I’m expecting the same score as 2 or lower since it doesn’t change much from it.

Octo Expansion not even breaking the 85 barrier makes me reconsider where the ceiling for a Splatoon game is. Splatoon getting a 81 and Splatoon 2 capping out as 83 could be explained by reviewers docking points for launch state content, time-gated online modes, no voice chat and similiarly unpopular design decisions, but Octo falling right between the two scores indicates the story campaign doesn't contribute many points as long as it's there and okay enough.

84 Metacritic right now, so probably an 81 overall! Decent scores but lines such as: " it's almost easy to forget that it doesn't bring much new to the table. Almost. ...", from GameXplain of all places probably will not do much to alleviate peoples concerns about the game.

Sounds very good. Still not decided when/if I'm buying - I've got a lot of Xenoblade 3 still to go, more Sunbreak to play, and the final part of the remastered Mass Effect trilogy.

But this is tempting.

Oh wow Storymode is sounding to be really great. I‘m really hyped now.

I mean, do you expect people to just lie and say they expect a score they don't expect? I do agree 75 is definitely too low, and the same probably goes for any under 80 prediction. However, we've all seen the same game and (likely) played the game demo, and are making our predictions based on those (and what we think reviewers are gonna think).
Oh no, of course not. Just didn't understand some folks' reasoning.

Some of the Unscored reviews seem like they'd definitely knock things down one or two points if they were scored.

I'm really not surprised with this result. It's a great game that improves upon its predecessors in many ways... but it doesn't do much else. I'm definitely still very much looking forward to it on Friday - especially the campaign with some more of the impressions coming out - but I can't help but feel it could have been so much more.

Or there's the campaign that, having given me some eight or more hours of hard-edged challenge, is worth the price of entry alone. Single-player campaigns aren't new to Splatoon - the first games' was essentially its tutorial, while the second fleshed it out a bit further until the Octo Expansion delivered a fully-fledged single-player experience as a paid download. Splatoon 3's campaign is as fulsome (and as frustratingly tough in parts) as the Octo Expansion, which if you've played it - or heard the rapturous response it got from players - you'll know is a very good thing indeed.
From the Eurogamer review, that's all I needed to hear.

Pretty much the score I expected, really excited to jump into the singleplayer this weekend.

Huh, story mode sounds better now than in the previews. Wonder what the expansion could bring?
The previews only got to play a couple levels without any context so it's not too surprising that things heavily turned around with the full game.

Dexerto review was fixed btw, Opencritic now shows an 84.

I do really like that the singleplayer has more of a concrete progression system and such with its overworld. 2's Weapon Upgrades were ridiculously stingy to the point that they barely affected a first-time playthrough, so this really seems like a good improvement.

This is all I need as I know what I’m getting with the multiplayer and having 24 hour salmon run availability was already enough on the multiplayer side for me. Just needed more Octo expansion and less Splatoon 2 base single player for this games story mode.

Yeah, sounds like the campaign is pretty similar to Octo Expansion in terms of quality, which is great. Even though I think Octo Expansion is just good, nothing more, it’s still a step up over the previous campaigns, so knowing we’re getting similar quality is very nice.

At this rate Splatoon 9 will finally deliver us to the prestigious 90 MC score!

Great scores for this game and I’m eagerly awaiting Friday! Gonna walk out of Target with hopefully 2 copies (one for me and one for my fiancé), the new pro controller, and maybe the amiibo set!

I know it’s different writers but the tonal whiplash from NintendoLife giving it a 9/10 after the weird passive-aggressive “iterative reused assets sequel” vibes from some of their preview coverage is just a sight to behold

That's a YASS from me.
Man I was going to put Splat3 on the birthday wishlist for later in the month but I don’t know if I can wait that long 😅

Not sure why it would drop a full three points, Nintendo games generally don’t drop many points after the initial wave of reviews outside of the sports titles.

Pretty much what I expected. It's nothing new but it's more Splatoon and if that's your jam go for it.

"Splatoon 3’s single-player campaign takes all the highs of Splatoon 2’s creative Octo Expansion missions and places them in a satisfying hub world where freedom of choice lets you get as much as you want out of your playthrough — confident that you’ll be back for more. Even when it relies heavily on familiar enemies, smart level design and objectives, and bosses brimming with personality keep things fresh for the whole ride."

It's reviewing like a splatoon game
Who would have guessed.
The 90 curse lives on
Btw the game is looking great.

By Splatoon 6, including DLC, we may finally get a 90 MC Splatoon game.

Damn... can we please stop it with the misinformation about NintendoLife's coverage of this game? Please point towards their "weird passive-aggressive vibes," because, as someone who's watched all their coverage from the game, I literally never got those vibes at all. That is unless you think anything less than extreme excitement and complete adoration is "passive-aggressive," or something lol

EDIT: Sorry if I'm being a bit aggressive here; it's just that this kind of misinformation and judgement of "vibes," can often lead to certain sites and actual people getting a needlessly-negative reputation as a whole.

Get hyped, everyone. New "critical review that we'll be able to shit on until the end of time, and use as an example of a mass anti-Nintendo bias from the games media," just dropped:

Splatoon 3's existence feels like a corporate decision, meant to fill a release calendar, as opposed to being driven by good design ideas. I rarely find myself thinking that about a Nintendo game, but Splatoon 3 is that disappointing.
