Biggest pet peeve: when people are afraid to use their specials round 1/2 even if we are actively about to lose. You can't save your specials for later if we die NOW, little Timmy!

What a huge disappointment Big Run has turned out to be. They should have done something cool; like have the basket spawn advance across the map every round as if the players were pushing the salmonids back, or made use of the stage "facilities" so that team wipes simply respawn as if it were a turf war match, or have unlimited time and endless waves that only end with a team wipe, or any number of other ideas. There should always be a guarenteed cohozuna round too. I like the stage, but damn, what wasted potential.
I feel the same, not a huge fan of Big Run so far. Maybe it's because it takes places on Wahoo World but still. I expected something more, I thought they would go all in.

Why the HECK do you still lose rank if someone disconnects in salmon run?????? that 5 point loss when someone disconnects wave 2 and you lose feels like a massive "fuck you"

It’s even worse when no one use it at all and you lose on the 3rd wave. They should make a warning for some people to actually use them if the player still has 2 special saved on the bag.

I believe many people do not know about it

Because the game was always designed with coop in mind and if you lost zero for only one person having disconnected, that'd always be what happens if a round is going badly. Losing half as much is the middle ground.

Why do I get punished for other people disconnecting though? There is no denying it is MUCH harder with 3 people

You aren't getting punished, they reduce the number of salmonids that spawn, the number of eggs needed, and while obviously it is more difficult, that's why they decreased the amount you lose.

The only truly difficult bit is the moments after someone DC's because you need to get things under control.

And there has to still be something that stops all rounds ending with someone deliberately DCing because there's no penalty for the three who stay online if you do so.

There already is something like that

If you squad up with someone in multiplayer and they disconnect, you still lose points, but the people not associated with them don't

The big run map is amazing. Why is it salmon run exclusive?
Maybe I misunderstood your comment, but Wahoo World has been a battle stage since launch (returning from S2 even), the concept of Big Run is that they make battle stages into Salmon Run stages for 48 hours due to salmonid invasions.

Unfortunately its design in the 5 battle modes is a far cry from what it is in Salmon Run, in part due to its gimmick that periodically (every other 30 seconds) removes bridges to mid. Ironically even the rest of the layout seems better-suited for Salmon Run, it's easily one of the worst stages for competitive play

you never want disconnecting to be a charitable action

I've been in so many ranked matches where someone on my team disconnects and I thank them for their sacrifice

in salmon run I curse their selfishness lol

What!? I have 90h playing this and never played this level in 2 months

Edit: i would like to make a correction. After further avaliation, I discovered the real Wahoo World map. It’s so different in the Salmon Run because of the flooded areas that I wasn’t able to recognize it.

My biggest problem with Big run as a concept with rewards based on positioning relative to everyone is that really doesn't work well. I somehow got a team where we got 123 eggs in my third game, because we probably got extremely optimal weapons /rounds and only gotten to 110 twice more, almost completely at random after a ton more games.

I was gonna cry that we lost after such a good glowflies wave

but then!

I was feeling good about my 96 high score so far but of course I come in here and you're all "I only have 120 I'm so bad 😭 " lol

I would like to play your copy of Splatoon with no Wahoo World lol

@Suswave did u join my room? Sorry my partner and I are eating breakfast, we'll be 5 minutes lol
oh lol yeah that was me

I was also eating and making breakfast with my partner! our coffee table just happens to be the only eating surface in our tiny apartment

also I’m not great at salmon run so I apologize if me dropping in was a detriment

First Big Run big big and I screwed up what could have already been the big record run big big for the weekend because I didn't know how good the Big Swig big big is. Played it conservatively for a large chunk of a Glowfly round until I figured out it's got the perfect package of power and ink efficency to just plow far ahead into the stream of smallfries and give your comrades ample time to collect all the eggs that keep collecting in a big pile behind you big big.

Just for future reference, in glowflies the glowfly summoned regular salmonids deliberately have less HP than in a normal round so that any roller can squash them in one hit from the roller. The typical best strategy is to move as slowly as possible with the roller in the direction you want to squash salmonids, because the roller only uses ink proportional to the distance you move, but deals the same amount of damage, and the salmonids just come barreling in to you on their own. This isn't so important for the big swig because it has good ink efficiency anyway, but on the dynamo roller especially, that's how to make it extremely powerful in the rounds.

Oh, I know that. I was saying I could have just steamrolled ahead full speed and done solo laps around Wahoo World because the Big Swig is so good, instead of wasting time slow-rolling while eggs landed in spots still dangerously close to the horde because I tried to be ink-conscious and didn't trust the weapon not to get knocked around and pushed into a bad spot by Goldies like can happen with the less powerful rollers.

If someone disconnects before midway through Wave 3, the whole round should just stop right there.

Literally no point in playing any further at that point

Hell yeah, got a Big Run with 100 eggs exactly. It took all three rounds being high tide to make it happen, and Wave 2 was a Mothership. Pretty lucky. I'm tapping out now, so hopefully it's enough to get that gold statue

Despite my frustrations, I had a great time with Big Run, can't wait for the next one. Wahoo World is a waaaay better map than the actual Salmon Run maps tbh, gonna dread getting dragged back to Spawning Ground even more now

Also killed Cohozuna twice during this thing. I has only beaten him once beforehand, so I'm pretty pleased with that. Shame that both kills only gave bronze scales

Big Run is really close to being good but it needs to ditch the random weapons and it affecting your SR ranking. It feels absolutely terrible when you're on a Mothership wave and only one team member has something good for long range and later losing 20 points due to being dealt a bad hand at wave 1

oh thank god lol, that’s a relief. it was fun!

come on and SLAM
and welcome to the SALM

also on a scale from one to ten how confusing is my in-game username
To pronounce, or to use to identify yourself? I know your Switch profile username, so the first three letters tipped me off.

Today I have discovered my Salmon Run skills increase after 4 vodka+tonics.

Or at least it feels like they do?

I really like playing Big Run! But that's mostly because it's on a stage I'm actually somewhat familiar with.

Though I feel like BR it isn't all that different from the usual SR, except the map, which is too bad really.

I am in general not very good in SR, so I purposefully demoted myself to Overachiever and still lost a few rounds LOL.

I did climb back up to Profeshional tho, but that level makes me sweaty, pretty sure that's at the max of my skill ceiling LOL. My highest record is 78.. 🥲

I really wish people would remember that their specials can get you out of a real pinch before the round is over!!

I am about to fucking lose it with my Salmon Run teammates. I cannot comprehend how these absolute, irredeemable morons make it to VP. Just zero brain cells, zero contribution, zero wins. I've gone from 420 to 390 because my teammates have a combined brain cell count of 1 at most.

"about to"
It's just incredibly frustrating that Nintendo's ranking system is so bad that it results in tons of people being in VP who don't belong there. It's immediately obvious they can't hack it at this level, but the way ranking up works you just have to play for a million hours and you'll get dragged to VP no matter what. Nintendo really needs a way to evaluate SR players besides just "did you win/lose the game" because it's so easy to get carried at the lower ranks.

I bet res/death would be a great indicator

I bet res/death would be a great indicator
I think you'd need a holistic analysis. Res/death is part of it, but sometimes that happens because you're the only one sticking your neck out to get eggs and no one backs you up. Look at

-Boss kills
-Lesser kills
-Res/death
-Average survival time
-Average time to res teammates
-Performance with 2 or more teammates down
-Shot accuracy
-Egg delivery count
-Egg throw count (throwing far away eggs towards but not into the basket)
-Separate checks on all of these in special rounds

This could be combined into a "VP" score for a better idea of how good a player actually is.
