News Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase announced for June 28th

Nice to hear the info about Metroid Prime HD, but I'm starting to think that if a general Direct is not needed now, and the only first party games for the holiday seasson could be announced in a Mini Direct... We shouldn't be expecting a September general Direct, just small shows until a January/February general Direct where they can focus on 2023 big games, like BotW2, Mario 3D, etc.
This is my opinion based on what we know at the moment.
They would still need a September Direct to talk about early 2023, especially if both a new Fire Emblem and BOTW2 are coming out this FY. And BOTW2 needs a big blowout + title reveal + tons of new info, and they wouldn't wait until February to do that. Unless they do something like a BOTW2 Direct this fall. But I would lean toward the usual early September show, focusing on a couple early 2023 titles and third party stuff that'll be shown at TGS the following week.

What else did Grubb say other than Metroid Prime Remastered this year?
Prime 2 and 3 are coming down the pipeline with control upgrades and slight touchups but not the degree of love as Prime 1

Speculated that a July Mini could easily date Bayo 3/reveal Prime 1/cover us until later this year by wrapping up the release schedule, more or less, for 2022

I'd be totally fine with this, but my main question would be... why? If they have a 25-minute third party direct ready for tomorrow, and they're going to do an (at least) 15 minute 1st party Mini in a few weeks or so, why would they not just combine them and do a normal General Direct? Especially since doing a 1st party Mini in July, when the September Direct is likely to be early September, feels very close together. As others have said, maybe new hardware related? Or is Nintendo just being weird for no reason?
Trying to make sense of Nintendo is a foolish effort.

If I had to guess though, Everybody's 1-2 Switch was maybe going to be one of the big anchor games for the June direct... but it's been so savaged behind the scenes that it's thrown off their plans. Stuff like Sonic Frontiers and Tactics Ogre Rebirth still were set to be revealed this month so this weird split direct happened.

New Fire Emblem, Everybody's 1-2 Switch, and Metroid Prime Re(whatever) I can easily see having been the opening, middle, and closing games of a normal direct. If you believe the Goldeneye stuff perhaps there was a last minute legal snafu for that which could have also justified delaying the "1st party" segment out of this upcoming direct.

Or Nintendo may just wanna spice it up and give titles like Sonic Frontiers and Mario + Rabbids 2 more screen time. Who knows with Nintendo.

don't you know? switch is too weak for a ps3 game

Real talk, I legit keep seeing people think the Switch is weaker than the PS3 and 360, constantly. They'll constantly point to ports that had issues as proof or make jokes about how it'll run if they... port... a PS3/360 game.

Was always so aggravating.

Honestly if BotW2 is still "not ready," to show...

What the hell is happening with that game lol

I'm expecting another delay at this point.
There's a big difference between Nintendo not being ready to market the game right now and the game itself not being ready. I meant the former, though perhaps could have phrased it more clearly.

I had to tend to work and missed everything so far. So:

  • Metroid Prime HD holiday game 2022
  • Metroid Prime 2 and 3 are both coming, not as much work put into those games compared to Prime HD, but both should come out before Prime 4
  • Possible 1st-party Mini in July, or smaller announcements here and there throughout July to cover the rest of the year before the September Direct

Do I have that all right?
Correct. Other Nintendo type things were persons is coming according to people in the know but Grubb says he doesn’t have info. So grain of salt. Hopes for a goldeneye but war in Ukraine and Russia themes in game might be too much for Nintendo/Microsoft to want to release right now.

What else did Grubb say other than Metroid Prime Remastered this year?

He said a first party direct could be possible in July just because we need to hear dates for Bayo 3, Metroid Prime Remaster, and Advance Wars. But he was strictly speculating about another Direct in July.

Also, he stated Goldeneye could be at the third party direct.

Didn't he say that Prime 1 is actually finished and Nintendo plans to launch it this year? Was that based on information or speculation? I thought that this was insider information and based on that he thinks that Nintendo will probably reveal it soon so the game will be properly marketed. The part about Metroid releasing this year looks basically a lock, whether or not they will have a FP Direct to announce it remains the question... I agree with him, i think the game will have a reasonable marketing schedule. If anyone was confused about my post, ok, here's the clarification, there were both parts of speculation and insider info in his speech

I'm just trying to be clear, Prime 1 HD releasing this holiday is information - a July first-party Direct is speculation. Yeah, it makes sense. But the difference is he was told about Prime 1 HD. He was not told about a July Direct.

It seems inconsequential until people start raising pitchforks and blaming Grubb for getting their hopes up for a July Direct if one doesn't happen.

True, but I still want to be pessimistic about the game because literally every single other pessimistic prediction has come true so far lol

I'm sure it is going fine. It's just the Zelda team being the Zelda team.

I don't expect it until next holiday now just to keep my expectations at the ground lmao.

It feels definitively weird. If it is only 25 minutes it could have been showed in a general direct. There is something fishy about it.
Nonetheless, third party announcements are fun too. I am cautiously optimistic for 1 or 2 good surprises.

They should maybe find another name for it however. "Partner direct" is the Hastings memory of a dark age. A year-long drought without a good show. I propose "Thirdie world showcase".

Thing is, for most people most third party games on the Switch are either:
  • Late port of games they've probably already played, but with worse graphics and performance
  • Games that would be better-looking, performing, and possibly designed if they were released elsewhere
It's really not too surprising that people are disappointed by a Direct focused on them, even if there's a potential for good news. Of course if you're someone who sees a ton of value in portability then this is gonna be much better; but most don't see it similarly. Especially with the Steam Deck now also filling the "big 3rd parties on a handheld console" niche.
I think if people who dismiss most of not all third party games on Switch are still disappointed 5 years in that's onto them. There's no secret anymore what this device and the software lineup is about.

so Splatoon and Bayonetta in September, Metroid Prime HD in early October, M+R in late October and Pokémon in mid November?

They definitely have set a high bar for themselves and probably because of Elden Ring.

it's obviously more complicated to port stuff over to, even if it's on it's face more powerful than the 360/PS3-generation of consoles. also P5R is optimized for ps4 specifically I believe

they should do the extra work regardless, though

???

They're disappointed because we're getting a 3rd party-focused Direct in the season where we used to get a full E3 Direct. I'm not sure what you're even saying here.

I don't believe there's going to be a mini in July. We went through this in 2020 with the first partner showcase - 'Oh, but rumours are there'll be a real Direct next month!' Also, it makes no sense for them not to have just combined some first party stuff for this Direct if they were going to do that. We're not getting a Full Direct until September.

They can talk about early 2023 games in the January/February Direct. BotW2 could launch on May/June and still be "Spring 2023". And the Fire Emblem game... is it even officialy announced?
I'm not saying we won't get ANY announcements until next year, I'm saying we could get only small shows and Twitter shadowdrops.

What about Zelda WW and TP? Where does it fit in all this?

October-November looking stacked if Rabbids, Prime, Pokemon, and Bayonetta 3 (least likely) all drop in that timeframe.

I'm thinking right now that Atlus might release Persona 5 vanilla on the Switch instead of the Royal version. Some people say "hey, it's Atlus, they're weird, they might release the other two games but not P5R" and i agree with that, but weirdness comes in so many ways lol. I wouldn't be surprised with that

Considering they are pushing the fact that it's a pre-recorded video that they are publishing at a specific time and asking you to turn on notifications, I have to wonder if the whole "multiple Directs dropped throughout the summer" thing is just some dumb company thing some folks have come up with in some dumb company workshop when brainstorming some ideas for increased customer engagement that is measured by such metrics. A Direct that is presented love does get people excited for a while, but they only get a notification for that single live event starting and never return.

If you just drop something people are going to want to see as a normal video, they may subscribe to the notifications, keep them on and then return for other videos too.

There's basically always at least one major title in Q1, and January/February is too late to talk about that

Glio was talking about third party games in general though.

25 minutes is a long time. I'm looking forward to whichever unexpected games are going to be shown, there's been some nice announcements recently.
All I know is that it won't be RDR2.

I've been saying for a while that, if the new Zelda is launching in the first half of 2023 (which, right now, it is), then I don't see why Nintendo would give people more Zelda in relatively close proximity to that (e.g. September to December 2022). The next Zelda is going to be a major event for Nintendo and it will suck up a lot of marketing oxygen; I wonder if that's one reason, with E3 out the window, they're going about things as they are.

Guys, please play Scooby Doo Night of 100 Frights

It's a Metroidvania that is basically if Luigi's Mansion mixed with Crash Bandicoot

Give me sports story date and silksong date. Doubt silksong date will happen because they could have just announced that at the Xbox event

On the bright side, we get to skip the boring stuff! :)

They could, but they're not going to wait until Jan/Feb to talk about games coming out by the end of March. That's way too close. Unless you're saying they could do Twitter announcements and trailers and then do a deeper showing in early 2023, which... maybe? But I really don't see that happening.
