Guess I'm at a point in my life where I don't have the patience anymore to get good at competetive multiplayer games.
Dropping the PvP. Gonna concentrate on Salmon Run.

Just downloaded it with a sweet coupon I had left. Feels good to be back!

I can't take a break with so many games this year by Nintendo. What a streak.

Being able to rank up by earning medals is a godsend.

Btw I'm in love with the wavebreaker, there's so much versatility with it.
-You can use it offensive or defensive
-It can be a distraction or a hidden trap
-Instant ink refill
-It provides a shield I kid you not

I've been playing almost non-stop since Thursday. Lots of communication errors and actual freezes. I'm absolutely loving the game and all the new options, QoL and music, but it feels unpolished. It really needed a bit more development time.
Won't try ranked until I'm comfortable enough with the new physics/controls and the feel of the game, but turf wars in S3 are definitely faster and way more chaotic than S2. And then you add the lag :\
In S2, if I get splatted, I know why and how, I know what happened. Sometimes in S3 is hard to read what's going on and it happens so quickly (yet so delayed) that I don't know what went wrong. Also, I don't know if the Tacticooler speed buff is THAT good or if it's lag, but sometimes I see people practically just sliding at me.

This was my first Splatoon 3 match:

Anybody else ready to break up with the Jet Squelcher? I recall we had lots of fans from Splatoon 2 here. Angle Shooter isn't doing it for me. And the Ink Vac is an occasional GG button in Splat Zones, akin to Sting Ray in Tower Control of yore, but more often than not it feels overwhelmingly low impact in the barely coordinated team fights of random ranked matches.

Ima Hydra main now!
I'm not ready to break up yet, but I'm not loving the Angle Shooter. I miss the Burst Bomb :(
But I am falling even more in love with the Splattershot Pro (loving the Crab, which for me is the closest thing to the Sting Ray in this game).
I'm also finding the Dualie Squelchers incredibly fun to use again.
Point Sensor >>>>> Angle Shooter. Most of the time its trajectory isn't what I planned/expected.

It's exactly the same as it was in 2 actually. The parameters are exactly the same, it has been datamined.

That said if you never played 2 much and just remember how the carbon was in 1, yes, it got butchered compared to that and used to be even worse back when 2 first came out.
Do you have a link to the leaked S3 data?

Wait... you're saying the [friendly] wave refills your tank it hits you? Cause I didn't notice this o_O

A few questions:

1) Where is Agent 4?
2) Is Off the Hook doing regular [battle] songs? Cause I could swear the vocals of some of the new songs are Pearl and Marina (and those songs are bangers).
3) Is there really no way to tell the levels of the people you're playing with or am I missing something in the UI? ("Times splatted are back, but we took your team/enemies levels")
4) Is there a way to earn catalog points faster? Cause I'm not sure I'll be level 100 by the time the new catalog releases :(
5) I've seen a few of my friends with "Drop-ins OK" next to their names. If I'm playing solo turf wars, do I appear with "Drop-ins OK" as well and they can see me and join or do I have to create a room or something?

1. Agent 4 lives too far away to commute to Splatsville
2. Yes, they've teamed with a band called Damp Socks.
3. No way to know other players' levels, but since levels are just "how long have you played this game" I don't think it's a big deal. Badges provide a better way of showing off
4. Not that we know of. Perhaps playing during Splatfests/Big Waves will level it up faster.
5. No clue

Funny. After reading people gripe about being saddled with newbie teammates over the past couple days, I had the opposite problem today. Was right in the middle of a prolonged back and forth over a Splatzone when suddenly, one second to the next, I'm 1 v 4 because each and everyone of the X-rank killers in my group decided to flank at the same time.

End result was the same as if everyone but me had died, but the play to get there was much more big brain. Too much big brain.

This is a good time to say I'm also breaking up with the Splattershot Pro, my other day mainstay throughout Splatoon 2. And again it's the Angle Shooter's fault. Squeezer is a better version of what I want out of the Pro, except I gotta get used to the semi-auto fire. And I suck with aiming the Inkzooka. Booyah Bomb is really my comfort level with how low-skill high-impact it is; plus it working as a pseudo-Stingray in Tower Control to wrap up opponent's overtime pushes.

Angle shooter is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. It's probably not the ideal subweapon but like most of the new things in 3, it's weird, surprisingly versatile, and super fun to use. While hard to use, since it does damage and consumes less ink I think Angle Shooter vs Point Sensor should mostly become a matter of preference once we get some experience with it.

Got my email saying my code is ready!

Opened said email and it’s 5 pages of blocks and blocks of html gibberish 😂😂😂

Does anyone here go by Diamond in-game? Those were some good matches we just had if so! Always nice to see a fellow inkbrush user! Can't wait to get some different loadouts with inkbrush as the main.

I dunno how people already have giant lockers with 100 stickers both inside and out and a well organized interior already.

Nintendo really did a disservice the single player component by barely covering it pre-launch and leading many to think it would be a throwaway mode.
The level design and variety are excellent, and it's easily the best campaign in the series.

I feel like they should have done a better job of highlighting this mode, as it's worth the price of admission in and of itself.

I don't think there's much more they could have shown that would have been impactful. What would they show, a couple more levels? They already showed a bunch, showing more wouldn't change anything because people already know what a Splatoon campaign is

The overworld isn't designed in a way that would show well in a preview and they wouldn't want to spoil anything like the bosses or some of the clever gimmick stages.

I need every single person on this site to go to the mailbox and send messages asking Nintendo to nerf the Cohozuna fight

I just want to win once, please

Heavy Splatling in Salmon Run

Solid A-tier weapon if supported by at least one other good painting weapon.

I won my first battle and none since. Last time I had a really good crew and the big fella didn't show up three runs in a row when it was due. But then as soon as it's high tide and I got a group that was just scraping by on Wave 2 and Wave 3 as is the big bastard finally appears...

Dude how many jelly babies did you pummel? Jk have you discerned any strategies for it? In deck building or ingame?

No no I meant when you have your special ready and are low on ink, you can put it down and immediately have full ink again (using a special refills your ink tank)

A fault of the single player is that instead of pushing you to up your game more regularly it keeps challenging elements to the end of a sequence so you have to redo it entirely. I think I did the last part of the final boss at least 4 times because I wasn't careful with the last wave.
So there are plenty of levels that you breeze through and won't even remember.
It'll always surprise me how the splatoon campaigns never push the encounters too much compared to other tps.

It feels so great taking a reverse 3-0 to come out on top of a rank increase series and make it to S. I'm so glad they managed to make Clam Blitz even better than it already was. I'm not sure how I feel about Mahi Mahi clams though, mid is so tight in the first half that it seems like you either get into a total stalemate with no power clams for a while or one team gets down to the 30s with their first push. My hunch is that the water should lower a little earlier than when a team hits 50 or should lower automatically halfway through the match.

Does that start happening from a certain rank onward? Just tried a few ranked matches and when losing didn't progress, despite getting a few gold medals.
Below A+ as long as you win 1 match of each series you should pretty much always be able to make progress when playing in Anarchy Series. Beginning in A+ when the admission price increases to 120p per series you can tread water going 1-3 if you play well but will need to go at least 2-3 to make progress. If you're playing in Open you always lose 2p per loss but since you gain 8p per win you will make progress as long as you're winning more than 1 out every 5 matches.

I don't know the fine print, but it might not work in open? I played series in which it did work

Sounds like I should try Series, thanks! Started with Open because I wanted to get a feel for the game modes, but might just as well do Series as I always get a few medals.

I've been playing for a couple of days by myself and I really liked it, even though shooters are not my thing. Then, two days ago, I finally got to play with my other 3 friends while speaking through discord and had an absolute blast. We normally play Monster Hunter together, but this is way better. Oh my god.

I know the Direct is probably what's on everyone's minds right now, but I'm going on a long break soon after the Direct finishes so I thought I'd post my Splatoon 3 thoughts now:

Overall: This game fuckin' slaps... but damn there are some problems.

Pros:
  • The singleplayer was amazing. It was basically an easier, more fleshed out version of Octo Expansion. The setpieces were incredible and I loved seeing Nintendo do some more genuine lore and storytelling for the world - even if a lot of it is inherently absurdist.
  • The music all around is just incredible. Put it on Spotify, Nintendo. Now.
  • I love that this is one of the most 'crisp'-looking games on the Switch
  • Whilst the grind is still there, I think coming in at the beginning - and having the boost that comes from getting those campaign tickets - is really helping me want to go for it more.
  • Overall the multiplayer is just as fun as always, and I finally feel like I'm getting better at it. Sloshers are my jam, but I'm also getting more of a hang with Splattershots and Blasters and such.
  • The simple addition of throwing eggs in Salmon Run has made me want to play it so, so much more. Genuinely, it's a game-changer.
  • Lockers are finnicky but they scratch a "customise something with a bunch of shit you collect," itch that I didn't know I had
  • The card game is hard as fuck but it's more compelling than I thought it'd be

Cons:
  • The connection issues and tick-rate stuff is, genuinely, unforgiveable at this point. The game's making bajillions so, for there to be so many instances of "you get killed five minutes after the other person is already dead," is just not good at all.
  • This is probably not true, but the SBMM feels overly-zealous to me. It feels as if it's intentionally forcing me to lose a bunch of games before I can win a few. However this is just a feeling, and will likely get better as time goes on.
  • Whilst the game is chock-full of content, the lack of a big "new" thing still hurts.
  • I still think the game looks too similar in aesthetics to its predecessors; it doesn't feel like there's a "chaos," feeling to anything apart from the tutorial area

So yeah, I'm really digging it. I'll likely be playing a lot more than I did Splatoon 2, and I look forward to all the updates and splatfests to come :D

If any of ya'll want to add me to play some games my Friend Code is:

Man, Pauline and Diddy would totally get me to buy Strikers if, you know, I heard even slightly better things about the online...

Edit: This was totally a meta-joke about Plum's Direct line, and not me posting in the wrong tab. Not at all.

First official Splatfest in two weeks

What would you bring to a deserted island?
Shiver: Gear
Frye: Grub
Big Man: Games

48 hours

Gear, and it isn't even a question. Big Man continues being a slacker

I like how the three items are like "I want to live long term", "I want to live short term" and "YOLO!"

To be fair, apparently in Japan this is more referring to islands you visit for a day that are deserted. Like thing the Star islands in Kingdom Hearts 1. Sora, Riku and Kairi had out there for the day but have actual homes to go to.

...I'd still choose gear though...

Team gear too.

Nice to see that there is a splatfest so soon.

I wanted to play last night for 30 minutes before bed: 7 matches, 5 disconnects/communication errors, even in Salmon Run :\
And my internet is fine, I'm also using a wired connection. It's really frustrating. I really can't wait for that first (second?) update.

Do exp. tickets also give extra points for catalog?

My first post on this forum is going to me agreeing that I had to break up with Jet. I will play it for fun in Open battles but thats it. I moved to my second main of Heavy Splattling and will probaly test Hydra when i unlock it. Both Angle Shooter and Ink Vac needs buffs imo. Inc Vac never feels like a special weapon to me, it always feel like a mdeiocre staller that has a high chance of getting you killed even when you used it in a safe spot. Overall, Jet Squelcher feels like I am playing without a Sub or Special and that bites.

How quick is it to get into a game in Splatoon 3?

I have two kids less than a year old so my time is very limited. Splatoon 2 seemed to take forever sometimes.

It's very quick. No talking after it loads and you can just skip directly to the lobby.
