News Nintendo Switch OLED Model Splatoon 3 Edition announced, releasing August 26th, Splatoon 3 Pro Controller and Case coming September 9th

I'm really confused tbh. Why would they only run a Partner Showcase in June, when there is no hardware announcement to include with the First Party announcements? It doesn't make any sense to me at all.
Um, there might be no more first party reveals to be released this year? They can always focus on Q1 2023 releases in the September Direct. For Splatoon and Pokémon, they are sure to get their own Directs.

That might be true, but we still need information regarding the next Mario Kart Cups, Strikers Battle League DLC and NSO N64 releases. I guess those will be only Twitter updates.

I want those Joy-Cons so bad. They’re beautiful. The whole console is great looking, IMO; one of the best SE’s I’ve seen in a while.
It would be great to be able to get those separately! Love the whole unit's look, but the joycons in particular are great looking. Maybe we'll get ultra lucky since the console part is releasing before the game? (Doubt it, haha, but I want to dream!)

I wonder what happens when you attach the joycons in the Switch in the controller configuration screen; will it show the same gradient like the irl joycons do, or just a solid greenish/yellow and blueish/purple?

...I honestly didn't realize that there were color differences for the joycons on that screen until you posted this! Now I REALLY hope they do have the gradient on there! :ROFLMAO:

I want those joy-con... I NEED THOSE JOY-CON!

Wait till you connect a controller to the system in portable mode and notice that those little notch animations are also in the colour of the controllers!

Oh that's nothing; if you mod your joycons, there's a third party software program that can also alter the hexadecimal codes so your Switch (and games that display joycon colours like Pokemon Sw/Sh for the in-game Switch in your room) can match the new shells you put on

Kotaku link with the walkthrough

If a future Switch firmware does make that gradient visible, then maybe it applies to other controllers as well. I modded a pro controller with this chameleon green/purple reflective handles and I'd love to make the edit so that they can be correctly identified on the Switch haha

You all are blowing my freaking mind!! :ROFLMAO: Maybe we don't need a Switch hardware upgrade yet because I still haven't learned all it does already, haha! :ROFLMAO:

Not AS cool and slick as Nintendo's stuff, but Hori is also side-releasing some things to go along with Splatoon 3 which is kind of neat if you haven't seen it:

I'm going to have to get this. I see the OLED at my local Target and I always pass it up because I don't play handheld that much, but this one is going to make me fold.

I need those joycons so bad. doesn't seem like the ACNH joycons were ever sold separately so not getting up hopes up for these. 😿

Hot take: this special edition OLED for Splatoon 3 is the best looking Switch I've ever seen. Seriously.

Now, on the rumor that called it that also told a more powerful revision was being announced by December, I'm kinda "happy" with that? I mean, I suppose that they're going for a September announced for November/December release, and the game I suppose will launch alongside it is Metroid Prime Remastered. Gives me hope we'll see Switch games looking even better and getting some "impossible ports" possible for those that make the jump, but also that I will keep getting my sweet first party games for years to come(I will be really sure of that if the launch game is Metroid Prime Remastered or even Pokémon S/V, and not some "swan song" vibe like if it was Metroid Prime 4 in late 2023 or even BotW2).

Hope it turns out this way so we all end up really happy, fami!!! Both tech enthusiasts to have a real powerful machine and games running and looking better, also some third parties that wouldn't be possible on base model, while those that can't make the jump will still have sweet Nintendo games to play for a while.

I think those you mentioned are probably gonna be twitter drops. Or maybe they handle a new Direct Mini in July but not a partner showcase. Or a general in late July, for, you know, Metroid Prime Remastered reveal(I don't think that one would be neither a Twitter drop nor a mini material, so either a general direct, or something like Age of Calamity, announcing an announcement, or even a Metroid Direct).
A September Direct still makes a ton of sense, to give a final glimpse of Splatoon 3, and date Bayonetta 3. Zelda with a name and a date would be welcomed too(New Horizons got that at E3). It's also the supposed month of the new model reveal so it'll make sense to have newly announced games on its trailer(like OLED having BotW 2, Splatoon 3 iirc and of course Metroid Dread).
The only thing that makes me believe we'll have something in July is that I don't believe Metroid Prime Remastered would be announced at September for an October-December launch. I think we gotta see it either this month or August.

I might be fooling myself but I kinda still hope Fire Emblem can make this year so I think that one deserves a reveal this month for an October-December launch.

If a future Switch firmware does make that gradient visible,
Said update would also require a controller update, which would also need to be backwards compatible with the current solid color format so as not to break in-game implementations like the Pokemon example you gave.

I don't think they're going to do it just for one special edition, but it would be nice - especially if they're planning more gradients in the future.

You can get the plastic shell parts to transfer the internals of your Joy Con. Quality varies but some are almost genuine quality.

The tool to exchange the colors of a Joy Con only has one color for the buttons and one for the shell. No transitions. The Splatoon 3 set will be shown as blue and yellow.

I really liked the idea with the neutral back of the ACNH Joy Con. That’s back with an even fancier front.

I can’t decide which colors I like best so I was happy the white OLED solved that problem. I just have all black/grey and white Joy Con. Looks great with the Smash Edition Pro Controller as well.

Joy cons look amazing.

Also my only Pro Controller is the Splatoon 2 one. Seems appropriate to get the Splatoon 3 one as my second.

They could always put special handling in the ui for specific new colour codes if they wanted. But I think you are probably right that it won't be a gradient

Not a bad hot take at all, haha! :ROFLMAO: It looks really, really dope! Also excited about the new console as well! People will get to enjoy their sweet new SplatOLED console for plenty of time; I really doubt the new one will upend everything!

I'd love for them to keep updating games and such just to support little things like that! The idea itself is pretty appealing to me, haha! :ROFLMAO: Definitely crazy to do it, but what a touch!

I didn't even know you could buy that sort of thing! Is it a hard process to do this?

Haha, it only makes sense then! It's destiny!

I really hope they're two-toned as well

First time 40 min for each Joy Con. Now after several shell swaps I‘m down to 10 min.

Collected quite some original shells this way:

These are really awesome! You just opened up a new world to me, haha, thanks! :ROFLMAO: It's really cool having these for the mix and match possibilities! Thanks for showing me these!

Anyone what happens here with those special edition Smash joycon? You know, those that literally have a white line across them and nothing else.

Not sure how they appear, but I'm reasonably certain that Joy-Cons are only capable of displaying a single color. No gradients or other detail.

To answer the open question in this thread:
In the system the Splatoon Joy Con are shown as single color blue/yellow Joy Con. However different color compared to the standard blue/yellow set.
