Let me guess, you had Xenoblade running in the background and when your co-workers asked what those sound effects, you try to claim it was something less embarrassing like erotic films but it was too late, your co-workers already realized that you were a gamer. We've all been there.
Well if they knew who I was related to…imagine if someone heard Xenoblade incessant talking on a zoom call? I would have to quit.

What did you do? I am always paranoid about that, haha. I am sure it was pretty innocuous, whatever you left the mic on for.

I actually had a parenting calmness lapse since the meeting is super early for me (so aligns with getting everyone ready/to school) but it made it seem like I was telling my federal partners to shut up while they were talking. Easy enough to apologize for but just not the best look lol.

Okay seriously though, come on in. I was legitimately freaking out all morning over that animation, I wanna hear what you think. 😅
It was amazing! I watched almost all the sonic animated shows and movies as a kid. This animation reminded me of those times. I would love for them to make a show in this animation's style. Also chao are adorable!

Yeah, don't worry at all. People will forget about something like that.

I'm not sure if I understand the Warp Zone section of the boards... when making threads specifically about old games we need to post there or is just an automatic filter to group the subjects there? Because, of how the 'retro' discussion is so up to interpretation, I don't know how old the game needs to be to fall on that category.
You can read the guidelines here.
  • Classic/Retro gaming threads can be posted at either Treehouse or the Warp Zone.
  • If a Classic/Retro gaming thread remains inactive at Treehouse for over a month, it will be moved over to the Warp Zone for better discoverability.

It's particularly embarrassing for you because you're a senior producer at Nintendo. Now everyone of your co-workers knows that you actually play games which isn't something game devs are supposed to do.

So um when are Nin

I'm gonna devise a list of games to try some of these new methods to help my hand on for now to take it easy. They actually want me to try play games with this , just slowly

Can't believe the most important event of the next few years is happening in just 6 days.

Oh wait isn't that also election day in the US?
At least we'll have fun sales numbers to pore over while the US democracy convulses in its death bed

Oh there still will be.
"Look at how big we won in X, Y and Z, so you mean to tell me that we didn't win in A, B and C also? Fraud!"
It's like in sportsball. If the next team you play won against the last team they played 2-0, but you beat the same team 4-1 earlier in the season, you've got an automatic win coming your way.

I thought the Switch Game Vouchers allowed you to buy ANY 60€ game, so I just bought those in order to buy Harvestella and now I feel like an idiot lol

Hey, it’s the Metroid Prime anniversary this month, that’s totally when we get the remake announced! I hope Samus pays the $$$ for that blue tick for the Tweet

Yessss the return of the Chao (and Tikal!!) really caught me off guard. And I was not expecting that much of a fight scene. I know we're supposed to be ooh'ing and aah'ing over Sonic Prime but I'd genuinely rather have Tyson lead a 2D animated series similar to this.

heheheheh

Things are trending a certain way, but I bet there won’t be complaints about election integrity if those trends hold…
oof
also lol

I mean that's what happened in 2020 already. And when asked if they wanted to investigate the states where they won they said "of course not!"

Blatant as hellll

So I missed the dev engine talk earlier but uhhh

Can anyone recommend an engine that's good for 2D platformers? Especially for someone with very little programming experience and a mostly visual-based brain..? 👀

You can find Unreal Engine Blueprints tutorials on YouTube for that type of game

For visual coding in general I'd recommend unreal. You can make really any genre of game easily enough in unreal, I did a fun 2D platformer tutorial on it once.

But in terms of coding for those with a visual brain I do think blueprints are the best system out there. Not to mention there's tons of documentation on it, compared to some of the lesser known engines.

I personally think Unity is easier to use for beginners.

Rayman is the Donkey Kong of Ubisoft. Started its own franchise and then usurped by an adversary. Had a decent 2D platform revival a decade ago but is now relegated to being a spinoff side character. Donkey Kong was the big DLC for the first Mario + Rabbids game and guess who is the big DLC in the sequel?

Alright, y’all. I’ve decided on a list of games I want your opinion that would be okay for me to try out. My physical therapist gave me some things to try with when playing games until I start the full therapy Tuesday so I wanted to find some games that I thought weren’t all that intensive.

Steam deck

Halo wars
Sonic sega all star racing
Forza horizon 4
Oblivion
Lego Indiana Jones

Switch

Fire emblem three houses: I have a route to finish as do the ashen wolves dlc
Mario kart 8
Mario party 2
Spyro
Pilotwings

Requested that Steam delete my account. I'm just spending too much money on games that I literally never play and honestly don't even really want. I just don't have the self control for so many games and so many sales lol.

One step closer to only owning one platform.

Sounds very stupid to me to delete an account.

If the other options seem a bit daunting, I'll suggest GB Studio again, it's a lot simpler and more visual than most of the more generalist engines (and they have visual scripting and don't require knowing how to code) so you'll probably have an easier time getting something moving, and you can move on to more complicated later if you want to expand your horizons.

godot is great for 2D or 3D and is open source
Yeah I'll second this also, my experience with Godot was way way better than with Unity, it's not even close. The games run better, too, because it has less overhead gunk than Unity does (and isn't going to be bogged down by ads anytime soon).

Huh, physical Pokemon double pack (NA) appearing as "unavailable" on Amazon. Either they sold out or they never got them.

Just remembered that besides Tactics Ogre next Friday, I also meant to pick up Pentiment on Xbox just four days later. Too many games, indeed.

While I see the resemblance, I don't think that's an entirely fair comparison. It's much more unique than that. Mario was still the star of the arcade DK and later had a collection of highly iconic and beloved titles that made Nintendo a household name. It wasn't until the 90's DK as a franchise was truly born.

Rabbids, on the other hand, didn't come into the picture much later. By then Rayman already had a legacy that's more comparible to Mario. He jump started the company, and headline a collection of highly beloved and successful games, much like Mario. I get the impression most of Rabbids' success comes from the likes of Rayman and Mario games.

Despite having less games than the Rabbids, Rayman is still a much bigger franchise. And those numbers will only go up with Rayman now in M+R SoH. The fact you see people right now just finding out and are upset Rayman isn't going to play along with Mario shows you people treat Rayman as a much bigger deal. Not to detach from the people who are still excited of course. I just don't buy the notion Rabbids have usurped Rayman.

Been thinking about Waluigi all day, and how much we need a Waluigi game series.

More or less every major Nintendo mascot has their series: Mario with everything and everyone, Wario with Wario Ware, now with Get It Together, and Luigi has 3 Mansion games, and with Woolly World, Tropical Freeze and Forgotten Land, both Kirby, Donkey Kong and Yoshi has had their big, defining moments.

Poor purple guy, give him a game already!
