my gears

wait

this is a thing? Do you mean you're doing open, but have enough points to do a rank-up battle in series? Is that what it's saying?

yeah

and every single battle, win or lose, it says "you can play the comp queue now!"

like stfu nogami I don't care

I mean, they're both considered competitive, Series is just higher stakes. So they've assumed that even if you're just doing Open, you still care about your rank. For whatever reason Turf War is the only mode they truly consider to be more casual.

FWIW if you did do the one series it would stop saying that, as presumably you'd either actually rank up or lose too many points to try again immediately. But if you don't give a shit about raising your rank whatsoever, then yeah, it already takes too long to hop back in the queue...

it really is just a minor inconvenience

one more tiny interruption in this world of tiny interruptions

The thing that gets me the most is the "please wait" for a couple seconds after getting back to the lobby even if you don't re-queue. I'm not in a match, why am I waiting? It's the shortest of times but it aggravates me so much sometimes lol.

Also for some reason it takes a few seconds longer to get in the queue for an X battle than the others, and despite mainly playing that all month I'm not used to it and it still annoys me.

X battle matching times are faster though from what I've experienced.

To continue the interruption chain: after getting a disconnect or server error every now and then the game shows the "game modes have been updated" pop-up, when it's like nowhere near rotation time. No they haven't been updated, your server shat itself and I had to reconnect that's what happened
