I'd be willing to bet they push out updates to fix/improve things. They were willing to patch 3d all stars despite being a game they were gonna delist/put oop in 5 months after all.

Must...resist...temptation....to....buy....

Seriously though, I think issues generally tend to be exaggerated early doors, so I'll wait and see how this pans out over the course of the next month or so before deciding to dip in.

Which is disappointing if true, which brings back my earlier question if they ran out of time before launch?

That is what I'm kind of thinking. Nintendo needed the expansion pack out before 11/05 for the Animal Crossing DLC so there was a hard deadline to hit.

There's a lot of reasons to complain about this service but I can't believe people are upset that a glitch in oot where you use the deku stick as adult link which crashes the game on real hardware also crashes the Switch version. It's a bit odd cause it doesn't crash on vc versions of the game but cmon, it's like people are just looking to be mad at things now.

There are legitimately some emulation issues with N64 that weren't present in previous iterations of Nintendo's emulator. They don't completely ruin the experience (although OoT in particular looks pretty bad at times), but they're very distracting if you notice them.
Some of its from the resolution going up to 720 fyi

The streams I've seen and my own experience have been great 🤷

NL is streaming currently for example

This stream is the perfect example of why your internet matters. When Alex and Jon do multiplayer with ai they have no issues and the game runs smoothly. When Jon swaps for Zion suddenly everything runs like shit even in just 1v1 vs because Zion has a bad connection.

Can you save progress in Winback since doesn't the game require a game pak for saving? How does it work? Not a NSO customer but was just curious. Is it just save states?

Just save states, dunno if anyone has tried using an actual N64 memory card and some kinda of n64 to usb adapter to test if the emulator can detect a real memory card or not.

Got near the end of SOR2 and died... On normal difficulty. Hard must be brutal. My thumbs got a work out.

Now my N64 controller has charged I'm checking out Mario 64. The text looks so rough as obviously it was designed for CRT. And the frame rate seems a little erratic but maybe it's me: it's a helluva lot faster and twitchier than I remember, though I'm from PAL land and probably remember this in 50hz.

Hmm, okay. I can't recall if by finishing the game if you unlock multiplayer characters from a complete save file or if they unlock gradually as you go through the game anyway. It has been 20 or so years since I last played it so my memory is hazy on that.

If you have the sub, the DLC page on the eShop won't let you buy it. So you should buy it first if that's your plan.

Yes, I think I'll have to wait at least until friday, when the dlc will be ready to preorder, and then after buying it I'll get the expansion pack. Thanks for the answers!

Why not just get the Expansion Pack now and buy the DLC in a year if you decide not to renew and if you still have an interest in owning it?
Son of a bitch, wish I had read this 30 minutes earlier. My wife isn't on the family plan so she won't be able to access 'my' DLC from NSO. She could buy it separately, I guess, but long term it would be better if the purchase were tied to my account.

LOL I was watching Live and dipped before Zion came on

I started playing Zelda.

Oh boy..... It kind of looks really bad. I had such an amazing time with MK64 and Mario Tennis, but the lack of fog really kills OoT specifically.

Started also playing Phantasy Star 4... I think I would really dig it. But man those menus. I can't understand what all of the battle commands are, and it's super confusing(this is my first game in that series). It's a shame.

Give it some time and figure out PS4, when it clicks it's fantastic.

It really makes me think they fucked up the configuration for Ocarina of Time

Because the rest of N64 games i have tried so far look almost perfect.

EDIT: Just created a system wide remap for my M30 and it's soooo much better. It will take some adjusting but fuck me if it isn't worth it.

64 controller sold out again. I feel bad for my brother, he is desperate for one of these.
Geez, I was gonna check the availability early this morning, but then I thought, “Nah, I’ll just wait until lunch”. For all the complaints of being overpriced (which they are), these controllers sure are popular.

So I just went ahead and bought the Genesis controller for the time being, because I am a very stupid and weak-willed individual. I’m not even planning on getting the expansion until around Christmas time, lol.

I’ve had a play around with every game and other than yoshi’s story’s controls being a bit finicky at first and in Mario kart seemingly not being able to drift then drift in the opposite direction occasionally (not recognising the input) I’ve not noticed anything else that’s annoyed me other than those that have been mentioned.

- it is annoying that the transfer pack stuff isn’t in there

- Operation winback deserves more praise for revolutionising the 3D action genre that often gets reserved for the likes of metal gear solid 2 and resident evil 4

- Dr Mario 64 and yoshi are weird!

- sin and punishment seems pretty good, I need to practise more though!

You're playing N64 with the M30!?

I set the M30 so A matches button A, then remapped A to Y, B to B, and L (C button on the M30) to A. Perfect controls for 3 button Mega Drive games. Loved smashing goons in SOR.

If it helps, here is an instruction booklet for Phantasy Star 4. It helps explain some of the menu icons.

And yes, Phantasy Star IV is really good once everything starts clicking.

Bought this during lunch time. Not bad so far. Mario Kart felt natural but I haven't tried anything else.

What if older switch models have worse experiences than newer ones. I'm on a V2 and haven't felt any input lag so far. Perhaps it's cause I only tried Mario Kart .

With that being said, I hope this gets patched so that there is no variance in performance for users.

I see I missed the N64 controller while I was getting my tooth drilled out. The lack of button remapping is my biggest concern that’s keeping me away right now. I know I can do system level remapping, but don’t want to have to constantly be swapping that. I assume there will be some sort of update as there are too many little issues to just leave as is.

Okay, initial datamining time. There are at least 38 N64 games planned for the service.

They're listed alphabetically, so you could try to guess which games fall into the gaps. I'm certain #37 is Majora's Mask and 14-16 are Mario Party 1-3, for example.
Here's my guesses... with blue being the games that are confirmed to be coming later

Probably got some stuff out of order because it's organized with their japanese names on the data, right? So Mystical Ninja would be Ganbare Goemon and so forth. But some are quite easy to predict... shocked with all 3 Mario Party games being among them!

‪I’ve got the Switch Online N64 controller. The rumble feels very close to the original Rumble Pak. Might try it out with some other Switch games like RE4 HD. ‬

It is possible that there may be more than these 38 N64 games, or will that be it once they're all filled out?
Could be. These 38 games are what have been planned. It's possible they could add games beyond the 38 before they finish the first 38. This is more of an tease than a promise.

The problem you will find is that the C buttons are mapped as the D-pad, so you essentially have no Y or X button and sadly like the other NSO controllers you cannot remap in the system settings. I've no doubt Mayflash and 8bitdo will get this running with their dongles as a way around this.

Are you talking about with non N64 app Switch games?

Yeah, sadly the OS reads inputs on the C buttons as the D pad. I agree with you about the rumble. Felt very nostalgic. Shams the Mario 64 version on NSO doesn't have rumble. Still enjoying collecting stars.

Just tried it with Smash Ultimate. Thought it was working great until I realised I couldn’t jump. Doesn’t even let you remap jump to a c-button because like you say it doesn’t recognise it as a button in Smash.

I can’t remember does the 3D All Stars version of Mario 64 have rumble? Will the controller even have the same problem even playing that version of Mario 64?

has anyone else not really noticed any issues while running the games? I've played OoT for about an hour and a half now and having a pretty good time. Honestly before I went to bed last night I thought this was my favorite N64 emulator yet, and was surprised to see the intense blowback this morning.

And I thought all the other games ran well too, though I didn't really care for WinBack lol

btw I'm not saying there aren't issues or things that should be fixed-- just that for me personally the experience has been nice, and I'm curious if anyone else feels this way after playing the games.

Every game that I've played has been fine for me, though I've not played oot yet.

I just realized that there is a Contra and Castlevania game from the stand alone collections on the Genesis app/library. I wonder if that is a one off or if we might see more games from those collections in future NSO updates.

I'm hoping the NES and SNES Castlevania and Contra games make it the app. The Collections have messed up aspect ratios (4:3 mode is not in 4:3) and the scanlines option introduces both a blurring and a color de saturation filter. Double yuck!

Not much outside of OoT with the missing fog and transparency effects which is notícienle because it’s one of my favorite games and have played it a bunch, and while we make fun of fog in old 3D games, it did give it a unique atmosphere.

Now are these games perfect and without some issues? No. Hopefully they will patch it up.

But it’s been a solid experience mostly. But it’s too late now. Eating crackers meme. To the point where you’re starting to see disingenuous posts on twitter either outright providing misinformation or trying to replicate known glitches that would mess the game up.

To me, there's nothing more infuriating than a half-hassled job when the existing, free alternative works just fine.
The fact that mupen64Plus on a homebrewed switch works with none of the issues that the NSO emulator have speaks volumes about the effort behind the offering. The varying input lag is also embarrasing because how the hell does that even happen.

I’d probably swap Tooie for 1080

Totally, usually these lists are their initial planning/licensing plans which can change depending on program success

I think the original SNES datamine was filled completely in terms of quantity, but some games mentioned by name there have yet to be released (I think Mario Paint was among them);

Does the n64 controller pair with pc? Would love to use it there as well if possible.
Yes, they do, as did the earlier controllers including the Pro controller and Joy Con.

I finally have a use for the Ultimate Software of my SN30 Pro 2. Second profile is now used for the N64 app. The original button mapping was driving me crazy, like in Yoshi where on the N64 controller B is above A not like on modern controllers.

I wonder if they had different teams work on different games considering how unique Zelda's issues are.

From what I gathered from my rather read on the situation, it sounds like Ocarina of Time on N64 was built in such a way that it utilized the graphical quirks of the N64 to improve the look of the game and hide blemishes. When those quirks are removed or made clearer, then the graphics of OoT may begin to break down. For example, the it seems like the fog was blended with the textures (plus this all originally being built for CRTVs), to give OoT it's original look. But if the fog is removed, you're left with just the original textures which don't look as great on their own.
